The Washington Marriott Capitol Hill has recently undergone renovations and offers a modern, spacious experience with pleasing staff and amenities. However, ongoing issues persist regarding noise from nearby train tracks, inconsistent signage, and customer service incidents, particularly related to dog policies. Overall, guests report a positive stay, but with significant caveats.
Bartender turned away a customer who was doing work quietly in the lobby all because she had her dog with her. The dog was just laying down and doing nothing to bother people. As a dog person myself this is crazy. I understand if the dog was causing issues but this is not acceptable. I will be canceling my next week booking just to go somewhere else in the are.
The hotel bartender was crazy rude to me! I wanted to buy a few drinks while I got some work done with my dog at the bar, since this is supposedly a dog-friendly hotel. I was the only customer there when they opened for the night. But before I could even place an order, the bartender kicked me out because he was afraid my dog "might bother the other customers". Again, this is in the open lobby of a dog-friendly hotel. Nobody else was there. My dog was doing nothing at all, just sitting on the floor. I don't understand what his deal was, but there's far better service elsewhere.
The building is only 3-4 years old. The surrounding neighborhood is very new with most of the buildings erected recently. Love the hotel, loved the friendliest staff, love the very spacious room, very nicely done with decorations and layout of the room, very modern-day designs. A lot of people complained in the review regarding train noise but I actually enjoyed the background train noise. It was very calming to me. There are no signs anywhere. For example, once you come out of the elevator there should be a sign to say which direction your room is located. But no...you have to guess which way. No signs of any kind in the lobby either, which way is elevator, lounge, bar, restaurants, etc... Besides all that, the most important thing should be the rooms. BUT...the walls of the hotel is very, very, very, very thin. I mean you can hear the conversation in the next room thin, even foot noises on the wooded floor. Sometimes it almost sounded like he was sitting right next to us and they weren't even talking loud. The alarm went off next room in the morning and it was like next to my bed. When they open and close the room door, it echoes so loudly that it feels like they were slamming the door, hard, every time. And oh by the way, the residential side is connected to the hotel. Very confusing if you entered through a wrong door. Like I said before, there are no signs to be found.
Regret booking this Marriott. While the hotel is renovated, nice new rooms and people were nice, this is not a full Marriott. There is no way to have breakfast or lunch. Breakfast is in the lounge which is not great. This is the first Marriott I’ve stayed at with no morning restaurant. It’s a nice hotel but beware that if you’re looking for a full service hotel like most Marriott’s, this is not one of those. I’d like to say it’s a high level Courtyard, but at those, you can get fresh eggs. Not here.
NEVER ACCEPT A ROOM FACING THE EXTERIOR About as “mid” of a hotel you could ever get. Definitely tries to be high end, and definitely new so you get that new car smell, but all the little things are missing. No market for convenience items, windows don’t even remotely block out the sound of Union Station trains next door, the M Club is a few coolers of free soda and free Chex mix. rooftop and lobby “restaurants” can barely call themselves that. And did I mention the trains? Whoever thought it was a good idea to build a Marriott right next to DC’s largest train yard without proper sound proofing needs to be fired. Oh and did I mention… trains all night
I have been working here in DC for the longest and down the street. And have always parked here. The man in the picture / who works in the morning of 12/22/25 inside the building tells me where I’m parking it’s going to get towed . I told that man I’ve been parking here for months and sometimes beyond the sign and I’ve never got towed. In my mind I said maybe he is the one calling the tow company’s. You have no right to put the sign beyond the parking sign that’s for street parking . My car was able to fit there and the only thing that went beyond the sign was the back of my truck . That sign for the hotel is suppose to remain behind the sign . The hotel doesn’t own that street. I come down this way everyday . Never has the sign been out that far . You guys need to train that man on where the sign is suppose to be put and stop putting signs where the hotel doesn’t own ! Or else I will take it to higher authority.
We stayed at the Washington Marriott Capitol Hill during the first week of September and loved it so much that we’ve already booked another stay for mid-November! From the moment we entered, we were impressed. The check-in staff were extremely polite, professional, and genuinely welcoming. They even offered us a complimentary late checkout at 2 PM — something we’ve never experienced before (and trust me, we travel often!). The hotel has been recently renovated and feels fresh, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The rooms are spacious, chic, and very functional — everything you’d expect from a top-tier Marriott. The rooftop restaurant and bar are beautiful, offering great city views, delicious food, and a wide selection of drinks. Downstairs, there’s a convenient Spirits & Wine store and Ted’s Bulletin, which made grabbing breakfast and coffee super easy. Parking is available in the garage next door (not affiliated with the hotel) for around $40 per night. The train station is just behind the property — we did notice some reviews mention train noise, but we didn’t experience any issues. Our room faced the interior courtyard, which was very quiet and relaxing. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The service, style, and location make it a perfect choice for both business and leisure. We HIGHLY recommend it and will absolutely be returning!
We couldn't have found a better hotel for its value and proximity to the National Mall! While we were initially hesitant on selecting the Marriott due to past reviews regarding noisy disturbances, we were lucky to be placed in a room facing the peaceful courtyard. It was (a little too) quiet, beautifully furnished, and more than comfortable. The front desk and hotel cleaning staff were friendly and attentive. The expansive fitness center and complimentary water were a huge plus too! The hotel is conveniently located near the Metro, grocery stores, food spots, and Capitol Hill. We will definitely choose this hotel again next time we're in the area.
The rooftop experience was great! If you’re sensitive to noise, don’t pick the odd numbers. The train didn’t bother us at all but I can see how it would someone with noise sensitivities. Uma and Tiffany at the front desk were exceptional. We had one small issue that was tended to quickly. Very clean! Two things that prevented me from giving 5-stars…..the water pressure in the shower was mediocre at best. Really not much pressure at all and you had to wait about 10-15 minutes before you could flush the commode after someone used it. Other than that, everything else was amazing! The gym was off the chain awesome!
Had to stay here for a night for business… Checking in was great, very friendly, professional and Tiffany hit all the marks explaining the property and amenities. Dropping the vehicle off with the valet was easy and quick too. My room was great… it was large and had a separate living room from the bedroom. It was nicely setup and clean too. The bed was comfy. The room was right next to the train yard and that was really loud, so this room came equipped with a sealed pack of new ear buds and a sleep/white noise machine. The property looks like it was recently renovated, as it’s beautifully decorated and looks really new. The room had two large windows and each had electronic shades, which was really nice. All I had to do was press a button and they closed and they were darkening too! The room was a suite, so it had a separate living room and there was a large TV in each room. The TVs offered steaming services, including Pluto, which I love. Overall, a really nice property that’s nicely managed. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it!
