First let me start by saying there are numerous hidden fees. when it says $100 deposit it means per night. In addition to that there is a $40 resort fee per night. For Valet its 61 per night plus a garage tax of $11. Do not except any money back from this hotel. The rooms are subpar. the decor looks nice on the outside but when you start looking around its actually pretty ghetto. the toilet doesnt flush unless you hold it. the sinks fill up with water. the wager spiget in the shower was almsot broken off. the room they put us in smell rancid like strong mold so we had to change rooms. the rooms were hot and the bed was filthy and when you think they are doing room service they are not switching your sheets they are just making the bed. The hotel in my opinion is over priced, dirty and lazy. my husband and i travel alot and this made it to our never book list!!! BEWARE.

The location is great, right near DuPont Circle. The room are spacious indeed. It has a cute little gym too with towels and free water. The room we had was dated. The A/C wasn't working so they brought an employee FAN to keep us cooler because the engineer couldn't figure out the problem, and mind you, it was hot as hell because it was mid summer in D.C. The breakfast, meh, don't este waste your time. The service, meh, they are very nice people but I don't think they were too competent. My roommate had a BIG BOX sent from an online retailer to the room, and the staff insisted the box hadn't arrived. Come to find out that they misplaced the box, and since the whole thing is/ was under renovation, it was a big mess finding the massive box. How do you lose track of that? Not sure, but we had spoken with the front desk stating that a big box was coming and to let us know, but that also didn't happen. The beds aren't the most comfortable either, you have to find a good support spot type thing. Not impressed y-all. Not impressed.

In town for a conference. Decent room. Terrible view. Comfy bed. Great service but I never need much besides checking in. Decent location from most things. Good area to explore. Lots or nearby restaurants. Western Market is a food hall about 20 minutes (walking) away.

Great upscale hotel right by Dupont Circle. The rooms are spacious, nicely appointed and well laid-out. The smart TVs are huge and very nice quality. Great beds and the best part of the rooms is definitely the jacuzzi if you can snag one of the "spa" rooms. The Riggsby is a wonderful addition to this Sonesta and feels like a natural fit. The food is great and the design/vibes of the restaurant are top-notch. Honestly, all Royal Sonestas should have one. Upon check-in, our initial room had a broken jet in the jacuzzi and the sink was very slow to drain but the front desk was quick to move us into a very similar, albeit slightly larger room where everything was great once I brought it to their attention and offered a slightly later check-out as well for the inconvenience. Valet parking is offered but if you would prefer to self-park there's a garage directly across the street with in/out that the doorman was nice enough to tell me about when he very easily could've just made us valet park which I appreciated. All the staff were friendly and helpful as you'd expect at any Royal Sonesta. I'll be back!

It was close to everything and the metro location was very convenient and helped reduce walking a ton. Everything was clean/orderly and the staff was very friendly. I recommend staying on a higher floor if you want a more quiet place. I will definitely stay here again!

Very clean and comfortable room, can control the AC if it gets too hot! LOVED the bathroom, very spacious with dim lighting and a makeup mirror. Soap smelled GREAT. Definitely recommend doing the valet parking ($61), all other parking options we found weren’t as good.

I've stayed at The Royal Sonesta in Dupont Circle twice before with my family, so when I was planning an end-of-school-year trip for my son and 7 of this best friends to go to DC, it was a no-brainer to choose this hotel we've always had a good time at. The trip almost started going off the rails before it started when I called the hotel to ask if we could get connecting rooms. The person I spoke with was at the central reservations call center. He said he couldn't do that for me (which was fine!) and added a note to request rooms on the same floor. A few minutes later, I got an email indicating my room rate went up by $40 per room! I tried calling the hotel repeatedly, only to get automatically transferred to the call center, where they said there was nothing they could do to fix the issue and they were not able to transfer me directly to the hotel front desk where they could fix it. I was at the point of cancelling my reservations and taking my business elsewhere when I decided to give it one last ditch effort and reached out to an employee I found on LinkedIn. I really hate doing things like this, but I was just so frustrated with the inability to talk to a human who could fix the issue. Fortunately, she forwarded my message to one of her colleagues who called me right away and assured me I would get the original rate that I booked the reservation at. So thank you Edith for making my day and restoring my hope in Royal Sonesta. Both Edith and her colleague reassured me that our group would be taken care of during the weekend; thank you so much for fixing the issue with the reservation and demonstrating a level of empathy that is so often lacking in our world today. I'm looking forward to this stay and future stays at Sonesta hotels.

I’m giving this place 3 stars because, at best, this is a 3 star hotel. The staff is very friendly but the dated rooms, state of hotel (which seems to be getting a lobby facelift at least), amenities (or lack thereof) offered, and overall value would equate to a dated holiday inn. Besides a 70/night valet (we did not book a car with the hotel) and a very basic gym( no scale small) there were 0 available amenities. Room service closes at 9:30pm in D.C. maybe it’s that way in DC but I’ve never stayed at a 4 star hotel with these kinds of prices without available room service (or any amenities whatsoever) available past 10 pm. We did stay for the last week of the cherry blossom festival so maybe we just paid a crazy premium and the prices are usually lower(for what you get they should be) The onsite restaurant is in a conference room and is not an actual restaurant. Moldy spots in the grout, dusty light fixtures, torn couches, bathrooms not being mainted (we had to scrub the tub down to use it and scrub the cold water faucet to get enough grime off to turn the actual faucet) old dated furniture, and old grimy looking throw pillows and blankets. These things just don’t add up to a 4 star hotel for me and my expectations. Pros were friendly staff, huge (albeit dated and dusty) suite, easy walking distance to metro and some restaurants available on the street- also enjoyed the elevator being locked so not just anyone could enter. All in all would I stay again for the price? Absolutely not. If the price were reflective of a 3 star hotel given that is what the hotel offers it’s a possibility. If you’re expecting a 4 star hotel this place will leave you considerably wanting.

Initially, I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews, but after staying there for two nights, I felt many of those reviews were unfair. The hotel is decent. The building is a bit older and the ramp definitely needs updating, and I hope they eventually switch the hallways and floors to wood like more modern hotels. But overall, the place was clean and well-maintained. The housekeeping staff were absolutely outstanding—amazing, respectful, and always offering water, coffee, and anything else you might need. The bed was very comfortable. The only confusing part for me was the TV; the system didn’t seem very reliable and there was no guide in the room to help you figure it out. My check-in experience, however, wasn’t great. I arrived around midnight, and the front desk staff member came across as unfriendly, even a bit arrogant and dismissive. On the positive side, the restaurant was exceptional—honestly one of the best I’ve ever been to, with extremely reasonable prices. At one point, I tipped 100% because the service was that good. The only thing that really confused me was the “destination fee.” I booked through a third party and paid everything upfront, but upon checkout they added $35 per night as a destination fee. That felt strange to me. Other than that, it’s a decent hotel with excellent housekeeping and a fantastic restaurant.
