This historic Embassy Row hotel offers a luxurious, well-located retreat in D.C. with exceptional, personalized service and thoughtful amenities, but guests should be aware that the property is currently undergoing major renovations which have significantly disrupted stays.
IMPORTANT: This hotel is undergoing major renovation and shouldn’t be open to guests. Drilling starts at 7:30am and continues all day—no way to sleep or relax. We booked through an Expedia partner with no mention of construction; we never would have booked otherwise. Note: Front desk staff were professional and empathetic, moving us from a lower to higher floor, but the noise and vibrating walls were unbearable on both. This was our end-of-year vacation to rest. We couldn’t.
A wonderful hotel that was so kind and accommodating. They made a huge fuss of my daughter who was celebrating her 19th birthday and made us feel like treasured guests. My only complaint would be the ice machine outside our door but otherwise a wonderful experience with lovely, friendly staff.
I was very weary from travel when I first stepped into The VEN on Embassy Row but I was made quite happy as Wanda helped me with my luggage to the lobby and offered me beverages while I waited for my room to be ready. Once it was ready it was worth the wait and was also connected by the very fun and amazing Ellen at the front desk. She was so fun and I loved being part of the VEN family while staying here. This is a special property with calming lobby, great bar staff and this interesting thing they do with Books. When you stay in your room here you are given a book and a book mark to read while you are here for your stay and you are able to trade it in for another one with a fun person like Ellen at the desk or actually choose a second one to read. Then upon check out we were offered Friend ship bracelets which I wish cherish. At this property there is a rooftop and great pool a very wonderful tea shop and a very fun staff who I will miss. We cannot wait to return this was a wonderful space to extend our times in DC. Thank you, everyone!
The worst stat in a long time. The floor I'm on is under renovations. Rooms all around me are being gutted and updated. While this is great news for guests it’s horrendous for those staying adjacent to the construction. I counted only 6 rooms on my wing that appear occupied and not under construction. The constant banging of doors, power tools, yelling down the halls by workers and banging against walls made it impossible to rest and sleep. Not every guest works days. Some of us need to sleep during the day. That was impossible. When I arrived at the hotel, I checked in and upon arriving at my room was greeted by three contractors standing inside measuring and discussing work. I guess the front desk wasn’t aware that was happening when they assigned me my room? Overall the staff are fantastic and the location amazing. When properties are under extensive renovations that impact guests the property should be informing guests of the work and hours it’s being completed. Specifically, putting guests in rooms that are surrounded by other rooms under construction without informing you on check-in there may be disruptions is simply not the kind of treatment you would expect at a property like this extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with my stay.
Once again, our stay at The Ven was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. It is a very convenient location and away from the hustle and bustle of Dupont Circle. The star of the show is Jorge at the bar. His approach to making amazing cocktails is a thing of beauty, and he is the main reason we choose to return here. His creations are the perfect blend of spirits, bitters, and aromatics that cause your taste buds to explode with the complex and perfectly balanced flavor of the drink. I highly recommend you experience his mixology magic!
I don’t know how this is considered to be a 4 star hotel. The bed sheets were rough, the pillows were chunky, and the towels like sand paper. Additionally, when we booked the place we got about $400 in taxes/fees added on to our bill. We were also told there was a $28 resort fee upon checking in. This is by far the worst value hotel I’ve stayed at — terrible quality and high cost.
Really disconcerting experience at check out. This was the drip pricing scheme that finally broke me. I should preface this by saying I practically live out of hotels. I have spent almost 1000 nights in hotels since Fall 2021. In that time, I have never seen staff so combative and ill-suited for hospitality as I did here. In short there is a daily resort fee - among others - added to the final bill. When I asked why the total amount was what it was, I was met with someone ready and wanting to fight - yelling, steamrolling, railroading, and interrupting (combined with all the classic combative DARVO techniques). I was so flustered - it was honestly surreal. This receptionists then called for a manager to explain. The manager continued with the yelling and was unable to provide a cogent explanation for the check out fees. I actually had to remind the manager (in a lobby full of people that she was the one who was yelling, not me). So it was me (1 guest), getting yelled at by 2 employees. When I promptly left the building, a guest who had witnessed the event apologized to me and said that he wished he had said something...it was that bad... As an aside, the rooms are really past their prime and the restaurant is not very good. I ordered crab and got a cheeseburger. I ate it because I didn't want to cause a fuss. The grilled cheese is just a slice of American cheese between two pieces of stale white bread.
I stay in Marriott properties +/- 200 nights a year and this was my best experience of 2024. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant to interact with during our stay. The rooftop wasn’t open but I will make it back to take advantage of the pool and bar. The location is convenient to many restaurants and bars. My wife and I were celebrating our 35 anniversary and The Ven made it very special. I should mention I did not tell anyone we were celebrating anything, this tells me the treatment we received is the norm.
The hotel costs more than it's value. I didn't believe the other reviews that were really railing on the quality of this hotel, but they were right. The room service was horrible (both the food quality and the service itself), and the rooms are dingy and drab, and give the feel of a cheap attempt at luxury. I was told that I was upgraded, but I can't imagine what the non-upgraded room would have been like because the quality of the room I did receive was so low. Also, the hotel double-charged me for my room service, and now I can't get in touch with them. The phone number on their website is wrong, and the number on my bill only connects to a fax machine. The hotel's only redeeming quality is it's location - based in DuPont Circle and near the Cosmos club and several embassies. I really do not recommend this hotel.
We just spent two wonderful nights at this hotel and had the best stay! The staff were incredibly friendly. The food was outstanding and room service was impressively fast. I loved the steak, tuna bowl, chicken, and salad. The breakfast was even better - highly recommend the rise and shine breakfast. We also loved the thoughtful touch of friendship bracelets they gave us at check in! We loved that the gym was open 24/7 and kept clean. I actually never end up working out at hotels but since the gym was so nice I worked out there twice in 24 hours. The basement had fun activities like ping pong and foosball. Our room was spotless, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The shower had fantastic water pressure, which was a nice bonus. The location couldn't be better, with a farmers market right next door on Sundays. We highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to come back for another stay!
