The Morrison House Old Town Alexandria offers a unique, art-focused boutique experience in a prime Old Town location. Guests consistently praise the warm hospitality, attentive staff like Miguel and Sam, and beautifully designed rooms. However, concerns regarding potential room inconsistencies (ranging from updated to older styles), parking difficulties, and occasional service disruptions have been raised.
My stay at Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment you walk in, you immediately feel that this is not just a hotel, but a carefully curated artistic experience. The design blends historic charm with a refined boutique style, creating an atmosphere that feels intimate, sophisticated, and full of character. Every space feels thoughtfully styled, almost like staying inside a living piece of art. The location in the heart of Old Town Alexandria is perfect, yet the hotel somehow feels peaceful and tucked away, like your own private retreat. Spending a few days here truly feels like a small piece of heaven. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that my wife asked if we could extend our stay, which says everything about how comfortable and welcomed we felt. What made the stay especially memorable was the genuine care and hospitality we experienced. Many staff members were warm, welcoming, and attentive, always ready to help and quick to make guests feel comfortable. While no place is ever perfect, the overall service truly stood out. I would especially like to recognize the manager, Miguel, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was handled with professionalism and grace. His attentiveness, leadership, and sincere care for guests made a real difference and elevated the entire experience. He has a rare gift for making you feel personally valued and truly looked after. The restaurant was also fantastic. Breakfast quickly became one of our favorite parts of the day, and the team even kindly prepared a special breakfast sandwich just for us, a small but thoughtful touch that made us feel right at home. The rooms are elegant, comfortable, and beautifully designed, with luxurious touches that make it easy to relax and unwind. Everything feels intentional and high quality. If you are looking for a place that combines art, history, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality, Morrison House is a wonderful choice. I would gladly return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Alexandria.
As a Marriott Ambassador, I've stayed at a variety of hotels, some great, some good and some awful. Only a handful are exceptional. The Morrison is one of those exceptional hotels. My room was a suite with a seperate living area, beautiful furnishings and very comfortable bed. Location is superb and right in the center of Old Town Alexandria. Above all, the staff deserves high recognition. Monique checked me in and exhuberated enthusiasm and knowledge. After a long day, she welcomed me with a smile and energy that radiated. Nancy and Sam were friendly and welcoming. As for the room, I changed my flight to later so I could stay longer in the room!! Highly recommend and will be back!!!! Kuddos!
Well run, Marriott affiliated small boutique hotel in old town, in walking distance to the waterfront. Very dog friendly, reasonable fee. Cool little bar/restaurant hidden behind the lobby bookshelf. Cozy spaces to sit in the lobby by a fireplace. Bed was comfortable, and bathroom had nice finishings. Did all the basics well. Would stay again!
We recently stayed one night at Morrison House. The main reason I am writing this review is because my experience was very different from another recent review. A recent review complained about their room being "old, basic, and rundown". We did not have that experience. Our room was recently updated with modern amenities like an electric fireplace. There may be a mix of older vs updated rooms available. The hotel was older but updated in a modern style and beautifully decorated for the holidays. I personally like the character of older hotels. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. To get in the front door requires climbing stairs. I do not know if there is a separate handicap-accessible entrance. I would call ahead before booking if that is something you need. The location was perfect. The hotel is right in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants to walk to. Others have complained about parking. We took advantage of the valet service, so we didn't have any issues on that front. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
My wife and I were invited to a holiday party hosted at the Morrison House Old Town Alexandria. First, parking in/around this place SUCKS! If you can valet, please do so to save your stress level. The hotel itself is stunningly gorgeous! I did not have the luxury of staying at the hotel, only a review of the entire first floor, staff, and the food/services. Staff were professional, courteous, friendly and very polite. There was never a moment that my drink wasn’t overflowing or my plate was empty. The food was fresh, delicious and plenty of it. If you’re looking for the perfect, intimate place to host a party or rest your head, please consider Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, you will not regret it. Enjoy!
My wife and I stayed here for the weekend for our anniversary after seeing great reviews online. Sam who worked the front desk was great and upgraded our room due to it being our anniversary. We were originally supposed to stay on the ground floor but he upgraded us to a room on the 5th floor. The hotel has an old historic look to it. However, there is a difference between having an historic look compared to just being an old hotel that is simply old, falling apart, and hasn’t been updated in years. Our room felt very old, basic, and run down. We had a radiator in our room to provide the heat which is something I haven’t seen in a hotel ever. There were cracks in the walls, the ceiling light looked like it was hanging on by a thread, and my wife did not feel comfortable taking a shower due to the old cracking dirty tiles. We could not walk in our room without the closets shaking and the floor creaking. We were also charged $45 a night for valet and a $25 destination fee every day despite there being no amenities or anything whatsoever. The only positive about this hotel is the location and how close it is to everything and the friendly staff. The hotel itself felt very old, run down, and not taken care of. There was also only one elevator which looked very old and ran as if we may or may not get stuck in it everytime we got on.
I really wanted to like this place — the location was perfect for my weekend — but the service left a lot to be desired. First, the “valet” parking, if you can call it that. It was hard to find, marked with a tiny sign, with no attendant and no instructions. I circled the block three times before realizing that this was supposedly the valet. I called the front desk and was told to park anywhere and they’d “take care of it” from there. Not exactly reassuring. Then, the room. The electronic key system simply didn’t work. I stepped out briefly — leaving my phone and everything else inside — and couldn’t get back in. The front desk issued new keys twice, and neither set worked. They eventually had to call “engineering” from their sister hotel, who apparently keep banker’s hours and were unavailable on a Saturday evening — a pretty normal check-in time. When someone finally arrived, they opened the door with some sort of zapper tool, but the lock continued to malfunction throughout my one-night stay, failing two more times. They did comp the valet fee because of the trouble. How generous. Then there was the restaurant. It has rave reviews on several apps, but I didn’t see it. At best, it was a 4-star meal. The “executive chef” seemed to be trying very hard to create unique dishes inspired by his home country, but they came out more odd than innovative — and not properly executed. I ordered a dish plastered with warnings about undercooked beef, yet what I received was basically overcooked steak tips. I expected rare to medium-rare; I got medium to well. And the place wasn’t even that busy. All in all, not a great experience. The location is perfect for Old Town Alexandria, but the hotel itself is little more than a place to crash — and even that felt like a stretch..
Anytime I am in the area I choose the Morrison. I used to stay with a friend a block away but I love the hotel so much, it feels like a second home. Very fine service, such as Sam D, who helped me choose the room with my favorite view and was able to arrange late check out on a Monday since my train departed later in the afternoon at 5. He remembers my name when I return twice a year and makes me feel so at home. It is the best old town location and yet is very quiet. I love the new library and hope to return for the weekend piano bar events!
I loved the location, and the room was very modern and comfortable. My husband and I went for a Valentine's Day getaway, and it was perfect. Plus, due to the hotels location, there were tons of shops and local restaurants. We had a great time before and after ?.
Wonderful boutique hotel in prime location. The service was excellent. Timely and delivered with kindness and grace. Everyone was accommodating. Sam, Casimir, and Lydia were wonderful. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed. Really enjoyed the sheets. The FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I had the best piece of halibut easily in the last 10 years. The bread includes Masa. OMG I thought I didn’t like masa but I was so good. And the Tres Leches cake …..beautiful rendition. Or perhaps it’s the original since it was his grandmother’s recipe. I was so comfortable, I stayed an extra night.
