The Mayflower Hotel offers a historic and luxurious experience in the heart of Washington, D.C., boasting a prime location near iconic landmarks and a grand, opulent ambiance. While praised for its historical significance and service, recent reviews highlight concerns regarding room maintenance and inconsistent service standards.
A beautiful historic Hotel within walking distance from The White House, Capitol, And the Monument. There is major construction in front and around The White House so if you want to see it, it's best to go another time. Also within walking distance of the Milkin Center of the American Dream Museum- a new free museum which is amazing!! The hotel suite was beautiful, comfortable bed, large closet with a hotel robe. Huge TV's and a ballroom where Presidents had inaugural balls. Nixon and Truman even stayed there. Mbers of the Kennedy family even stay there when in town for events! The staff are super friendly and RAPHAEL (a doorman) was so nice and friendly! Super nice guy!! We'll definitely return there to stay again!
Last night, I drove up the hotel and asked the doorman/commissionaire where the best places to park would be – he kindly directed me to a parking garage around the corner. As I was about to turn, he caught up with me: he had found me a free parking spot right on the corner and even helped me pull in so that I was safely in the spot. Marvelous service and greatly appreciated, allowing me to make the most of the Amnesty International conference. Thank you!
Prime Location: Situated just blocks from the White House and the National Mall, it provides easy access to the city’s most iconic monuments, museums, and the business district. The Mayflower is ideal for travelers who appreciate deep historical roots and a classic, upscale DC experience. Its recent renovations have carefully preserved its 1920s charm while integrating the high-tech amenities expected by modern guests.
????? Review of the Mayflower Hotel If you’re visiting Washington, DC and want to stay somewhere that truly captures the elegance and history of the city, the Mayflower Hotel is absolutely the place to be. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with timeless charm, stunning architecture, and a grand lobby that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a classic era of sophistication. The rooms are beautifully appointed — spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed with a perfect blend of historic character and modern luxury. The beds are incredibly comfortable, making it easy to relax after a full day exploring DC. The service is top-notch. The staff is professional, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. They go above and beyond to make sure every detail of your stay is perfect. You can truly feel the pride they take in this iconic hotel. The location is also unbeatable — close to major attractions, restaurants, and everything you’d want to see while in DC. Whether you’re visiting for business or a getaway, this hotel delivers on every level. Five stars all the way! ?????????? A classic DC experience that you won’t forget.
Stepping into The Mayflower Hotel isn't just a check-in; it’s an invitation into the "Second Best Address in Washington." Whether you are a solo traveler seeking a sophisticated retreat, a couple on a romantic escape, or a family exploring the nation's capital, this Autograph Collection landmark manages to feel like a grand historic stage and an intimate home away from home all at once. A Masterclass in Attendance to Detail: The first thing you’ll notice is the stunning Beaux-Arts architecture. From the gilded ceilings of the 400-foot-long grand promenade to the meticulously restored ballrooms, the hotel breathes a sense of "Old Hollywood" glamour mixed with political intrigue. The attention to detail extends beyond the gold leaf: • The Rooms: Sophisticated and airy, the rooms feature a crisp palette of warm grays and jeweled tones that feel modern without losing their historic soul. • The Signature Scent: The lobby’s subtle, high-end fragrance greets you like an old friend, immediately signaling that you’ve entered a world of curated luxury. • Thoughtful Touches: Keep an eye out for the "hidden history"—like the framed copies of the G.I. Bill, which was famously drafted on the hotel’s own stationery. Why It Works for Everyone ? • For Singles: The Edgar Bar & Kitchen is a legendary D.C. "see-and-be-seen" spot. It’s perfect for a solo power breakfast or a handcrafted evening cocktail where you can soak in the vibrant, professional energy of the city. • For Couples: There is an undeniable romance to the "Married at The Mayflower" legacy. Couples will love the proximity to Dupont Circle for moonlit strolls and the marble bathrooms that turn every morning into a spa-like ritual. • For Families: Despite its grandeur, the Mayflower is surprisingly warm toward its youngest guests. The staff is famously accommodating with connecting rooms and cribs, and the central location—just blocks from the White House and the Smithsonian museums—means less time in Ubers and more time exploring. The Heart of the House: The Staff What truly separates The Mayflower from other D.C. institutions for me is the highest caliber of customer service. The staff here doesn’t just perform tasks; they anticipate needs. From bellmen who remember your name to the concierge team that can secure the most difficult dinner reservations in the District, there is a pervasive "yes-and" attitude. It’s a level of kindness that makes you feel like a dignitary, even if you’re just there for a weekend staycation.
Love the Mayflower! It feels like you've step back in time when you walk in. The energy is very historical and it is absolutely beautifully decorated. My company team had our christmas party and it was so nice. The good was yummy and the staff was prompt and friendly. No issues with the AV equipment. I noticed a lot of parties happening. It was a good time. The bar ia nice too. I saw one of the rooms and it was very nice!
Traveled for business with a group, we arrived in the early evening, and I was the only one of us who had already received my digital room key in the Marriott app. While waiting for everyone else to check in, I decided to get a physical key as well while I was there waiting anyway. I was the only one of the group of about 12 of us who was a Titanium member. As we checked in, every single one in our group - except me - were offered water, welcomed, and thanked for being a Silver member. I received no thank you for being a Titanium, no explanation of hotel benefits, no water, and as I turned to walk away, I was called back - to swipe a card for incidentals. My Marriott number was in my reservation and in the app, along with the credit card so he didn’t need to swipe, the room was paid for in advance, and all of this was visible to the front desk, had he cared to look. It was not busy, there was no line, I was the last of the group to check in, no one was rushed, and there was plenty of staff around. I paused and waited at the front desk until it became awkward, and then when it became clear he was not going to say anything more, welcome me, thank me for being Titanium, or offer me water I just thanked the gentleman at the front desk and moved on. Hotel lobby was grand and nicely decorated. Hotel bar was bustling. Room was fine. When I met the group the next morning I learned they all had been given a card and were told it had money to use towards breakfast. I had no knowledge of this, so I missed out on that as well. Marriott, you are on a downhill trend with customer service, and it’s becoming very clear that loyalty no longer carries any value and does not matter anymore. Might have to look to other brands in 2026 to switch over to and see if they give better service.
Very nice hotel. The front office staff was friendly and the manager amazing. Convenient location next to restaurants and shopping. The hotel is in walking distance to the Whitehouse, the Mall and many other historical locations. The property has the regular hotel and the vacation club at the same property so ensure you book the right type of stay.
Absolutely beautiful hotel located in downtown DC. A landmark hotel that opened 100 years ago in 1925. The staff here is outstanding. From the front desk staff to the car valet, everyone was friendly and helpful. We made our reservation online, and check-in was efficient and quick. Our room was ready before the check-in time, which helped us out tremendously in getting ready and on our way to the event. Our room was large, clean and spacious. We had a one bedroom suite with a king bed. It was quiet and comfortable. Loved the faux fireplace and in-room coffee maker. I appreciate hotels that have 24-hour fitness centers. This does and it was a fantastic place to work out. The pictures below were taking during the holidays and you can see what a beautiful hotel this is. Stop by and stay in the landmark and a piece of history.
Location is great and the staff is very nice and helpful. However, the rooms and facilities overall are disappointing for the price. I was woken up every morning because of the pipes (the sound of the water running through is incredibly loud when your neighbor is showering), and it’s similar with their heating system (very old and loud as well). The main issue I had was that the thermostat in my room was clearly faulty, so I had to choose between 78 degree heat, or being frozen at 62. Because of all these issues, I couldn’t properly rest and it was a stressful and uncomfortable stay. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
