The Melrose Georgetown Hotel receives mixed reviews, highlighting positive aspects like room layout, bed comfort, and location, but also significant concerns regarding cleanliness, HVAC issues, inconsistent service, and unexpected fees. Recent reviews suggest a decline in some operational areas, despite acknowledging the hotel’s historical charm and some staff member’s exceptional service.

Room 613 — Visit date February 20, 2026 Jen saved the best for last. The suite-style layout was excellent — living room up front for activity and the bedroom tucked around the corner for privacy. The King bed was outstanding, and transitioning back to a Queen at home will be difficult. Pillow game was strong. One practical drawback: not enough electrical outlets for modern travel needs. Between mobile phones, laptops, GoPro cameras, and wireless headphones, accessible plug-in space was limited. There was a building-wide HVAC issue during our stay, and the system was pushing hot air despite February temperatures. We solved it by opening the windows and letting in the 35° D.C. air, which worked surprisingly well. The embroidered dark “Makeup” towel was a thoughtful touch — a small detail that shows attention to guest experience. Where the stay fell short was in bathroom functionality. The single-handle shower control spins fully around with no clear stop point, making temperature and on/off positioning confusing at first. The wall-mounted Molton Brown shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers looked upscale but dispensed inconsistently and often dribbled product down the bottles. Bath towels were smaller than expected. One additional note for fellow drivers: the hotel does not have dedicated self-parking. If you’re conditioned to seeking out garages in major cities (Seattle habits die hard), plan ahead. The baggage attendant was friendly and helpful and suggested using SpotHero. Following that advice, I found overnight parking nearby for $25 instead of the $76 valet rate. Overall, the room layout and bed comfort were excellent. The stay was very good — just a few execution details kept it from being five stars.

Our family had a wonderful stay here! Close walking to everything you need, Trader Joe’s and Starbucks just up a block. Georgetown shopping just a 5 min walk. Staff is so friendly! Rooms are very spacious and cozy. Headboards are faded and look a bit tired, but not a dealbreaker. Only suggestion - we would have liked a more professional dressed and attentive bartender, the lady bartender who worked when we stayed (Jan 29-Feb 1) would disappear for very long periods of time. She dressed like she was going to dance at a strip club (breasts literally falling out). For a family hotel, not appropriate.

We stayed at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel for three (3) nights. First, the location is wonderful if you are visiting D.C. and surrounding areas. There are plenty of GREAT food places nearby from casual to upscale! There is no free parking so be prepared to spend $70 a day if you rent a car or bring your own. My advice is to uber and walk. You will save a lot of money this way. We rented a car and didn't use it but one day during the trip. The Uber community in downtown D.C. is phenomenal! Check-in was nice, the night staff was very laid back and kind. There is a $300 hold for your stay, I'm assuming this is $100 per night. The lobby was very fancy looking and gave a high-class feel. The rooms, not so much..... The rooms could use a major makeover as far as paint, furniture, a deep clean, repair of the AC/Heating system, and bathroom drains. If you aren't too big on everything being fancy and just need a nice place to stay for a fair price in downtown D.C. then none of this will be a problem for you. Sides of the bed were very dusty (chucks of dust and old stuff), the headboard had an old booger on it, the sink was stopped up, and the bathroom is very small. We cleaned the room ourselves the first night and just continued to do so ourselves the next three (3) nights. We figured if they didn't clean the room before us, what would make a difference now. There is a fee that wasn't expressed upfront, so I advise to call the hotel front desk and speak with them and ask them questions about all fee's before booking. The checkout process was a bit sketchy, the older lady took my room keys and told me that I would be checked out after the morning audit is complete and did not provide me with any other options. She told me this in a manner of I had no other choice and this is what we are going to do. I did not receive an email confirmation or printed receipt at the "time of checkout" nor have a received a final receipt by the time of this review (The next day). If you used valet, you will have to walk with security to retrieve your car if you need it before 7 AM! The parking garage is very tiny and the parking spots are very hard to get out of. Took me 5 minutes to pull from the parking spot. Overall, I recommend this hotel if you just need somewhere to stay close to downtown D.C. and you don't really care about the quality of the hotel. If not, I cannot recommend the Melrose Georgetown Hotel.

I’m giving this one star because it is the lowest I can go. There is a historic preservation fee that they don’t tell you about till the last day. If you are planning on budgeting on your trip or you do not expect this fee, expect $30 every day you stay there as well as a five dollar occupancy tax. This is not listed anywhere on the website. If it was, we would not have stayed here. I suggest you do the same.

Had an event at Four Seasons and this was the overflow hotel. Well worth it. Historic hotel so rooms have a little wear but still good. The highlight was "Z" (the bartender's nickname) in the lobby. So engaging and cool. She actually made my stay so enjoyable with our conversations. The coffee makers in the room are a little loud, but ok. Coffee in the lobby just off elevators was great to be able to grab and go. Walk to Four Seasons, downtown Georgetown or anywhere else are not bad. Uber was also usually available and arrived really quick if/when needed. Hotel had full umbrellas available in closet if needed which was a nice touch.

Exceptional hotel for the price, located on the edge of Georgetown and a short walk from central DC and Foggy Bottom metro station. We had a large corner suite with beautiful views of leafy Georgetown and Washington DC. The hotel was well maintained, especially in foyer and corridors with thick carpets - we appreciated the free hot drinks available at reception. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable, but the air conditioning a bit unreliable. Staff were polite and welcoming. We had a really good stay, and would recommend if visiting DC.

The hotel and the location are wonderful. The issue we had was with the deposit and the historic preservation tax. When we arrived at the hotel they held 200$ deposit (100$/night) and told us we will have to pay 34$ as historical preservation tax. We booked via Booking and it specifically mentioned all taxes are included and there was no mention of the deposit. When we checked out they mentioned they will reimburse the deposit minus 74$ for the historical preservation tax. This was happening on the 13th. Issues we had: 1. Deposit and tax were not mentioned when we booked. 2. The receptionist mentioned 34$ the first night and 74$ when we checked out. 3. It's the 20th today and the deposit was not returned to us.

We never usually spend the money to stay at a "boutique hotel", especially while on vacation. But, it was a special occasion. For my birthday, my husband chose the hotel. It was chosen for its location and reasonable price for what it was. We arrived late in the evening, very late, but the front desk gal Melissa was super helpful and wonderfully sweet for it being almost 2am. We stayed 3 nights and the only real complaint we had was the a/c wasn't working in our room. Liz at the desk worked so hard to rectify situation as soon as she possibly could. The service here is exemplary. The location is good, located super close to the metro at Foggy Bottom and other great restaurants. It's quiet and the rooms are comfortable. Breakfast was good, a little on the bland side, but still good. Fresh coffee and tea in the lobby every morning is a lovely touch.

STAY AWAY! The hotel has one HVAC system for the entire property. It was cool out, so only heat was working. There was no way to cool the room and I could not sleep well both nights of my stay as it was too hot. I left a zombie and took an earlier flight home because I felt ill as a result of not sleeping for two nights in a row. Completely ruined my trip! The hotel needs an upgrade and a thorough cleaning. The bathroom is small and outdated and so is the small TV. Not a smart TV either. The front desk staff is not helpful and Mel was argumentative and dismissive. At around 11 PM, I called the front desk three times and let it ring 20 times each over 10 minutes. Mel did not answer the phone for 10 minutes because of a “shift change“. I actually had to go down to the front desk to ask her if room service was open and then she argued with me about why it was okay that she didn’t answer the phone. I then asked for the manager on duty and she told me that it was her, but she would not give me her last name so I could make a formal complaint. This is a three star hotel pretending to be a four star. (I had just come from a three star Best Western hotel in New Jersey which was better than this hotel.) Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else! The only good thing about this hotel is the bartender Simone. She was great.

The Melrose Georgetown Hotel..... WOW. The service was AMAZING, EXCEPTIONAL, ABOVE, AND BEYOND. Geo, at the front desk, was super friendly and informational, with a great attitude, a great personality, and overall great service. I would 100% stay at this hotel again if I come back to DC. Our room was on the 6th floor, with a great view of the street and many buildings around. It was clean, comfortable, and spacious. No kids running around making noise, no steps heard at night. The front desk attendants were always very helpful at any time of the day or night. The location is set perfectly to have everything close by to explore. It was my 1st time meeting my long-distance girlfriend, and honestly, I would do it all over again in that same hotel if I could reverse time. The aesthetic of the building is beautiful inside and out. Very clean and proper for their type of hotel. We had dinner at their restaurant around 9 pm. The tables were beautiful, set with shiny clean silverware, and real flowers. The food??? my cheers to the chef who prepared our food. The taste, the textures, everything about the dishes there made you want more. Most delicious of all, however, for those of us with a sweet tooth, NEVER pass up on the lava cake?, soft, silky, warm, chocolaty spoonfuls of delight and delicate flavor. With a scoop of perfect strawberry ice cream. If you're planning a romantic get away in DC, please take my advice and give the Melrose a try, you wont regret it!????. Thank you once again Geo, and Genesis, for making our stay extra special and meaningful!
