The Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown, consistently receives positive feedback for its location, friendly staff, and beautiful lobby. While many guests praise the comfortable rooms and excellent service, some reviews highlight cleanliness and amenities concerns, particularly related to the gym and pool areas. The hotel's ability to handle unexpected travel disruptions was also noted, though a few incidents of poor service and billing issues were reported.
Our stay was very nice. We were on Fairmont Gold floor 9 and all was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food in the lounge was very good and displayed nicely. Room service meal we had was also delicious. The location is super. The hotel lobby is fantastic - love the decor! We didn't have time to utilize the pool or other areas but they looked great!
I stayed at the Fairmont Washington and found both the facilities and the staff to be excellent. The hotel itself is well-appointed and comfortable, making for a very enjoyable stay. What really stood out, however, was the service—particularly in the business lounge. The staff there were engaging, friendly, and always ready to help, which made a real difference. Their attentiveness and professionalism added a personal touch that elevated the whole experience. I would happily stay there again.
The room was great and i loved the amenities. However there are some issues with the housekeeping. The housekeeping entered my room despite the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign and i didn’t feel safe about that. The breakfast was good. It was a little bit complicate to order it but maybe there is not enough staff?
I booked a family vacation - two adjoining rooms. I booked directly with Fairmont over the phone. We had a special rate - stay 2 night, 3rd night free. Our flight was diverted on our first night, as the FAA shut down all airports in VA and Baltimore due to an issue at their central FAA location. This was all over the news, as thousands of flights were canceled. Our flight sent us to Charlotte and we would not be able to get to DC on the first night because it was a 6 hour drive and all flights to DC were grounded indefinitely. I called the hotel where I spoke with someone and told them we would not arrive on Friday night due to this situation. We managed to arrive at 6 PM on Saturday, and when we went to check in, we were informed our rooms had been given away and they were charging us a $499/room “no show fee,” despite the fact that I had called and told them we would be unable to arrive due to the ground stop at the airports. I began crying, as we have four children and then had nowhere to stay. The manager told us the only thing she “could do” was charge us $2600 for the two rooms for two nights, and that we would forfeit the $1000 deposit we had paid. She would not budge, and did nothing to help us in any way. We checked in and paid these exorbitant rates because we had no other choice. One of our rooms had no functioning A/C. The maintenance people had to come twice to fix it. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The tubs/showers did not drain properly. And rather than having two rooms for three nights at a total of $2000, we were forced to pay $3600 for 2 nights due to the fraudulent no-show penalty we were charged, as well as a higher room rate per night. It was a horrible experience, and I do not plan to ever return. The maintenance workers and valets at the hotel were amazing, and we appreciated their hard work. Upon checkout, I was able to discuss our situation with a non-manager (just a regular hotel employee!) and he reversed the no-show fees without any issue. We still don’t understand why the manager on Saturday was so hostile to us, and claimed she could do nothing about the $1000 fee since her subordinate took care of it right away. We still overpaid quite a bit due to the higher room rates we were forced into paying for the two nights, as well as not being able to get an effective 33% off due to the free night we weren’t given. It was a really sad situation and it ruined our trip.
Totally mediocre. This hotel was not as nice as other Fairmont's I've stayed in, by a long shot. I honestly expected more in terms of decor, elegance, over all amenities and look of the hotel. If you're a Fairmont person, or just a person who tries to get hotels on the higher end, this one doesn't really live up. I travel all the time for my kids sports and stay in cheap hotels with the team... the room at this hotel was honestly only a notch above a Holiday Inn/Fairfield type... totally unluxurious. Super bare bones. It felt like there were obvious cost cutting efforts taking place- one main example among many was the large Costco-style shampoo, conditioner/lotions bolted to the wall. Nothing says welcome like everyday bath items chained and in huge jugs... tacky. Additionally, the spa/amenities really leave a lot to be desired. The locker rooms are woefully underserved, there were literally no towels the entire weekend, we ended up bringing them from our room (not just once), the finish is tired (ie dirty and cracked tiles etc in the hot tub/pool area) , doors hanging off lockers and the empty towel fixture... it was very surprising for a hotel of this (supposed) caliber. The hours of the amenities are technically 8 pm on the weekend for closing, but the (rude) staff was quick to inform us that "we get off at 8, we don't close at 8." Meaning they shut down the sauna, pool etc at 7:30. So no using any of the amenities after 7:30 on the weekends- how weird is that? Ultimately, it was disappointing for a Fairmont. Fine if they decide to start charging more like $200/night (the sweet girl at the front desk who checked us in was a total doll, however- loved her :))
We loved our stay at the Fairmont Georgetown. It's a beautiful hotel, starting with the gorgeous lobby and ending with our well-appointed and beautifully maintained room. The hotel upgraded us to a Signature King room which we very much appreciated. The Fairmont is in a great location in Georgetown, quiet and away from the crowds and noise of the National Mall area, but just a short Uber ride away. Food was excellent as well. We dined at Juniper for breakfast, and had room service for dinner one night, and both times, the food was great. For dinner, we had the lobster roll which was amazing (and we come from a city with fantastic seafood). If we had to list one complaint, it's that the pool is part of a gym, so it's not really conducive to just relaxing - it's for swimming laps, but overall, a minor issue. We come to DC around once a year, and from now on, we'll be staying at the Fairmont.
I love everything about this hotel. The hotel staff are always friendly and incredibly helpful, the rooms are clean with very comfortable beds, good lighting and great bathrooms, and the location is perfect. This time we had to change our travel plans mid-trip and the front desk staff were so helpful and accommodating, figuring out how to rearrange things so it worked for us with no effort at all on our part. We’ve been staying here when we visit Washington for 15 years and can’t wait to go back!
The Fairmont is clustered with other nice hotels in DC’s “West End” neighborhood. The rooms are nicely appointed. The food is good and there are also great dining options nearby. Georgetown is three blocks away. We took a suite for a week during the holidays. Other hotels may be nearly as nice, but we seriously doubt they can match the Fairmont for warmth and graciousness of service. From the front desk (shout out to Bethlehem) to dining, to housekeeping staff, every employee is a gem.
My husband and I enjoyed a 2 night stay recently. The staff were friendly and the inside lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Our room was clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The proximity to local eateries was great; we walked to the DuPont Circle area and enjoyed a meal and some shopping. After a long day of walking the streets of the Capital, we enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and steam room. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely stay again.
We had a nice stay but our expectations were a bit higher based on other Fairmont properties we have stay at. We expected a fabulous Christmas decor experience like the Seattle location but here was subpar. The rooms feel dated and overall I think the hotel could use a bit more glamour for the price you pay.
