The Thompson Washington D.C. consistently receives high praise for its outstanding, friendly staff and upscale, convenient location near the Navy Yard. Guests appreciate the hotel's luxurious atmosphere and exceptional service, particularly at the restaurant and rooftop bar. However, some recent guests have experienced reservation issues leading to duplicate charges.
Great hotel worth staying at. Room was good, location somewhat central. 5 stars because of employees here. The front desk was always super helpful, the doorman actually wanted to help, and every single person on the breakfast crew at Surveyor was top notch. They always knew my kids wanted French toast with everything on the side and learned my wife’s matcha order. Great experience and would absolutely stay here again.
So I booked via the Amex platinum luxery portal. Sounds really good on the surface, we got a nicer room, got the credit for the bar. Everyone was friendly. Rooms are good enough. Location good. Foods so so. Now when you want your Hyatt points for an expensive stay that you get a slight win via Amex with, one that you are treated like you are very important. It becomes quickly oh this is an Expedia reservation. Kinda sucks because it's so expensive to it would have been good points. I likely wouldn't do a Hyatt property via the Amex high end portal again.
We had a nice extended stay at the Thompson Washington DC at the Navy Yard, directly adjacent to the boardwalk along the Anacostia river. The staff is outstanding and this hotel succeeds at something very few luxury hotels achieve. They provide a luxury experience while at the same time making you feel like you are staying with friends. Another guest mentioned without prompting that everyone was so friendly after one of the housekeeping staff had said hello to all of us getting on the elevator. And instead of techno hotel music, in this hotel you hear Motown and classic Pop…such a breath of fresh air. The breakfast at the hotel restaurant “Surveyor” (open at 6:30 a.m.) is very very good, we tried a number of entrees and enjoyed them all. The waitstaff is superb. Taylor and Catherine are like a ray of sunshine in the morning. We also ate a late night “dinner” at the rooftop bar one night. Inside is a traditional boisterous Friday night hotel bar and outside along the roof perimeter is serene seating with nice views. Octavia and the other staff, including the security staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed a nice rooftop dining experience on a warm DC night, prices were very reasonable. We don’t imbibe so can’t speak to the drinks, but we’re pleased with the food experience. Hats off to Eric and his hardworking food and beverage staff, it made our stay. If you choose valet parking, which is the most convenient, Dillon and the valet staff are very friendly and efficient, you electronically ask for your car and you get a text when it’s out front ~$65 per day with tax. For other overnight parking alternatives, there are garages and parking lots nearby that are $35~$40 and street parking using the ParkMobile app ~$25, there is no free overnight parking nearby that we found. The ParkMobile App will let you book parking sessions back to back, I didn’t get any tickets but this seems odd to me, it was like that all over DC. The front desk staff were picture perfect. Jennifer, Monique and Efram were so friendly and helpful. I had a lot of questions and they answered them all and they worked hard to accommodate special requests that we had. Our room had a really nice outlook of the river and navy yard (thank you Jennifer) and we loved the oversized openable window. However, we were not a fan of the room layout. There is ~50 sq. ft. of unusable hallway in a 275 sq. ft. hotel room. As a result there is no room for a desk or chair, which was missed. Fridge worked great. The bed was very comfy, bathroom was nice, no-door shower worked well, just point shower nozzle down a bit, splish splash stays in the bath. Suggest if you’re gonna be in the room for more than just sleeping maybe consider booking a larger room than the standard one queen room. We had a very pleasant extended stay at the Thompson, DC Navy Yard. Million is already famous, and the rest of the hard working exceptional staff will be. When we travel to DC again, the Thompson will definitely be on the top of our list.
Had such a great stay over the weekend! The front desk staff and valet were accommodating as soon as we arrived. Check in was easy and we were welcomed with fresh juice. Our room was clean and modern. We had a double queen and the room felt very roomy. The area the hotel was in felt very safe and was walkable to the metro and many restaurants. We went to a festival at RFK fairgrounds which was only a 15min ride. It’s walking distance to the baseball stadium as well. I would happily stay here again in the future!
Amazing hotel overall — we absolutely loved our stay. The property is clean, modern, and in a very convenient location. The staff was friendly, and the room was great. The only issue we experienced was with our reservation. I booked the hotel through Chase Travel using points from my credit card. However, when we arrived, the front desk could not find the reservation in their system. The receptionist was very helpful and assured us he would resolve everything. As an apology for the inconvenience, he waived the urban fee and also offered us a late checkout until 1 PM, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, I later noticed that my credit card was charged again for the stay, meaning I effectively paid twice — once through Chase Travel with points and a second time directly at the hotel. I even forwarded my Chase confirmation email to the receptionist during checking in so he could send it to his manager. I contacted the hotel afterward but still haven’t received a response regarding the duplicate charge. Aside from this issue, the hotel itself was wonderful, and we truly enjoyed our stay.
