The Hotel at the University of Maryland consistently receives high praise for its exceptional service, particularly from staff members like Yocelyn, who goes above and beyond for event planning. While some guests appreciate the hotel's convenient location and elegant rooms, concerns regarding front desk communication and occasional operational issues, such as power outages and scheduling conflicts, have been raised.
We had a wonderful experience hosting our event at the Hotel at UMD. From start to finish, everything was handled with professionalism, efficiency, and care. A special thank you to Yocelyn, who was absolutely outstanding. She ensured that pricing was fair and reasonable, clearly outlined what was included, and made the entire process seamless. Most importantly, she was attentive and proactive in making sure our event ran smoothly on the day of — which it absolutely did. We truly appreciate Yocelyn’s attention to detail and support throughout the process. Highly recommend the Hotel at UMD for anyone planning an event — and if you have the chance to work with Yocelyn, you’ll be in excellent hands.
TV didn’t work. The power went out 3x for the entire hotel. Water wasn’t working from 11p-5a which they scheduled but failed to share that information prior to my arrival. The people at the front desk speak so softly you can’t hear them and they can answer ZERO questions about anything. The lights in the rooms are impossible to figure out. No normal light switches. Tried to go to the Grille restaurant in the lobby and the host (who was nice but needs some OSHA training) carried my drinking glass to the table with his fingers IN the glass then the server poured water in it for me to drink. No thanks. The rooms are clean and new, that was the only redeeming part.
A stupendous, luxurious hotel. It is just stunning. Had the pleasure of coming here in 2016 or an political event and the majesty of this place left me in awe. The architecture is magnificent. The decor is very exquisite. Restrooms were clean. Location is also just right as it is not far from Baltimore, Washington, DC or Philadelphia. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommend this hotel. Definitely must come here again!
I just left the hotel after a quick 1-night stay with my 2 kids to attend a Terps basketball game. Even though we live about a half hour away, I thought it would be fun to make a night of it during Winter Break and The Hotel was the perfect choice! It kills me that I forget her name, but the girl at check-in was so friendly and welcoming. I remember she's El Salvadorean and lives in PG County. She wonderfully upgraded our room with a great campus view, top floor, 2 beds, early check-in, and comped our parking just because! That kind of service will keep me coming back. Speaking of which, I think this was my 6th time staying at the hotel. My only gripe in the past was that the beautiful indoor pool was always too chilly, borderline unusable (even my kids thought it was too cold in the past.) However, I am happy to report that they've started heating the pool and it was perfectly comfortable this stay. Of course, I could always use an extra degree or two but it was perfectly nice for my kids and I to splash around for an hour. College Park is certainly not NYC, but it's still an urban town and so you'll definitely hear street noise in the campus-view rooms. If you prefer much quieter, I recommend an even-numbered room facing the outdoor/central courtyard of the hotel. But if a little street noise doesn't bother you, the campus view is totally worth it. Thanks again for a great stay; we can't wait to come back.
The communication skills in the state continues to baffle me. I had to do a late/last-minute check-in after getting off a flight. I booked through Booking.com. I received a confirmation + a message from the property stating that I was confirmed. Cool. I head over there as I am exhausted from my travels. Parking? You need to scan the QR code to pay but for whatever reason it wasn't taking my card. I decided to have the front desk assist. I go to the front desk and they say they can’t find my reservation. So I call booking.com. They say they will call and email. I am sitting right near the desk didn't hear a phone ring, and the concierge said no emails arrived. But, I could just book through them. I stated that I prepaid and I read what Booking.com stated in the app that I prepaid and the hotel would pull at any time. I reread this out loud and showed the team multiple times. He took my phone with the message back to the manager. The manager came back with paper highlighting my card on file for Booking.com. Funny I thought they couldn't find my reservation, yet I am staring at my credit card numbers printed out with Booking.com at the top. They ensure that I won't be charged twice. So I proceeded to book again directly with them. Guess who got charged twice? You guessed it, me. So I called down to the front desk the following morning after being jolted into the day by their fire alarm system which was a “precaution” test that they were very lax about. The woman said, she would refund me. Did she? No. I called back a few days later because my bank said no refund came in. I spoke with the manager who explicitly told me that I wouldn’t be charged twice and said it happened because of a no-show….???????? Gorgeous rooms + view in the King Suite however.
We had a large conference a the hotel. I was able to commute there for the day so I did not stay overnight at the hotel.. The hotel staff, the heart of the hotel, were amazing helping attendants; where many had mobility challenges. It is nice to see employees take pride in their roll during the conference. Thank you helping to make our conference even more successful
We stay at the Hotel any chance we get when visiting our daughter at UMD. The location is fantastic - we park our car in the garage and can walk everywhere, but if we needed to, in and out is easy. The rooms are always clean and have great options. The restaurants and lobby bar are great. I am always disappointed when we cannot stay at The Hotel and have to stay in one of the other hotels in the area.
I attended the Women's Business Breakfast event on Oct. 7, 2025. I requested a vegetarian breakfast. I was presented with the most pleasing meal I've had at any restaurant over the last two years. The sweet potatoes, russets, fried tomatoes, etc... were all delicious, and the dollop of spinach sautéed in garlic was just enough to delight my palate without overpowering the taste of the other vegetables. Thank you!
Very nice place to have a reception of any sort. Construction around The Hotel was annoying but won't last forever. The room we were in was spacious and well decorated. Very elegant. Staff was fantastic. The food was great.
This is the fourth time I've stayed here while visiting UMD and it never disappoints. When I checked in, I found I had made a mistake with my booking on the wrong day. Gabriel, at registration, quickly put me at ease and put me in a great room. The staff is always friendly and more than helpful. The rooms are always meticulously clean and appointed. I won't stay anywhere else.
