The Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol generally receives mixed reviews, with some praising its convenient location and friendly staff, while others highlight significant cleanliness issues, malfunctioning amenities, and inconsistent service. Recent reports indicate problems with hot water, outdated equipment, and a lack of responsiveness from hotel management. Value is only satisfactory due to location.
I only booked this place for one night for a quick trip to the city. We tried to do early check in but winded up just waiting in the lobby for 4 hours. They will allow you to store your luggage and that’s a plus if you have plans. I really just needed to rest prior to my event in the evening. The room was clean enough and spacious. If you vape, don’t book here. They have a notice in the room that the rooms are equipped to detect it and you will be charged a cleaning fee. Woke up this morning and the water in the shower would not get hot. That was the worse part of the stay. I did not have time to call anyone to complain. I had a train to catch back home. The staff I encountered were very pleasant and nice. I have zero complaints about them. Would I stay here again? Nope, I’ve never not had hot water to shower at a hotel before.
One of the worst stays in a hotel I've ever had. There were no full size towels, but that didn't matter because there was no hot water. The water in the shower had no water pressure. I had a better clean outside in the rain. There was also a massive trash problem during our stay. Dental Floss stick and coffee lids in the elevators, overflowing trash in the elevator lobbies on certain floors and overpriced refreshments. Edit - The response from the hotel said there were large towels on the rack. There was not. I am not a large human, and unless you are a hotel for Toddlers this is poor. There was no pressure, no hot water and it was dirty.
Overall, it was a fairly decent stay for the price, nothing fancy, but adequate. The lobby felt average in terms of upkeep. Not dirty, but not particularly well-maintained either. There was no complimentary water in the room, which seems to be increasingly common now. The room itself was spacious and functional, which I appreciated. However, the TV was quite outdated with no casting capabilities. The location is definitely a plus, about a 7-minute walk to the nearest metro station, making it convenient to get around the city.
Great service and staff and the rooms are standard hotel chain standard. First time here and they took care of me my whole visit. Great for business travel, family for vacations, and large groups. I wish the location was more convenient to the heart of downtown Dc but it’s a 5 minute straight walk to the redline metro station. Always a great value for a busy metropolitan center like DC. I recommend the hotel.
Visiting DC after a snow storm is not ideal but the Hyatt Place made it all so simple and easy. Parking was insane because of the snow but the valet was very easy to work with and very accommodating. Bring cash to tip them because kindness is worth celebrating. The front desk staff was the friendliest bunch of people I've ever come across in DC. They were kind, thoughtful, generous and caring. Jermaine made check in seamless and the girl in the morning offered ideas of things to do in the area. They made the checkout and check-in for insurance stay an easy process. The GM store stopped to say hi on his way in for the day, I could tell he really cared about the guests but also his staff. Everytime I called the desk, they were helpful and accommodating. The gym was really useful and I hope that I can come back and check out the pool sometime. With the snow, deliveries were hit or miss, so having 711 and food spots close was really helpful. The Metro isn't too far, probably some street parking without snow and there's a day parking lot across the street but I found the valet worth every penny. Breakfast was surprisingly good and others guests were so friendly too. I would recommend to anyone staying in DC. I will be back! Especially for a bath!! Great shower pressure too! One negative was the room could have been cleaner!!!
I traveled with my family and had an extremely negative experience at this hotel. Upon entering the first room (704), we immediately noticed that the air conditioning was not working properly: the room was very hot, had a strong smell, and was extremely dusty. We therefore requested a room change. We were then moved to room 310, which was in even worse condition. There was dust in every corner, visible stains on the carpet and sofa, and rust on the towel rack, which clearly showed a lack of cleanliness and maintenance. It became clear that it would be impossible to stay the night under these conditions. We contacted Booking to request a refund, but were informed that the decision depended on the hotel manager. After spending some time trying to resolve the issue, the front desk clerk informed us that only the first night would be refunded, claiming that the hotel has a policy that does not allow refunds if guests remain in the room for more than 30 minutes — even though we did not use anything and were only there trying to solve the problem. In the end, we were unable to stay at the hotel at all. A terrible and extremely frustrating experience. I do not recommend it.
We had an incredible experience at this hotel. A huge shoutout to Andrew and Jerome, who were both so friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was always delicious nice and hot. Our room was excellent—clean, comfortable, great views of the city. The location is unbeatable for getting around; it’s only a quick five-minute walk from the metro, which made exploring so easy. The staff was so friendly would definitely stay here again!
We drove nearly four hours away the day after Christmas, as a surprise for our children. When we arrived, there was a mix up at the hotel that was out of everyone's control. The staff went far beyond anything I could imagine to accommodate us and make sure that we were comfortable and pleased. We visit DC at least four times a year and Hyatt Place Washington/DC Capitol will, without a doubt, be where we choose to stay from here on out. The staff is far beyond amazing as is the location and facility. I am thrilled and will forever sing their praises.
I don’t know why the ratings 3.8 but our stay was amazing! The hotel is beautiful. Perfect location! But the best was the staff! Michael the manager was so awesome on our arrival and every single person that worked there was amazing, kind, and friendly! They deserve 5 stars! I’d book there again for sure.
What an incredible place. The highlight for me is the staff! They are so friendly and knowledgeable. Anything that comes up they handle with such professionalism it is amazing. Personally, I enjoyed my room with a nice bed, couch to relax, and a desk where I could write about my adventures. The one thing I will knock the room on is that the shower is not fully sealed so water does get on the floor. The location is not in the center of things but the metro station is an easy breezy 5 minute walk. There are also some lovely restaurants around so if you want an easy night it's super nice. There was one hiccup with my stay and the staff handled it like the professionals you would dream of. Truly a phenomenal hotel!
