The Westin Washington, DC Downtown Hotel offers a good location for exploring the city and nearby attractions, with some rooms boasting beautiful views and comfortable amenities. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in service quality and dated facilities, particularly regarding breakfast, room maintenance, and lobby congestion.
This property has some positives and negatives. Location is great. I usually love a Westin for the comfortable bed, pillows, and linens. These seemed to be lacking at this location. I suspect it's because the hotel has become quite dated and is due for a refresh. The front desk and valet were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast service was slow, chaotic, and simply mismanaged. Staff appear to be poorly trained and overwhelmed every morning, even when it is not very crowded. Management appeared to be virtually non-existent with the excpetion of one morning out of four. If traveling for business, don't count on a quick breakfast. It often took up to 30 minutes simply to take out order and you must stop someone and ask for refills of coffee, if you even for the first fill. Worst breakfast service of any Marriott property that I have encountered.
Stayed at the Westin for an event across the street. The location is perfect. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are perfect for what I need. I had the street view in room 716 and it was also quiet. It has a gym by the elevators at ground level and a restaurant bar in the lobby. I went for a morning run from the hotel to the White House, Washington Monument, WWII monument, reflecting pool and the Lincoln Memorial. This hotel is within a few miles of the main attractions and easy walking distance.
Had a pleasant stay at The Westin. Our suite was huge, especially the bathroom. Staff were all excellent - especially the valet. They got our car in and out for us super quickly so we could get to where we were going. Very clean hotel, and comfortable. Two areas that could use improvement are that the rooms need some updating. One of our bathroom sinks was cracked, our door between the bedroom and living room didn’t close correctly, and there were bad scuff marks on the floors and doors in the bathroom. Also, there were a lot of escorts in the lobby. Every time we came in or out, we encountered them there or in the elevators. They weren’t causing a disturbance, but they were obvious.
Stayed here recently for a trip and had a fairly decent experience. Hotel was a bit tucked away, which was fine as far as not being in a super busy area. (There was a fair amount of tour/conferences going on at the property, so be aware of that.) Hotel staff were very nice as well from the front desk to the cleaning staff and the engineer that fixed my commode. Pros: Room was comfortable and reasonably spacious. There's 4 elevators so you'll be able to get around. They are key card access, which is ok if you feel "unsafe" in the area. Neighborhood is pretty quiet as well for being in a city. Cons: Room had some issues (toilet flush mechanicals broke, some of the furniture in the room had a nice layer of dust on it that I needed to clean off, and the towel hanger on the back of the bathroom door did a great job of dropping a towel on the floor no matter how you tried to hang it up) which I dealt with. TV in the room barely worked and seriously needed to be replaced. Food options are a bit limited, so unless you like hotel drinking you'll be going somewhere else to dine. Figuring out where to get a car service is a bit complicated with a hidden driveway that can easily be blocked by tour buses. Overall, depending on price, I think this hotel is a good option to stay in DC, esp. if you want to be in this part of the city.
Exceptional Service and a Perfect Room Rating: 4/5 Stars I recently spent a long weekend at the Westin Downtown DC, and it was an excellent experience overall. The absolute highlight of my stay was the front desk team. I was checked in by Ravi, who was incredibly professional and accommodating—he made the start of my trip seamless and welcoming. The Room: I was lucky enough to get a corner room, which I highly recommend. It offered a beautiful, serene view of the square and the nearby church. Despite being centrally located, it was a very quiet corner, which I truly appreciated for a restful night's sleep. Service & Housekeeping: The entire staff was professional, friendly, and went out of their way to help. After arriving exhausted and jet-lagged, I woke up at an odd hour and needed extra supplies. I ran into a member of the housekeeping team nearby; she was wonderful, quickly providing enough towels and toiletries to last the remainder of my three-day stay so I wouldn't be disturbed again. Amenities: The gym, while on the smaller side, was more than sufficient for a quick workout and was consistently kept very clean. Areas for Improvement: The only downside to my stay was a late-night visit to the bar. The service was just "so-so," and the food took quite a while to arrive. When it did, it was unfortunately lukewarm. Verdict: Despite the minor lapse in the bar service, the professionalism of the staff—especially Ravi—and the quality of the room made this a great stay. I would definitely return!
