The Marriott Marquis Washington, DC is a large, centrally located hotel frequently chosen for events and conferences due to its proximity to the convention center and Metro stations. While boasting impressive amenities like a substantial gym and a popular lounge, reviews highlight inconsistencies in service quality and room cleanliness. The hotel’s prime location and helpful staff are often cited as positives, but challenges with room upkeep and operational efficiency are recurring themes.
I’ve had the fortunate, or unfortunate experience of having stayed at 40 different hotels in the WashDC area over the last several months. Of them, the Marriott Marquis was my favorite for a few different reasons. One- of the Marriotts in the area, this one has the nicest lounge with the largest selection of food. The service is good and it’s open everyday. Two- for you gym-goers, this gym is, by far, the best hotel gym of all. It’s 2 floors of machines and when compared to an average hotel gym, is probably 6x larger. They got the normal treadmills, bikes, rowers, free weights, cable machines, and benches, but they also have less frequently seen hip thrust, smith machine, bicep curl, hip abductor, back extension, and squat rack. It’s located on the corner of the building that floods with natural light and feels very airy. Three- the location is very convenient for a lot of stuff. It’s next door to the convention center. Across the street from the very pretty Apple Store. A few blocks from Chinatown. And a few blocks from metro stations.
I had a cold shower called the front desk and didn’t get much in return for the complaint. Other than that I love this hotel. The gym is awesome. The location is amazing and the services they offer are fantastic. There’s a Starbucks on site. There are two restaurants and they gave me a $20 credit towards a food purchase which was awesome.
Highly mediocre at best, especially for the price. WiFi is $13 or $17 a day and barely works. I had to turn it off. Room was enough to get by but definitely not 4/5 star quality. Room was dirty. Hair in the shower. Trash in the closet. Tv wasn’t working half the time. Had to wait in line for the elevators. For a cheaper price this hotel would be fine. But absolutely not $500 a night quality.
Overall great stay, awesome location. If you’re feeling spicy the rental scooters or hike make it easy to get down to the monuments. Make sure to use bike lanes and stay out of restricted areas. Tried to get a burger from the steak house off the lobby. They only server burgers to go…. Would let me sit and eat it, good thing the lobby bar was great and had a grass feed burger that was great. The fries… eh. I would come back to this location for another stay. Heads up valet is not cheap bring cash to tip and make sure to remember to text the valet number ahead of time and they will have car waiting
The gym is INCREDIBLE! Probably best hotel gym ????? I've ever experienced. The rooms were nice and clean but I found the bed and pillows extremely uncomfortable. Maybe it is just me but that was the reason I couldn't give it 5 stars.
Call it an A-. It's a nice hotel and a Great location, but there's nothing more special about this than the other dozen hotels that are surrounding it. I didn't find a lot of amenities and it's more set up as a business hotel. I will say that the staff was exceptional. From the cleaning staff to the front desk clerks to the Bell desk, all of them were very friendly and attentive and worked very hard. It's because of the staff. I decided to give it five stars instead of four stars.
Awesome hotel, great rooms, but the staff is not at par with those qualities. I stayed here many times for major conferences/shows held at the adjacent conference center. Nightly rates are a fortune around those events. You expect smiling, attentive staff who are responsive to your requests and preferences when you are paying an outrageous nightly rate, but at the DC Marquis, I have been very frequently disappointed by the service. Best part about the hotel is the adjacent Dignitary by the way, awesome whisky selection.
Two night stay for work conference. Staff was great, professional and friendly. The food provided as part of our company conference was good overall. The room was comfortable, nothing stood out from other hotel rooms. The bar is nice, had a few drinks there, very friendly bartenders! Enjoyed my stay! Walking distance to several bars and restaurants.
It is a decent hotel, I want to me only two points: One is for breakfast payments. I have got a “breakfast included” reservation and on the check out they always add those back to the tap. They stroke it out when I said the breakfast was included. But why the hassle right. Second is for the destination fee. They charge an additional $35/day. I don’t know if it’s mandatory or optional. It was there on the tap. They mentioned it to be kind of mandatory , but I think I should have known about at the time of reservation not the check out.
A mess from the start Arrived at 5:00 p.m. to be told that the valet was full. He handed me a paper with six parking garages in the area and I ended up finding one that would take my car for an overnight stay and it was over half a mile away. The valet was rude about it and not helpful at all. There was no hot water in my room and the carpet was not vacuumed. There was no toilet paper I had to call the front desk. Starbucks had a 3-hour wait and was only accepting mobile orders and all of the food was sold out. The only reason why our gym stayed at this hotel was because it was advertised as being connected to the convention center. The security guard told me that that tunnel has not been open for years. The hotel is using that as full advertisement. After checking out we were told that the hotel would hold our bags but since there was United Nations meeting they went back on their word we were not allowed to leave our luggage there everybody had to bring it to the convention center and we were not allowed back into the hotel after 11:00 a.m. because there was this high security meeting leaving all of us in the rain. There was no communication given prior. As a blind boy member I expected to be treated differently and I honestly was not. This is a high-end hotel and it felt like I was at a motel 6. It was very expensive and just an awful stay. I will never stay here again .
