The Hampton Inn Washington-Downtown-Convention Center receives mixed reviews, primarily centered around its excellent location and friendly staff, particularly at the front desk. However, consistent concerns regarding inconsistent customer service, noisy hallways and rooms, and cleanliness issues persist across multiple reviews. Recent feedback indicates a decline in overall guest satisfaction.
Overall, pretty good hotel in a good location. Staff definitely could be a little nicer. Can’t even get a phone call in without being on hold for 30 minutes. Lots of attitude and poor customer service. The breakfast was mediocre at best, . The hotel is very clean and it’s in a really great location with a great view though.
Stayed here in February 2026. Unfortunately very unfriendly front desk. No thoughtfulness about people/tourists not speaking perfectly English. One of the gentlemen (older guy with glasses) was very disrespectful and did not even look at us while mumbleing something into his mask. When we politely asked him to repeat what he said, he was annoyed. We know understand the other reviews. It seems not be the first time, people complain about this particular "gentlemen".
Very good location for Convention Center events. I appreciated a good breakfast selection in the morning. One complaint is that the room doors do not reach the floor and there is a LOT of hallway noise that comes in because of it. Just people walking by having a conversation sounds like it is taking place in the entryway. It's especially annoying late at night when drunks are returning to their rooms and louder than usual down the length of the hallway.
Mr. Mike at the Hampton Inn truly went above and beyond during our stay. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. He was professional, friendly, and always willing to help with a smile. His exceptional customer service made our experience unforgettable. Thank you, Mr. Mike, for making our stay so special—we will definitely be back!
The positive aspects of this hotel were unfortunately overshadowed by a very negative experience with the front desk. I rarely write complaints, but the way my partner and I were treated was pretty upsetting. John, in particular, was extremely rude. At check in, which was our very first interaction with the hotel, a member of our party needed to use the restroom and was abruptly told that the bathroom was not for public use. When we explained that he was with us, John responded sharply and dismissively. I initially brushed it off, assuming he may have just been having a bad day. Unfortunately, the behavior continued. While checking out this morning, I stepped outside to load my bags into an Uber and having checked out, I no longer had my key card. When I approached the door, John waved his hand at me in a rude and dismissive manner, forcing me to explain that I had already checked out. I have stayed at many Hilton properties and have always had positive experiences, which made this stay especially disappointing.
The person who checked us in was really great. The room was decent. The continental breakfast was good. The location is great. Overall I'd consider staying again. The reason for three stars really came down to a super noisy heater, a slow drain in the tub that made it really disgusting to take a shower, the valet was pretty expensive, and they returned my car smelling like they had sat in there for hours farting. I had to febreze it a few times to get the smell out, and it smelled so bad the entire two hour trip home. So if you stay here, it's good if you don't have to valet, and make sure you test out the shower when you get in the room to make sure it drains properly.
Personally, the location here is very good. You're within walking distance of a delicious Chinatown, metro and buses easily take you to almost all the attractions you want to visit—a far superior experience compared to my previous stop in New York. If you're traveling with children and want easy access to all the museums, this is the perfect choice. The breakfast experience was excellent; they offer free breakfast and constantly replenish the food selection. It's best to arrive before 9:30 am to avoid crowds. There's a reminder in the room that they'll clean the room the next day, which I found reasonable. I suggest you to bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, and slippers. The valet parking experience was also better than in New York. I was overcharged for parking in New York, but here their pricing is reasonable. There's no difference in price between large and small cars; it's $50 for 24 hours, plus a $9 daily tax, and you can use the car anytime. This hotel perfectly concluded our winter trip. I have to say, there were so many museums; we'll definitely come back.
Excellent location with outstanding service. The front desk and valet staff were highly professional and efficient. My car was well cared for and delivered within minutes. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities.
The staff is exceptional. Our heater in our room was making terrible noise the 2nd day. We told desk by the time we came back that evening it was changed out. The ladies in the breakfast area are the BEST. EVERY PERSON WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON THIS TRIP HAS BEEN SO FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE. I felt very safe on the streets
We arrived at the hotel around 2 a.m. due to heavy traffic, hoping to get some rest after a long night. Although we were told the hotel was recently remodeled and nice, the room we were given was not acceptable. The bed sheets were in very poor condition — they looked scratched up, as if damaged by a pet — and caused itching on my skin, making it impossible for me to sleep. In the morning, I went to the front desk to request a room change. Unfortunately, the employee assisting me was extremely unfriendly and unprofessional. He avoided eye contact, kept his head down the entire time, and had a very unpleasant attitude. While he did change the room, he issued a key that didn’t work. I had to come back down twice, only to be told he couldn’t provide a working key, which left me unable to properly access the room — especially frustrating since you need a key to move around the hotel. This experience was very disappointing. Cleanliness and basic customer service are essential in the hotel industry, and this location fell short in both areas. The staff could benefit greatly from additional training in hospitality and guest service.
