Guests praise the Capital Hilton for its unbeatable location near the White House and central downtown DC, complimenting comfortable rooms and generally fast Wi-Fi. However, the experience is split by inconsistent housekeeping standards, an older property needing updates, and confusing 'resort fee' policies.

I gave the Capital Hilton four out of five stars overall. The hotel is in a really great location, just a couple blocks north of the White House on 16th Street, which made it easy to walk around downtown Washington and explore the area. There’s also a Metro station about two blocks away, so getting around the city is pretty convenient. The lobby is large and nice looking, and the hotel definitely has that classic big-city Hilton feel. My room was on one of the middle floors and was surprisingly spacious. The beds were very comfortable and the room had a sofa with built-in power outlets, which was actually pretty handy for charging devices while sitting down. The Wi-Fi was also excellent. It was much faster than the internet I’ve had at many other Hilton hotels, probably because of the downtown location. The view from the room was decent as well. It was a corner room, so part of the view looked out toward the intersection while another side looked into a courtyard area. The building itself has an unusual layout with wings that extend outward, so depending on the room you might see other parts of the hotel or rooftop areas nearby. It wasn’t a bad view, just a little unusual. Breakfast was the main downside for me. The restaurant itself was tucked away on the left side when entering the hotel, not in the main central dining area, so at first I actually had to ask where it was. The food was good, but the pricing felt high for what it was. What bothered me more was the way coffee was offered. The server asked if I wanted coffee before giving me a menu, which made it sound like it might be complimentary, especially since there is free coffee available in the lobby. Later I realized the coffee was about five dollars. It would have been much clearer if the price was mentioned up front or if the menu had been provided first. One nice perk was that the hotel provided a fifteen-dollar Lyft credit during the stay, which was useful for getting around the city. Overall, the rooms were comfortable, the internet was fast, and the location is excellent if you want to stay close to the White House and central Washington. The hotel itself feels a bit older in places, and the breakfast experience could definitely be clearer and more transparent. Still, it was a good stay and I would consider staying here again.

The hotel is very nice, comfortable, and well maintained. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it provides exactly what a business traveler needs for a productive and pleasant stay. I travel frequently for work, and it is rare to encounter someone as professional and genuinely dedicated as Frank at the front desk. From the moment I arrived, he was efficient, friendly, and exceptionally attentive — all while seamlessly multitasking and assisting several guests at once. At the beginning of the stay, I encountered an issue that could easily have disrupted my business trip. Frank handled it with calm professionalism and a clear commitment to finding a solution. He truly went above and beyond his role to ensure everything was resolved quickly and smoothly. His positive attitude and willingness to help made a stressful situation completely manageable. It is uncommon to see this level of service and care, especially from someone balancing multiple responsibilities at once. Frank represents the kind of hospitality that keeps frequent travelers coming back. The hotel is fortunate to have him at the front desk.

We had such a great experience at the Capital Hilton. Our flight was delayed and we ended up needing to stay an extra night, and the staff made the whole situation so easy and stress-free. The front desk agent Frank poku was incredibly kind. We truly felt taken care of. The service was warm, genuine, and accommodating, and it made our stay in D.C. even better.

Overall the stay was nice. The location was perfect for the staycation that I needed while celebrating a milestone birthday. The rooms however were not the cleanest when we first arrived with visible dirt on the bathroom doors and the ice maker needed to be cleaned. The rooms were nicely updated with a cozy living space. The staff and front desk service was amazing especially Frank (front desk) who assisted us with all of the amenities and perks of the hotel. I would recommend coming back for a nice hotel stay.

To the Team at Capital Hilton, I’m writing to share my sincere gratitude following my most recent stay. I’ve stayed at your property at least a dozen times over the years, and each visit consistently reinforces why I continue to return. The level of professionalism, warmth, and care — especially from your bell and valet team — never goes unnoticed. I want to particularly recognize your Bell Captain, Fedi Sarabia. His kindness and attentiveness truly stood out during this stay. I travel with my dog, Minnie, who is a failed service animal due to past abuse and can be very timid — especially around men. Fedi treated her with such patience, gentleness, and genuine warmth. Minnie does not usually warm up quickly, but his calm energy (and a few well-timed treats!) completely won her over. Watching that moment meant more to me than I can properly express. Your bell and valet staff — the hardworking men who are often the very first and last touchpoints of a stay — consistently provide such welcoming, thoughtful service. They set the tone every single time. Their professionalism, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond are a true reflection of your hotel’s culture. Please extend my heartfelt thanks to Fedi and the entire team. Their care makes a meaningful difference, and it’s a big reason why I continue choosing your property whenever I’m in DC. With kindness, Amber

When we checked-in to our hotel, Frank Poku welcomed us so warmly, like we were HIS family. We came in for a conference and had many needs: extra hangers, printing help, logistics of extending our stay and even needed help finding paperclips for a presentation. Frank helped us quickly, professionally with such sincere hospitality, something you don’t experience as often as we should! The rest of the staff was also kind and responsive. Thank you for making our stay so great

As a longtime Hilton member, I have never encountered an establishment that shows such a lack of basic fairness. This hotel charges a so-called “resort fee” that is difficult to detect during the booking process and comes with a confusing and poorly designed credit policy. To avoid any misunderstanding, I proactively called the front desk in advance to confirm whether the daily credit could be applied to a specific order. I received a clear and unambiguous affirmative answer. Despite this, my daily credit was not honored for the order. When I raised the issue with management, the credit was denied—even though they acknowledged that the situation “requires reinforcing clear communication around this benefit with our team.” More broadly, the policy itself feels petty and intentionally obstructive. In addition to the daily food credit, the hotel advertises a $15 daily Lyft credit but refuses to issue the credits upfront for a three-night stay. Guests must line up at an often-overcrowded front desk each day to retrieve the coupon—an unrealistic expectation for travelers on tight schedules. This is a familiar gimmick: advertise benefits, then make them unnecessarily difficult to use. The result is a deeply unpleasant guest experience that leaves a bad taste. If a hotel relies on friction and confusion to protect its margins, it should not be surprised when guests choose not to return. I strongly encourage the management to consider more transparent and elegant ways to build long-term loyalty. Making a guest’s stay intentionally difficult is not a sustainable business strategy.

I have no idea why this place has good reviews and people mentioning about friendly staff. Throughout my stay, the staff was very very very rude. Stayed at many Hilton hotels and never had this bad experience. The housekeeping was very rude, she knocks the door and then when I open, she disappears and later she comes back in the evening after almost 6 hours and then shouts at me saying she needs to go home and also comments bad things in her language how the room is messy and dirty, when I was in a very very very important meeting. The front desk was no less. They were very rude each time we called them for help which we never received. Overall very awful. The people posting positive reviews are the ones who are either settling in for less. Coming to the room, room was very average compared to all the Hilton hotels that I have been. Cleanliness was also not upto the mark.

I loved this place. I’ve been before and it’s still great. Rooms are clean. Staff is helpful and kind. Yes, some paint is worn or chipped and it can use some updating in places but the location is perfect and the beds are clean and comfortable. For us, it was Chanukah and I want to thank the doormen for making sure we could light our Chanukah candles safely outside. Very kind.

This hotel was the perfect home base for our DC trip! Everything was within easy walking distance, and the entire property was spotless and inviting. Frank at the front desk was absolutely exceptional—he went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were completely happy with our stay. Wan in the hotel restaurant was incredible too. He made sure our kids had everything we needed and was exceptionally friendly. Highly recommend!
