The Viceroy Washington DC consistently receives high praise for its exceptional service, stylish atmosphere, and convenient location. While some guests appreciate the boutique feel and upscale amenities, recurring issues include uncomfortable beds, inconsistent breakfast service, and occasional maintenance problems. Recent reviews highlight the exceptional friendliness of staff members like Hugo and Karen, but also point to operational challenges.
Very pleasant stay, with impeccable service. Room was large and clean, nice furniture and decor without any obvious or hidden wear and tear. Comfy bed, great bathroom (in my opinion). Really can't say anything negative other than I remember being vaguely unimpressed by breakfast, whether that was the hotel's fault or not I can't recall. Would stay again.
The bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept on — extremely hard and difficult to rest on. The AC had issues during most of our stay, and on the last night it didn’t work at all, which made it very uncomfortable. The maintenance guy was awesome guy. That said, the service was good and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We prepaid our stay via Amex travel so the hotel didn’t refund our money we had to leave before a winter storm. Keep that in mind
I would strongly recommend finding somewhere else to stay. We booked this hotel through AMEX, and the reservation clearly stated that complimentary breakfast was included. At check-in, we specifically confirmed this with the front desk and were told, “Yes, it’s included — just order what you like and it will be taken off at the end.” However, at checkout we were shocked to find a $160 charge for breakfast on our bill. When we questioned it, we were told the information we had received was incorrect — despite having a pre-check-in email clearly stating that breakfast was included. Being charged $160 for something we were repeatedly told was complimentary is unacceptable. The lack of accountability and inconsistent communication was extremely disappointing.
I had an excellent stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it. The staff were very pleasant, welcoming, and always available to help. A special mention to Hugo, who was incredibly kind throughout my stay. He was always smiling and extremely helpful, truly making a difference. Thank you to the whole team for such a wonderful experience — I will gladly come back!
Service was amazing from everyone. Great location less than a mile away from everywhere we had to go. Wish the rooms had a little bit more light felt too dark at times even with all the lamps on. Also can you make another option for smoothies for people with a nut allergy all the smoothies offered had them.
I had a wonderful stay at the Viceroy DC! I especially want to highlight Hugo at the front desk, he was absolutely fantastic. Always smiling, incredibly friendly, and very knowledgeable, he provided excellent recommendations for activities around the city. Hugo was quick to respond to any questions and always ready to help, making our experience even more enjoyable. The staff really made the stay memorable, and I can’t recommend this hotel enough! Very nice hotel in a great location! Stylish with seating space throughout the lobby area. It has a small cafe that was very nice in the morning. The rooms were bigger than expected and the beds were comfortable. There were little things here and there, the air conditioning was a little loud throughout the night and it took a minute to figure out how to perfect the temperature in the bathroom. But overall a great stay!
Chose the Viceroy for our family's annual DC Christmas trip. Booked through AMEX Travel with the Platinum card. Perks included a $60/day breakfast credit and a $100 credit since we stayed for multiple nights. We also took advantage of the 1pm late checkout since we partied hard our last night in town! The property has a boutique feel to it with lots of nice touches, including a reading nook in the lobby and a fire pit for those chilly winter nights. Our king room was spacious with a nice sized bathroom and a sitting area. I enjoyed the hardwood floors (think less winter static shock!) but obviously there was more noise output. Rooms have modern smart TVs, fridges and bathrobes - all things we appreciate. The only negatives were drafty windows and a small closet with limited clothes hangers. I also would recommend a recycling bin in guest rooms for cans and bottles. Housekeeping was on point and we left a small tip for timely service. We used our property credit at the hotel restaurant, Dovetail. They deserve their own review, but in short I'll just say we recommend their happy hour and that they exceeded expectations. The location was a 9/10. Not near the Metro but right on the 14th Street corridor with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. If you want to save on Ubers, there is frequent bus service on the D50 that takes you to the National Mall or the Waterfront (or to MacPherson Sq Metro). A few hours after we checked out, we noticed we had forgotten to pack a small bag in the room with over $100 in merchandise from the Washington Ballet. I called and got a hold of Moe at the front desk who was able to coordinate the retrieval of the bag, and he immediately called me back to let me know the good news. Thank you again! Top notch. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we'd love to come back in the summer to check out the pool!
We spent Halloween weekend in DC and the Viceroy was the perfect stay. It is located near everything, you can walk, ride the train or even Uber through the city. The staff was friendly, professional and accommodating for our needs. The room was nice, clean and a great size for a couples trip. They have an onsite restaurant and coffee shop as well. If you want to stay a chic, stylish and hint of luxury this is the hotel to pick. I would definitely stay here again when I visit DC.
A Sophisticated Retreat: Blending Modern Luxury with Old-World Charm ?From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew I had made the right selection. Traveling to D.C. for a business trip, my entire team and I were thoroughly impressed with the accommodations. ?I had the pleasure of enjoying happy hour at Dovetail, where the food was excellent, and the drink special offered fantastic value—a true highlight. The King Suite itself was a roomy and spacious retreat, complemented by a truly beautiful and well-appointed bathroom. ?As an admirer of boutique hotels, I loved how the Viceroy seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with its inherent old-world charm—a truly sophisticated touch. Should business or leisure ever bring me back to the D.C. area, the Viceroy will absolutely be my first and only choice.
