The Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - Natl Mall offers a convenient location near major DC attractions and the Metro, making it a popular choice for visitors. While the location and helpful staff are frequently praised, guests have noted dated rooms, uncomfortable beds, and occasional cleanliness issues. Recent reviews suggest some improvements in service and amenities, but persistent concerns remain regarding room quality and facilities.
Quite frankly, even though the hotel is a little dated, the people that served us went above and beyond, and the location is superb for going to all of the great things we wanted to visit while in Washington DC!!!! Our room attendant made sure everything was well stocked, and we never needed anything with her. Excellent care. They actually brought a microwave to our room because they did have one available and a comforter since my wife was a little chilly. Rarely do we have service this good. But I do want to stress the location of this hotel is the best reason to stay here if you’re going to walk to different museums.
Overall, it was a decent stay considering the price. The location is very convenient! Pros: AC works very well, and was on blasting when we checked in, even though it was very late (after 1 am). This was very appreciated. Also I like how it stays on even when you leave--I've stayed at hotels where it auto turns off after X amount of hours to save energy. The refrigerator also stays on all the time-- I've had a different hotel experience somewhere else where it was a "cooler " unit, and only cooled for a few hours. You had to press a button to start the cooling process again, meaning you couldn't store any perishable food in it. Pillows are comfortable. Cons: bed wasn't too comfortable. Maybe I'm just spoiled. Coffee maker had old water in it from a previous customer. We did not want to take chances and had to skip using it. Hand soap (and lotion) were locked on the wall, quite far from the actual sink basin. It was annoying to wet my hands first, then drip water all over the counter (that had our stuff on it) to just apply hand wash. Plus, it didn't pump very well, so sometimes I had to pump multiple times just to get enough for my hands. My partner's bedside adjustable light (by the pillow) must've been used enough to wear it out, for it did not hold the bend anymore. My side was fine. Wish there was an additional blanket for the bed. I get cold when sleeping, and I was shivering in the night. My partner was fine with the provided bedding. The hotel should be able to accommodate multiple types of sleepers, though. The walls are thin, so occasionally we could hear people in one of the nearby rooms when they were talking loudly. There is a train track nearby, if loud noises bother you. I have a train track behind my house so I didn't care at all. Also a side note, if you are expecting to take home any remaining shampoo/lotion/soap, don't. They're locked onto the walls in bigger bottles, refilled by the hotel. I'm guessing this is to save business expenses, but I've never seen this before and felt a bit jipped out of my hotel experience.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol – National Mall, and the location is definitely its biggest advantage\. It’s conveniently located within walking distance of the Smithsonian museums and other major attractions, making sightseeing very easy\. Unfortunately, our stay didn’t quite match our expectations\. We were assigned a room on a lower floor, and while the room was spacious, it looked quite dated\. The upholstery appeared worn out, which made the room feel less well\-maintained\. There were also a few inconveniences during our stay\. The coffee machine wasn’t working, there was no shower gel provided in the bathroom, and the hotel didn’t provide basic cutlery\. We also found the lack of room service disappointing\. Considering the price we paid, we expected a more comfortable and better\-maintained room with improved amenities\. While the excellent location is a major plus, the overall experience didn’t offer the value we had hoped for
During our Amtrak Southern Appeal tour visiting four different cities, we stayed in the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - National Mall for our visit to D.C. The hotel is in a prime location to access all of the historical sites and tourist attractions. Within walking distance of some places and an easy access to Uber pick ups and drop offs. My family member and I had a beautiful suite with a sitting area and bedroom that was a standard queen. The sitting area had a pull out couch making it even easier for us to separate our space. The room and bathroom was clean, we were on the second floor and our window looked out on the rooftop deck that could be accessed. The first night there were people on the deck playing music and talking, but they left around 10:00 ish, which is when I believe the 8th floor deck became accessible to overlook the city. Even with that, the noise level was not a problem and the deck is a beautiful area. We didn't need service other than checking in and out which was done quickly and courteously. We also had a Walmart delivery drop off that we had no issue accessing once delivered. The one issue I had, which I am not deducting stars because it didn't negatively impact my visit since we had access to a pull out bed, was I called for a roll away bed, which I was told at check out I could call for if needed. This was before realizing the couch had a pull out. When I called the person was very courteous, but when I stated what was needed, I was told I could come downstairs and get it. Huh? I thought I was told it would be brought up, needless to say I was not planning to go get it, but in the end it wasn't needed. The atmosphere in the area and the hotel was active with areas where you were able to get away. The breakfast was a full buffet that was delicious was excellent service from a restaurant within the hotel and the 21st Amendment restaurant was also in the hotel making dinner easy to access. There was also a Starbucks accessible in the hotel. Staying at this hotel made moving around D.C. really easy for these visitors.
The location of this hotel cannot be beat! It is so close to the National Mall, the L’Enfant Metro Station and the DC Southwest Shuttle Bus which made navigating around the city possible without driving through DC traffic. The front desk staff was welcoming and kind! They even had little event for hotel guests on July 3! Last stay we overlooked the Virginia Railway Express and this stay we overlooked patio seating connected to the lobby. We enjoyed both rooms. However, it was quieter this most recent stay due to not being right up against the train tracks. We also appreciated the water filter fill up at the water fountains by the bathrooms. We were also happily surprised to find some DC themed shirts that stalls on the street in DC had been charging almost double for! We purchased one for each member of the family on the trip. There is some visible wear and tear on the popular hotel. The fire alarm went off during our stay multiple times on our floor. Also, one elevator went in and out of service throughout our stay. Personally, these are not dealbreakers for me due to the location and kind, attentive and efficient staff that make up for these other things. I plan on returning to this hotel for my next trip to DC! ?
Wonderful! The room was so clean and the housekeeping was thorough. I couldn't have been happier with how considerate they were of my large group I came with. My favorite thing was the pep talk from the management at breakfast. It just brightened everyone's day :)))
Stayed for a week. Very close to the Mall, just two blocks. Rooms are comfortable. The Grill was very good with great drinks and simple food. The front desk was ok. Some very rude people, but not all. So it depends on one's luck who we encounter. One person behaved as if it's always somebody's fault for everything. It has a very nice and big patio. One can even smoke, eat or just hang around. All in all very good experience and we will certainly choose this place. Very safe area to walk. Very family and pet friendly place. The location is the Best thing going for this place.
Can't beat the location! Hotel is conveniently located to museums, national mall, Capitol buildings, trolleystop, and train stops. Easy walk to all!! Rooms are clean and well stocked. The breakfast and dinner restaurants were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. A special SHOUT OUT to Lu at the front desk and Josephine in the Café! They make you feel right at home and made our days!!! True hospitality!!
Good budget option for travel to DC. The staff here is fantastic, quick response to any issue. We had a problem with the room refrigerator and someone was up to fix it in 5 minutes. Later that night another issue where the water in the shower wouldn't cut off. While they couldn't fix that, they did try and then transferred us to another room that had zero issues. There is a snack area that sells essentials, drinks, small pharmacy type items and quick foods. It's open 24 hrs and you pay for everything at the little side window. On the 2nd floor is a decent coin op laundry facility with a working coin dispenser and you can get soap, softner and dryer sheets here too. 9th floor has a pool and workout room. Elevators are fast but you do have to use room key to access them. The daily housekeeping staff are on the ball too. Everything is nice when they leave.
This Holiday Inn was the best I've ever seen and been to. The room was amazing it could have been better in 0 ways it was perfect. The view amazing was right in the middle of D.C. Check out my other review on The National Mall it got us there and around in 30 minute walk. The transportation was good to there was E-Scooters for a fair price. Taxi for affordable price and if you want a better hotel you're not getting one. 5 star review.
