The Holiday Inn Washington Capitol - Natl Mall, an IHG Hotel offers a convenient location near major attractions, a decent selection of amenities, and generally friendly staff. However, reviewers frequently cite issues with dated rooms, uncomfortable beds, and inconsistent service. While praised for its central location and quick staff response times, some guests report cleanliness concerns and outdated technology.
Wonderful! The room was so clean and the housekeeping was thorough. I couldn't have been happier with how considerate they were of my large group I came with. My favorite thing was the pep talk from the management at breakfast. It just brightened everyone's day :)))
Stayed for a week. Very close to the Mall, just two blocks. Rooms are comfortable. The Grill was very good with great drinks and simple food. The front desk was ok. Some very rude people, but not all. So it depends on one's luck who we encounter. One person behaved as if it's always somebody's fault for everything. It has a very nice and big patio. One can even smoke, eat or just hang around. All in all very good experience and we will certainly choose this place. Very safe area to walk. Very family and pet friendly place. The location is the Best thing going for this place.
Can't beat the location! Hotel is conveniently located to museums, national mall, Capitol buildings, trolleystop, and train stops. Easy walk to all!! Rooms are clean and well stocked. The breakfast and dinner restaurants were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. A special SHOUT OUT to Lu at the front desk and Josephine in the Café! They make you feel right at home and made our days!!! True hospitality!!
Good budget option for travel to DC. The staff here is fantastic, quick response to any issue. We had a problem with the room refrigerator and someone was up to fix it in 5 minutes. Later that night another issue where the water in the shower wouldn't cut off. While they couldn't fix that, they did try and then transferred us to another room that had zero issues. There is a snack area that sells essentials, drinks, small pharmacy type items and quick foods. It's open 24 hrs and you pay for everything at the little side window. On the 2nd floor is a decent coin op laundry facility with a working coin dispenser and you can get soap, softner and dryer sheets here too. 9th floor has a pool and workout room. Elevators are fast but you do have to use room key to access them. The daily housekeeping staff are on the ball too. Everything is nice when they leave.
This Holiday Inn was the best I've ever seen and been to. The room was amazing it could have been better in 0 ways it was perfect. The view amazing was right in the middle of D.C. Check out my other review on The National Mall it got us there and around in 30 minute walk. The transportation was good to there was E-Scooters for a fair price. Taxi for affordable price and if you want a better hotel you're not getting one. 5 star review.
Stayed here for Valentine’s, and let’s just say the room I got wasn’t exactly what I booked—blame Priceline, not the hotel. The staff was friendly, everything was clean, and it worked… just not quite the romantic vibe I was hoping for. The best part? Breakfast! You had to pay a little extra, but the sweet lady working there—she said she’s in her 70s and still going strong—offered to comp us. Absolute gem. She deserves a standing ovation.
This has been a nice place to stay. Beds and rooms are clean, staff is helpful, but bring water and snacks. It's 4.15 for one bottle of water and no refill stations. No stores near the hotel so they have a monopoly. Breakfast is buffet only and 27.00 a person. Restaurants close on Sat and Sunday so I definitely feel nickel and dimed. UPDATE: I found a water dispenser near the back elevator with good water and there is a pizza place and McDonalds connected. The pizza place is excellent.
Spacious rooms for a great price! We traveled with our grandchildren and all staff were friendly to the kids. We ate breakfast each morning, the buffet was fresh and had a good variety. We ate at the 21st Amendment, where the kids ate free, the menu was limited, but the food was tasty. The kid’s meals were very plentiful. Overall a great experience.
Location is great for the museums, not so much for food especially breakfast and dinner. You need to walk or catch a ride over a mile if you want something to eat other than McDonald’s at night. Staff was all great, helpful with anything and everything! The one real issue with the room was the beds. They were like sleeping on a board. I inquired with the wonderful staff and they got me a mattress topper quickly, but it still wasn’t comfortable.
This is a perfect example of getting what you pay for. The rooms are much cheaper than other nearby hotels, but the experience suffers. I don't think this hotel has been updated in a VERY long time, and that is really starting to show. They need to remodel. The beds were horribly firm and uncomfortable. I couldn't sleep at all the first night. I think these are old mattresses as well. Walking up you could see the carpet had stretched and was piling and loose. The bathroom wasn't cleaned properly. I literally found bits of food on the walls of the bathroom; very gross. Paint was old and chipped. The electrical outlets were too loose to properly hold a phone charger and several wouldn't create a closed electrical circuit; this feels like a fire hazard. The room was equipped with an alarm clocked that used the iPhone port from 2012!! There were rust stains in the tub. The drawers wouldn't stay closed in the dresser. On the up side we had no issues with parking, service was helpful and prompt, the metro is close, there is a Starbucks in the building, and while we didn't try the food in-house, others seem to like it.
