The Watergate Hotel offers a historic and luxurious experience in Washington D.C., boasting impressive rooftop views, a saltwater pool, and a prime location near major attractions. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistent service, cleanliness issues, and communication breakdowns, impacting the overall guest experience.

Great service! Fun place to stay for a night and all the staff was super friendly. Great rooftop views and yummy bar snacks on rooftop that included mushroon flatbread. The kingbird was also a great choice for a meal since we were too tired to leave the room.

I’m honestly shocked by how disappointing our experience at The Watergate Hotel was. For a hotel that presents itself as a luxury property, both the condition of our room and the level of service were unacceptable. Our room smelled strongly like wet dog, did not feel properly clean, and the AC was not working correctly. On top of that, communication between departments was terrible. We had an issue with valet not being charged to our room, and instead of anyone simply resolving it, valet told us to speak to the front desk and the front desk told us to speak to valet. We were literally being sent back and forth because the staff apparently could not communicate with each other. Unfortunately, the attitude from the front desk made everything worse. Jessica in particular was extremely rude and dismissive toward us. Even something as simple as asking for a business card was met with a visibly annoyed facial expression and an unnecessarily rude tone. Throughout our stay, it genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing staff simply by asking for assistance. I do want to acknowledge Judit, the Guest Experience Manager, because she personally made an effort to accommodate us and was one of the few people who seemed concerned about our experience. Unfortunately, one person trying to make things right cannot make up for a dirty, uncomfortable room, poor communication between departments, and consistently rude service. When you are paying Watergate prices, you expect a certain standard of cleanliness, professionalism, hospitality, and basic courtesy. We absolutely did not receive that here. I would not stay at The Watergate Hotel again, and based on our experience, I cannot recommend it. There are far too many great hotels in DC to spend this kind of money somewhere that makes its guests feel like a burden.

Was surprised to be in a room that had a full wrap around balcony, two bathrooms, and a living area. There was a lovely soaking tub, robes, and a record player fully outfitted with music of the mid 20th century. Great view from the rooftop. The salt water pool, sauna and hot tub are all well maintained, making for a luxurious experience

Fine. The rooms are small but the bathroom was great. Linens & housekeeping were great. Concierge was missing most of the time. Valet parking only- calling down early for your car only partially worked. Most times they’d say oh when you say you called 15 mins ago ?. Only one or two people on staff at front desk. Resort fee & tax added on to each day. Had no idea until we checked out. Location on the river is great but hotel not close to much of interest so you’re driving or taking a taxi! Outside of hotel is very tired & old. Needed a power wash outside the main entrance.

This hotel exceeded my expectations, and I absolutely loved my stay. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout my visit. The location was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the monument and easy access to plenty of restaurants and attractions nearby. The valet service took great care of my car and made everything convenient. One thing some guests might notice is the frequent airplane traffic day and night, but I personally loved it. Watching the planes from my balcony was one of my favorite parts of the stay. Overall, the combination of excellent service, great views, and a convenient location made for an amazing experience.

Disappointing experience. Booked for 4 nights, for a work trip that involved some work in the room and on call time. The TV didn't work for the first 3 days, and the toilet ran the entire time I was there, making it hard to sleep. Staff was polite, but in the room for 90 minutes trying to fix the problems unsuccessfully, as they would stop the toilet from running, but not fixing the root problem that caused it to run immediately after it was flushed. After 2 days I asked for a new room, which they could not do because they were booked, so they offered me a dining credit. I called for room service the next morning to confirm the credit was there and ordered breakfast. They of course still billed my credit card and did not provide the promised credit. I ended up leaving a day early from my stay so I could go home a get a good nights sleep. Multiple phone calls and lots of time on hold, no manager on duty, still haven't reversed the charges. I wouldn't stay again.

So I’m rating it a two because everyone was very nice and the room was very clean. But there’s definitely a lack of communication within the hotel. When we got there I explained we had a spa package and they told me to make an appointment quickly because they’d be booked up. I wasn’t aware I had to call the spa separately so I think that clarity would be important. My partner and I are both sober and ordered mocktails at the whiskey bar and I was served a drink with tequila in it. I’m in recovery so you could imagine how that made me feel. I then spoke to the GM about getting a meal or two off my bill and that didn’t happen, the bill states all of the meals even though I was promised otherwise. Then with the spa package we had a 3pm checkout, the personal at the front wasn’t aware of this but then we had it sorted out that we’d check out at 3. Between 12-2 at least 3 people came into our room because they weren’t told about the late check out. The food was good at the restaurants but the fact I was served alcohol was beyond upsetting and no one knew about the spa package was frustrating.

My family of 4 enjoyed the hotel very much - it is just beautiful inside. It was a great location, and they had a storage area for our bikes. The staff members were very pleasant and accommodating to our needs. The room was clean and nicely decorated - we had a balcony that overlooked the courtyard. It was odd that they did not have trash bags in the trash cans, but we made do. It would have been nice to have some space in the mini-fridge for our own stuff as well. It was stocked with drinks. We took out a few to use the space and put them back in when we left. The bed was comfortable. We used the pull-out bed, but we had to call down for linens first. Otherwise, it was wonderful. The pool and fitness center are in the basement. The pool is a saltwater pool kept at 80 degrees F. The sauna and hot tub were nice to relax in. It closes at 9pm, and I would have liked for that to have been a bit later (10 or 11pm?). Overall - I highly recommend this hotel! We enjoyed our stay very much.

What a perfect location. Nice walk to the area dinner and breakfast. Don’t ask where we went to eat you got options. Room was so comfortable and the shower was nice. Yes I am grown and came in late. The curtain to keep the light out was a welcome addition to allow me to sleep in. The check in lady was so nice and give me active ideas. I sorry I did get her name but Bryan at check out was also polite and nice hold bags until we ate breakfast. Oh check out the roof top. We sit in the lobby but the roof was a nice filled with men active.

I loved staying at the Watergate. Every staff member was immediately friendly, welcoming, and asked if there was anything they could help with or do for us. We got so many helpful suggestions from the staff to help make our trip easier while moving around DC for a few days. We were allowed an early check in the day we arrived. On the day we left, we were not due to be at the airport for almost 6 hours after check out and we wanted to go to a museum during that time, so the staff were kind enough to hold our luggage in a secure area at concierge after we checked out, so that we did not have to drag all of that around with us to the museum. The hotel is clean and beautiful. The spa is calming, clean and the pool area is clean and there was no crowding. We had no issues with noise coming from other guests and no interruptions during the night. The restaurant is very pretty, the food is amazing, and the staff remembers your name, even if you are only there for a few days. (I loved George, he was one of the first encounters we had from staff and he was so nice). This is the best hotel I have stayed in around the DC area, probably the best anywhere and I'll be a return customer in the future.
