The Courtyard Washington, DC/U.S. Capitol receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising the friendly staff and convenient location near the metro. However, numerous reports detail significant operational issues including persistent noise from nearby trains, inconsistent room cleanliness (including smoke and mold), and difficulties with amenities like hot water and parking. While exceptional staff members like Mo and Marquette are highlighted, broader concerns regarding hotel maintenance and guest experience raise questions about the property’s overall quality.
I’ve stayed in many different Marriott properties and this was easily the worst experience. All staff I interacted with at the front desk and the bistro were unhelpful and sometimes rude / passive aggressive. The toilet flush in my room was not working properly and their engineer looked at it and decided it was working fine leaving it to us to figure out how to get it work - which is unacceptable for a so called “3 star” hotel. The room was unmaintained and furniture showed wear. The location of the hotel itself is not great. There’s a train station right next to the hotel and there is no noise insulation so you can hear the trains from the room. The food at the bistro is average at best and highly overpriced. They didn’t have basic amenities like a dental kit. Would not recommend.
The hotel was amazing the staff was very friendly but Mo the mixologist really took care of me. He ensured eveything was up to par especially my drink after a long day in court he really took special care of me. The food, the coffee eveything he always everything was great. i highly recommed that every guest should stop by Mo's bar on the lounge floor he make the best old fashion in the DC. He know how to just make you feel like family. Not only him interacting with all the employees they are just so happy and friendly its just amazing says alot about the management as well.
I recently stayed at this location for a work trip and had a very impressive experience. The front desk staff were kind, and the hotel was very clean. Rooms were more spacious than I expected; overall, positive experience. Our favorite part by far was having dinner at the Bistro with Mo! He had such great energy and made us laugh, and clearly everyone else there also appreciated him, as evidenced by the many regulars who knew his name and hung out at the bar. I cannot speak highly enough for the exceptional service Mo provided, and I hope he gets the kudos he much deserves.
Had a nice stay. Very convenient to the Metro. Overlooks the tracks going into Union Station. The windows are pretty soundproof but very light sleepers might be awakened by the trains going by. Would stay again.
Room smells like smoke even when confirmed it’s non smoking. You can hear everything. Train is loud if you’re located on an odd number side of building. Wouldn’t recommend not even for quick weekend trip for just showering and sleeping. Staff are all friendly and nice and understood my concerns and why I wanted to cancel. Location is close to Union market with quick food and convenience stores near by.
I came to DC for an important test, so I really appreciated having such a clean and comfortable room. The staff was wonderful, and everyone provided great service. A special thank you to MONAEM, the bartender. He was very attentive and delivered exceptional service. He truly made my stay even better.
My First Time At The Capitol And I Must Say This Experience Was Ratchet As Hell. I Heard The Reputation Of This Area Was Upscale And Boujee I’m Trying To Understand Where That Was Because This Was Not It At All. Upon Check In We Were Not Told That There Was Not Any Hot Water In The WHOLE BUILDING. I Have Never In My Life Stayed In A Hotel With Zero Access To Hot Water. I Had An Early Leave Due To A Flight So Literally My Whole Stay Was Hot Water Free. They Didn’t Offer Anything Not Even A Sorry For The Inconvenience. Never Again And Will Never Recommend. How This Is Affiliated With Marriott I Have No Idea. Genuinely Disgusted.
Check in is at 4 but we got there around 12pm and were able to access our room immediately which was great! The woman at the desk was also very nice. Good location but wouldn’t go back because our room smelled like cigarette smoke and was so gross and dirty (oil/grease on the headboard, hair on the bathroom floor, dust everywhere, white socks turned brown just from walking in the room). No we didn’t bother complaining because we were only there for 3 days.
Check-in is at 4pm but my flight got me there by 10am. So the waiting for a room started out bad. The king room was very nice and spacious. Loved it being next the NOMA Metro, 7-Eleven, Subway, 5 Guys & Dominoes Pizza. Marriott Ambassador Marquette is hands down the best part of this Marriott location. His superior customer service & engagement is the sole reason why I will be staying there again on my next D.C. work trip in April. ??
This hotel is struggling with people smoking pot on the premises. we stayed for four nights and had to move rooms twice due to the smell of pot seeping in to our room. Staff were apologetic, but if you are sensitive to this, you will find staying at this otherwise fine hotel deeply problematic.
