The Hilton Alexandria Old Town receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding billing errors, room cleanliness, and responsiveness from hotel staff. While some guests praise the location and friendly service, numerous reports highlight issues with outdated rooms, sanitation problems, and frustrating customer service experiences, specifically with billing disputes and lack of flexibility. Recent reviews indicate a decline in quality and a need for improved operational practices.
Horrible experience! Last month we stayed at the Hilton for an event for three nights and upon arrival the Hilton staff double charged my credit card. They said it was a glitch in their system and that they will correct the mistake BUT instead of doing that. The charge was remained in our card balance. We had been working with our card holder company for over a month to resolve this issue. Hilton has NOT been responsive, we called the front desk and billing team and no one has been helpful or even bothered to returned our calls. Just today we found out from our call holder company that Hilton claimed the double charge is valid and that we booked two rooms...which is completely false. Again this is due to the glitch they experienced but instead of resolving this and communicating with us. They make up a bogus claim... This will be the last time we stay at the Hilton. If they can't fix their mistakes and then try to make the customer pay for...it's not a brand worth dealing with...
As a frequent traveler and Diamond member/HGV Club owner with Hilton, this is my top pick for a fun Alexandria stay. We stay here frequently- we ride the Amtrak up north, walk across the street, enjoy the evening, then metro to the airport. This hotel is cozy, at the top of King street (close to Amtrak, metro, and a big bus hub), which brings you less than a mile to the water front- a walk that is only made even better as you walk through historic Old Town. We were greeted by the restaurant manager who was kind and friendly, communicated any specials and items on the menu that have changed slightly. Rooms were dark and quiet, surprising given the proximity to the metro! Beds were warm and cozy. TV worked just fine (we watched the Lions lose). We will return next time we want to stay in Alexandria. Come out and visit so we can enjoy the restaurant with you! These recent one star reviews feel fake or improperly informed. The beds were comfortable, shower/bath worked just fine, and there isn’t a pool so I don’t know what that one guy was talking about. Sounds like the other person didn’t have travel insurance or book the right room so they could cancel without a charge. Travel better/smarter and don’t blame the hotel for your issues. Another traveler frequently rates hotels and restaurants low for “rude staff”- honestly, I’m wondering if that is a cultural thing and maybe that reviewer is rude to the staff. Be smart about what reviews you read and who you receive info from.
We have stayed here several times. Good location for train station access to Washington. A short walk into town. The rooms and hotel in general are a little tired and in need of a refresh. But then the pricing reflects this. Might stay again or might pay the premium and be closer to main St.
My Girlfriend booked a few nights recently at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town hotel as we have stayed here quite a few times before. Our flight got cancelled unfortunately out of New York hence we tried contacting the Hotel front desk to notify them, we tried calling over approximately 25 times over the span of the next 2 days and no one answered. Than Hilton honors tried and still no answer. We finally got a hold of Sherri Cooper the Manager or General Manager who said that she would definitely refund our monies after she stated it would reflect after a few bussiness days. The money was never refunded, very unprofessional on her part. We contacted our credit card company as well and they stated that this Hotel is declining to refund your money. We will never come back here. Thank You Sherri for keeping your word. As a Gold Member we have never been treated this way at any other Hilton Hotel.
Outdated rooms. One tv didn't work also fridge made a clicking sound the entire time. pool had cloudy water and looked unsanitary as well as the dirty tile floors arpund pool which were super slippery and unsafe. Breakfast was good and lobby area was ok . Other then that I wouldn't recommend. Also parking is $40 a day for the hotel garage you would think it would be free. Will not be visiting again
We checked with my wife into the hotel on October 29th. Our first room no. 326, had torn and dirty bedding. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, and we couldn't use the A/C, because also the smell was coming from opening the A/C. Around 10 PM on Friday night, October 31st, when we took shower, my wife and I had to bathe in a pool of dirty water because the tub drain was completely clogged. When we called the technician, he explained that we had to vacate the room and that the tub could not be repaired. Instead of apologizing, the receptionist gave us a new room, acting as if she were overpaying. At midnight, we had to pack all of our luggages and move back to the new room, no. 544. Most interesting think the tub of the new room was also clogged in room no.544, We had to shower in a pool of dirty water for three more nights. I didn't call the technician because I was fed up with this hotel and its inadequacies. On the day I checked out Monday 3th Nov, I conveyed all my concerns and complaints face to face and true whatsapp messagge to the assistant manager, Adam. I explained that I had paid the hotel in full and that they had provided absolutely imperfect service in return. Although he promised to get back to me at max 5:00 PM on the same day, he absolutely did not. Our moral damages were not compensated in any way. I choose this hotel because I was trusting the Hilton brand. I definitely do not think it deserves the Hilton brand. Assistant manager Adam has photos of the bathtubs in both rooms, filled with dirty water, on his WhatsApp. He didn't even respond as promised. We paid in full for a 6-night stay for a perfectly clean and functional room, but in return, we had to stay in a dirty, broken-down room.
We came to this hotel for a school trip to DC. We had a really nice room with a good view of the train going by. For our school we even had a dance on our first night and a dinner. We got breakfast every morning. But the food was not very good the dinner tasted like nothing and our breakfast wasn’t the best. But over all it was great.
My wife and l stayed at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town 1767 King Street. for 2 nights from the Thursday the 2nd and 3rd of October. We booked through Club Wyndham. To celebrate my wife's 61st birthday. We were very disappointed. No water in our room and then asked to pay $6 for a small bottle of water. A bad smell in the elevators and room. No swimming pool or leisure facilities. No parking for a larger vehicle. We were made to find and pay for public parking 30 minutes walk away. Which we walked from with our luggage. We told Wyndham staff. No solution was offered. No alternative accomadation offered. No parking sourced, just a shrug of the shoulders. But Wyndham then tried to hard sell us ownership and they we're upset when we turned them down. Very poor. Very poor service. Disappointing and we will be amazed if anyone reacts to our feedback, just as they didn't at the time. Mark and Patricia Charters
An awesome location with friendly staff and great vicinity to tourist and travel spots. My sister and new brother in law hosted here with great success. From check in to check out everyone was helpful and attentive. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfy. For the reception dinner and party after, Ashli and crew really hit it out of the park. The food was really good, and everyone had a great meal. The servers and bartenders were helping all over and helped us keep the party going. The reception room itself was perfectly sized for our group and Ashli lead an amazing effort to decorate which showed all over. Our family had an amazing time, thank you Ashli H. and team for making it all the more special.
Poor reservation customer service. I made an error (I own it) and had to cancel the day of my (incorrect) reservation date. They helped me cancel the incorrect reservation (even received email confirming) and booked my correct dates of travel. Two weeks later, the original room shows up on my bill. Had to call back during hotel hours to speak directly to the property’s staff who only could say “I’m sorry, there is nothing I can do!” Why offer to cancel a reservation at the time and then not remove the charge? I have stayed at the property in the past, but likely will explore other nearby options from now on. When I have stayed, the quality/service made the home2 I stayed in this past weekend look like a premium resort.
