The Churchill Hotel near Embassy Row consistently receives positive feedback for its spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and convenient location near Dupont Circle and various attractions. Guests frequently praise the staff, particularly Deborah Lofgren, who is described as exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, some reviews note occasional issues with cleanliness, noise, and unexpected fees.
We chose this hotel because it suited our needs perfectly, and we have no regrets about staying here. The rooms were very large, which made our stay incredibly comfortable, and having a 24/7 reception desk was highly convenient. While it is a bit of a distance from the National Mall and not a walkable trip, the price of the hotel was reasonable enough that we could easily budget for an Uber or taxi to get to the sights. Breakfast is served a la carte rather than as a buffet, and it comes with juice or coffee, which was a sufficient and enjoyable way to start the day. The staff could have been a bit politer, but it did not negatively impact our stay. Overall, it is a good, reasonably priced hotel with spacious rooms.
I stayed at the hotel for a month on business. I was pleasantly surprised by the members of the staff. They all did their best to make me feel at home. In particular Richard who works the bar, restaurant and seemingly every other job in the hotel was excellent. He is extremely service oriented and went above and beyond for me and other guests time and time again. Richard is a great and responsible employee. The hotel is great and I would stay again.
I stayed at The Churchill in early March. I have to say, I knew of Deborah before I even got there, from the reviews. Much to my surprise, she was actually at the front desk, when I arrived. I can't tell you how wonderful she is. From check-in to check-out, she is a phenomenal force. She handled everything I needed and more. She gives each person her PERSONAL BEST. She doesn't get riled or anxious if there are a number of people needing her assistance; she treats everyone with kindness, respect and patience. She is friendly, kind, patient and quite efficient. I enjoyed my stay immensely, was thrilled with the history of the room and hotel. It was just what I was looking for and close to sights and food venues. I will visit again. We need more Deborahs; she is a great leader and very knowledgeable. Other employees were wonderful, as well. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in DC. Thank you for everything. The only downside was a daily fee for historical purposes, which I was not aware of or informed of from the booking agency so was taken aback when I saw the charges. However, that was also handled to my satisfaction.
Had a great stay at the Churchill — it's in a solid spot, just a short walk from Dupont Circle, which makes getting around easy. Check-in was smooth and the staff were genuinely welcoming. The hotel has a lot of character with unique décor and art — the kind of place that actually feels distinct rather than another interchangeable hotel experience. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the stay as well. The room was spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfortable, which at the end of the day is what matters most. Would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in DC.
From walking in the door, the concierge Deborah Lofgren was AMAZING…The hotel Is conveniently located and the staff is very accommodating.y room was spacious and clean and the shower water pressure is GREAT… I give this hotel a 5 star. They really made the stay enjoyable. If you’re coming to Washington DC I recommend the Churchill Hotel and ask for Ms Lofgren…
Front Desk Supervisor Deborah was very accommodating when I brought forward some challenges I was experiencing during my stay. She was pleasant, friendly, and demonstrated great follow-through to ensure everything was addressed properly. Travel can be very frustrating at times, so it’s especially nice to encounter people who are still genuinely willing to assist and make things right. Her professionalism and attentiveness truly made a difference in my experience.
I had a wonderful stay at the Churchill Hotel. The property was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere made my stay very enjoyable. I especially want to recognize Deborah at the front desk. She was absolutely outstanding—friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. From check-in to answering questions during my stay, she went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Her kindness and attention to detail truly made a difference and set the tone for a great experience. I would definitely recommend the Churchill Hotel and look forward to staying here again. Thank you, Deborah, and the entire team, for such excellent service!
My stay at the hotel was great!! Staff at the front desk were friendly/ professional and accommodating for any request I had. Location of the hotel was very convenient for all the activities we planned worked out well. I had a small feedback for the sink the water does not drain well and the bathroom . Over all stay was great and so was the location. I would give it 5 if it wasn’t for the bathroom issue
A very nice hotel, very helpful and nice staff. There was an issue with toilet, they were very open to any option to make me feel welcome. Eventually i didn't want to change my room, so they did fixed it on the spot. Check it and out was very smooth. I had the don't disturb sign on the door, no one knocked. Housekeeping saw me leaving the room and asked if I would like my room to be cleaned. I had could shipments, They handled it very well.
My second stay here. Beautiful historic property in one of the best neighborhoods in DC. Plenty of retail and restaurants are walkable just South on Connecticut. Convenient street parking that’s free Saturday into Sunday (just pay attention to signs). Warm welcome at check in. Room was clean, comfortable. Lavazza coffee available in the room and lobby 7-10am. Nice sized bathroom stocked with towels. Fridge if needed. Only ding is walls are thin so you might hear neighbors. Lots of hard door closes but that’s the guests. $30 amenity fee. Reasonably priced for the value. Would return a third time.
