Conveniently situated in the heart of downtown DC, this hotel offers easy access to the National Mall and numerous attractions, all within walking distance. The property is meticulously maintained, with comfortable, clean, and perfectly quiet rooms that make for a restful stay. The on-site gym is well-appointed, and the complimentary breakfast is wonderful. This has become my go-to destination whenever I’m in town, and I’ve already booked three more stays for the upcoming year. I see some reviews questioning the safety of the neighborhood. Let me simply say that that neighborhood is about a safe as it GETS in Washington DC. It's a major American city--not Mayberry. With all of the restaurants and bars, it's both well-lit and well trafficked. I walked to the hotel and back from the train station in perfect safety and comfort--and I walk all around the area at night. I've done it with my children too and feel no concern whatsoever. Ignore the few cranks suggesting otherwise.

Moved here from the AC Hotel Nat’l Harbor to be closer to sights to see before leaving town. Both are Marriott properties; this Fairfield was the best price I could find on short notice in the area. Compared with the AC, which is newer, I prefer the Fairfield. Fairfield is ‘old’ (still has a bathtub which is a plus for me) but clean and well-maintained. At both hotels the furniture is all laminated which feels cheap. In addition to what others have said, I offer these comments: 1. Ignore the wall thermostat; use the controls in the window-mounted unit and everything works as expected (there’s a surprise heat wave at the moment). The AC hotel unit routinely did whatever it wanted to and the room was hot and stuffy. I think it has a proximity monitor. 2. Free coffee and breakfast in the lobby! Compared to AC where they charge $3 and it’s only available during the $18 breakfast. Sadly, the coffee at Fairfield is only drinkable if you like extremely dark/strong/bitter brew. The room has the same drip one-cup maker as the AC and they only provide 1 regular + 1 decaf (the plastic trays with the coffee bag). No tea provided in the room but several varieties in the lobby. Not enough sugar or creamer but ditto, so visit the lobby before putting on your pajamas. 3. I have all the expected appliances and they work fine (microwave, safe, refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, TV). There’s another microwave in the elevator lobby on my floor. 4. My room is next to the elevator but it’s quiet. No noise from the one room next door. Elevators are old, slow, dim, and no indicator of where they are, but they get you there. No room card required to get to your floor (cf the AC). 5. Breakfast was extensive but very American (waffles, powdered eggs, egg sandwiches, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, apples/oranges/bananas, only 2 kinds of yogurt-like stuff). Paper plates and plastic ware. You won’t starve or get food poisoning, but it’s not a particularly pleasant experience. Not crowded when I was there at 8:30 on a Tuesday. Choice between watching Fox News or CNN. Not a lot of breakfast or coffee options that I noticed in the neighborhood. 6. The Irish pub/restaurant was good, very friendly and not crowded. Better than most hotels. The AC did not have room service so if you’re arriving late from Europe, either eat at the airport or put up with snacks from the lobby. No wine or beer; the AC has a bar, but no alcohol at the Fairfield except the pub. 7. I walked around the block at sunset and although parts of it were rundown I didn’t feel particularly unsafe. It’s an arena— don’t expect gracious buildings and fab restaurants. It’s a short walk from the Gallery Place/Chinatown (yellow line) metro.

We had a great stay. We were in town for a concert. It was a perfect location to get late night eats, easily accessible to transportation, and the breakfast was amazing. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The best part was the valet parking. Shimelis and the other morning parking attendant were very attentive which contributed to our family having an exceptional experience.

The experience aligns closely with expectations for a mid-tier, select-service brand: efficient, standardized, and primarily optimized for short urban stays rather than extended comfort. The downtown location remains one of its strongest assets, offering practical access to key areas without the friction of heavy congestion. ?? The check-in process is streamlined and professional, with minimal wait time and clear communication. The lobby is relatively compact, with moderate seating and a steady flow of guests. It functions more as a transitional space than an activated social area, with limited dwell appeal. I stayed in a queen-size two-bed room with two low-teen children, which provides a useful benchmark for family suitability. The sleeping arrangement itself is comfortable and adequate for four guests, but storage capacity is a clear limitation. Hanging space, in particular, is insufficient for a family traveling with winter clothing, requiring some compromise in organization. Standard in-room features include a work desk, television, coffee/tea setup, and a compact fridge more suited to light use than extended storage. Lighting and switch placement are functional, though not especially intuitive or advanced. From a sleep-quality perspective, the bed offers medium firmness and consistent support. Blackout curtains perform reasonably well, limiting external light, while soundproofing is acceptable for a downtown property—occasional hallway or street noise is perceptible but generally not disruptive. ?? Temperature control appears stable, though system specifics are not overtly differentiated from typical centralized hotel configurations. Breakfast follows the expected Fairfield model, likely complimentary, with a modest selection focused on convenience rather than breadth. The dining area is moderate in size but not large, which becomes a constraint during peak periods. During high season, the space can become crowded, and families may find it difficult to secure seating together—timing becomes an important factor for a smoother experience. ? Overall, the property delivers consistent, brand-aligned performance. It is best suited for business travelers or short-stay visitors prioritizing location and reliability. Families can be accommodated, but should anticipate spatial limitations—particularly in storage and breakfast seating—and plan accordingly.

We stayed at this hotel out of convenience to the Capitol One Arena and I was pleasantly surprised! It was very clean, rooms were more spacious than I had expected and the valet driver Shimelis was very kind. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you're looking for a hidden gem that won't break the bank. I will definitely stay here again!
