The Kimpton George Hotel receives mixed reviews, with many praising its friendly and helpful staff, particularly at the front desk, and convenient location. However, concerns regarding room conditions, cleanliness, and unexpected fees are consistently raised, particularly regarding outdated facilities and issues with room amenities. Recent reviews highlight a struggle with website booking errors and unexpected charges.
I could not be more disappointed with the lack of help this hotel provided me. On march 6th I booked a room directly through the website online. My check in date was for the 20th and check out was for the 21st for two guest. When I received the confirmation right after I confirmed everything was indeed correct online. The confirmation read the check in date and time as the same day and time I had just booked it. When I called to cancel or modify it almost immediately they refused to help me because I have to do it within 24 hours even though I had JUST booked it. As I am on the phone I went back online and tried to rebook. Again I confirmed the dates and number of guest and again it was not correct online the confirmation. I mentioned this to the on duty manager and told him that the website is indeed NOT working properly and he blatantly told me it’s working fine and I will be charged the full about for being a no show. I have disputed these charges with my credit card company. However the Kimpton hotel has lost a long standing customer from here on out.
I recently stayed at the Kimpton George in DC for an extended visit, and the staff truly made the experience exceptional. The housekeeping team was fantastic — always warm, welcoming, and consistently greeted me each day. I was traveling with my two dogs, and they even took the time to compliment how well-behaved they were, which I really appreciated. The front desk team was equally impressive. John, Marcel, and Sydney were all incredibly kind and professional. Sydney especially stood out — she always acknowledged me, checked in on how my stay was going, and made it easier to be away from home. I have IHG status and stay at a lot of hotels, and this is one that genuinely makes me want to come back. Highly recommend.
The room was very cold and the lobby was freezing. I felt bad for the people who worked at reception desk because of the frigiid temps. The reception desk personnel were friendly and helpful. I've stayed at a number of Kimpton locations in the past year, and this one has a great location but it has not been maintained very well and generally is not what I'd expect from Kimpton. I'm usually a Hotel Indigo customer, and the style of this hotel seems to fit more with that brand, but again, the hotel needs a general upgrade. Everything is a little shabby.
Really nice hotel. Booked a 4 night stay in Jan 2026. The front desk clerks were very hospitable and offered several suggestions to make my stay more enjoyable. Thank you Marcel and Soloman. Nice, clean hotel. Housekeeping was excellent. I had a few issues with the shower head not staying up and the drain was slow draining. I let staff know and Eric came and fixed it right away. They do offer valet parking, and there is also a self parking deck across the street. Rooms are comfortable, great water pressure, etc. I will return soon.
SCAM! This reviews have to be fake .. because the only thing about this hotel that was 5 stars are the staff (shout out to Cindy front desk ?and the black guy who was 6'7 helping with the bags? I should have asked for his name?) Other than that "NOT WORTH THE MONEY"! 1. You have to pay an extra $100 a night for a refundable damage fee. Be warn because they didn't disclose that during booking. Thank God we have it to spare. I just wish they would include that in the price of booking .. so everything is taken care of. Because image people who thought everything was taken care of and boom... Your hit with fees? 2. The parking fee is $60 A NIGHT FOR VALET.. ? please go across the street to the parking garage that charges half the price. (They should also let you know this upfront not after you book ? 3. Be prepared to see homeless ppl sleeping either on the side of the entrance or just around the hotel. ? It was so cold and I went and got them soup because what a world . 4. The only pictures that looks valid are the one for the lobby... When you get to those rooms that's a different world. Once we took the elevator up to our room we were immediately hit with a sour porter John smell.? Apparently there is no ventilation in the bathrooms.? So if your stomach has the bubble guts you're going to smell everybody's stuff because there's no vents in the bathroom or ventilation in the room. The bathroom counter was holding on its last leg with nails sticking out and it looks like they use a closet rack to hold it up. I have pictures and I've cry laughing at the thought I paid $168 plus dollars for this bs! Also there's NO microwave in the room (we had to go all the way to the lobby to use it at the front desk ??(so if you think your going to relax with left overs after a night of celebration..nope! Get back on that elevator and go downstairs and you better pray no one is in line to use that ONE MICROWAVE.. but Cindy the front desk lady was an angel... She talked to us and just calmed our spirits down. The other black guy poured us wine and he was such a gentleman. ?? Also breakfast is grab and go...? For the price everything should have been free.. 5. This hotel is easily worth $60-$80 a night.. it's the location ( downtown area) you're paying for and the Beyonce horse in the window ?? I really hate that this company is getting over on ppl but just be warned. I give this hotel a 2/10! The staff is the heart of the hotel. Not the amenities or price . Never again and we drove 1600 miles for this ?? ITS NOT WORTH IT.. ??
I spent 2 nights at this hotel to attend meetings in DC. For the location, the price is reasonable. It is an older building but I thought that the room was clean and well appointed. The bathroom was large and had both a stand up shower and a separate bathtub. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The hotel wifi was free and worked well. I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff. They were pleasant and helpful. They have a happy hour every day where you can have a free glass of wine (and/or whiskey on Wednesdays). They have a 24 hour fitness room with some weights and cardio equipment. The location is very convenient if you have meetings on or near Capitol Hill. I would stay there again.
We had a wonderful stay with my daughter. I love the room with a King bed, a couch and a great desk. The bathroom was spacious and overall a super comfortable experience. We were surprised by the quality of the to go breakfast. Very dedicated and polite staff. Effortless. The location was wonderful. A few blocks from Union Station, so easy to catch the subway. I highly recommend it.
I was surprised, because they were missing some amenities -- even some basic ones. My room had no overhead lights - only several lamps you had to individually turn on. There was no overhead shower head - just a handheld shower head with not that much water pressure. The breakfast is extremely minimal - pretty much just muffins/sandwiches you have to microwave yourself. No milk. A charging port was broken. Some compliments - the bedding was good and cleanliness was fine. They do have good service, like offering free water and bike rentals. Location is good - but as a tourist I didn't actually need to be next to the National Mall, being near a metro station sufficed. You can tell that it's an older building, and management is doing a great job for the property they have. My stay was definitely fine. But it wasn't as comfortable as I wanted.
While the cleaning crew was exceptional and incredibly kind, the rooms were very clean and in a good location, the condition of the hotel does not match what’s shown in photos or described in reviews. The place smelled musty, even the shower water carried a mold-like odor reminiscent of old water pipes, which was concerning. The beds came with flat, unfitted sheets, so whenever we pulled the covers, the entire set came undone, leaving it to bunch up and wrinkle throughout the night even after numerous attempts to tuck the sheets under the mattresses. The in-room phone was nonfunctional despite attempts to fix it (the guy that came to repair it was so wonderfully kind and apologetic ?) , and the internet connection was very choppy. In general, the rooms felt outdated—not with a charming historical vibe, but simply tired and worn.
Bed Bugs- Travelers beware! This hotel says it’s 4 stars but I found it to be rather weathered and with zero amenities despite the &38 daily fee. Upon returning home, I found out there were bed bugs as well. A huge disappointment as well as a nuisance for myself and my family. I chose this hotel in hopes of having a good business stay in town.
