The Kimpton George Hotel is a centrally located property near Union Station, offering convenient access to Washington D.C.’s attractions. While praised for its friendly staff and excellent location, many reviews highlight the hotel’s aging infrastructure and dated rooms, with concerns about cleanliness, maintenance, and a lack of modern amenities. Despite positive comments about the location and helpfulness of certain staff members, there are persistent issues regarding room conditions and basic hotel services.

I got a room for the day because it's close to the train station, so having a spot to drop bags and shower before heading home is great. This hotel is really close to Union Station and the staff are really friendly. It doesn't compare to the Conrad, which is where I always stay, and it's roughly the same price, but if you're looking for a room close to Union, this is it.

The staff were incredibly friendly. Pet friendly and child friendly. Awesome location. I came for a work trip and they always had my car ready quickly. Will definitely return. Special thanks to Adam at the front desk and Solomon our valet for the fast and stress free checkout.

Stayed at The George recently on a work trip from the UK for around a week. Summary is it was good but the hotel is tired and had some minor issues. The Good The rooms were very well sized with plenty of space to spread out. Bed was lovely and very comfortable with great soft pillows! Desk was nicely sized with built in sockets and USB charging and the bathroom was well sized with a shower and separate bathtub. Vanity and mirror were huge and lots of space to keep toiletries. Coffee maker and minifridge worked great and there was plenty of room in the wardrobe with a robe and ironing board included. Housekeeping were great and cleaned the room whenever I needed including restocking the coffee machine supplies, providing new towels and remaking the bed. The front desk were always on hand to help whatever the hour and generous with the snack supplies and the wine hour, even giving us a glass of wine later in the evening when we (slightly cheekily) asked after a late night! The hotels location is fantastic being a 10 min walk from Union station for Amtrack and Metro services and a 15 min walk from the Capitol campus. Rest of DC can be easily reached via the Metro from Union Station. The not So Good The rooms while comfortable and pleasantly decorated were noticeably tired. Fraying carpets in the main part of the room, chipped cabinet doors and faulty USB sockets on the desk were quickly noticed. The desk drawer had partially broken meaning if you pulled on the left knob it would come off partially. There weren't any ceiling lights in the main part of the room only lamps, while it worked it was a tad annoying to have to turn on four different lamps to light my room each night (and to turn them off if I got into bed comfy and forgot one). The hallways and elevators weren't air conditioned leading to a stuffy environment when you left your room. On the topic of AC, the room AC worked very well BUT it really was loud. In some modes the compressor would make a very loud clunk that could easily wake someone sleeping. The hotel has a holding charge deposit which wasnt a problem, mine was $500 but my colleague who also paid $500 for their deposit was accidentally charged a double holding deposit. Not a very good look given the already high cost of the deposit. Finally, I had extended checkout on my last day at 2pm but this wasnt communicated to housekeeping. So I was disturbed twice while getting ready and packing on my final day by housekeeping wanting to clean my room. When told I had a late checkout at 2pm they seemed sceptical but left me be. Again, not a good look and the first time I've been bothered by housekeeping repeatedly. Overall, a decent stay in a very great location but a tad overpriced for what you get. Staff were lovely and very attentive but the lack of a bar/restaurant is keenly felt. The decor of the rooms needs a bit of work such as replacement of carpets and repair of some furniture/facilities. Communication needs to be worked on as late chechout should have to deal with frustrated housekeeping who havent been told the room will still be occupied for an additional two hours past the regular checkout time.

Adam and everyone we interacted with were phenomenal! Adam went above and beyond to help us out! We had a rental scooter and they helped us out with transportation and everything! The rooms are nice. Updated with plenty of USB and outlets to charge electronics. Awesome location. Just blocks from the Cspital, Union Station, Supreme Court, Library of Congress and so much more not far away. Overall, highly recommend!

The experience at the Kimpton George was good. The employees were awesome, especially Solomon who was literally a helping hand throughout the time of my stay. I would've broken a few nails getting my stuff out of my truck. Also the manager was great, although I forgot her name, but she was amazing also. The area was fine, it wasn't too chaotic. The valet was a great option especially since everyone takes a Uber anyway. But it was time well spent here.

One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Checked in and John at the front desk was wonderful, we requested a quiet room and he put us in the corner on the top floor. It was silent! We couldn’t hear any street/neighborhood/hotel noise at all. Beds were very comfy with lots of pillows. Bathroom had a large, separate bathtub which we enjoyed. Location is perfect for site seeing with an amazing coffee shop and burger joint just down the block. We went to DC for a concert at NW Stadium and the hotel is just a few minutes walk from the metro station we took to get back when the show was over.

My stay at the Kimpton George Hotel in Washington, DC was a refreshing and seamless experience from start to finish. Check-in was quick, easy, and handled with professionalism, setting the tone for the rest of the stay. The room was clean, well-prepared, and comfortable upon arrival. Everything functioned exactly as it should, the refrigerator worked properly (a welcome change), and the internet was fast and reliable throughout my stay. It’s clear this property is well-managed and attentive to the details that truly impact a guest’s experience. A smooth, stress-free stay in every sense. I would gladly return.

We had a very disappointing experience at Kimpton George Hotel. On our first night, we arrived around 8 pm and the front desk already seemed badly understaffed. There were around a dozen people waiting, and for about 10 minutes no one was properly attending the desk. After we finally got to our rooms, things got worse. Calls to the front desk for basic items like towels and body wash kept going unanswered, so we had to go downstairs in person. We also asked if there was a microwave to heat some takeaway food, and instead of having a normal guest-use area, staff had to bring one out from storage, which felt very inconvenient and disorganised. The most serious issue was that both rooms assigned to our family had broken heat. One room’s HVAC turned on but never produced warm air, and the other room’s unit would not turn on at all. Engineering came multiple times, but one room had to be changed after we had already unpacked, and the other could not be fixed that night with no suitable replacement room available for the family staying there. That meant the elderly and the children were left in a cold room late into the night and had trouble sleeping. We ended up spending about three hours of our first night dealing with front desk delays, engineering visits, and room changes instead of resting. For a hotel in Washington, D.C. charging these rates, the level of maintenance and service was far below what should reasonably be expected.

I could not be more disappointed with the lack of help this hotel provided me. On march 6th I booked a room directly through the website online. My check in date was for the 20th and check out was for the 21st for two guest. When I received the confirmation right after I confirmed everything was indeed correct online. The confirmation read the check in date and time as the same day and time I had just booked it. When I called to cancel or modify it almost immediately they refused to help me because I have to do it within 24 hours even though I had JUST booked it. As I am on the phone I went back online and tried to rebook. Again I confirmed the dates and number of guest and again it was not correct online the confirmation. I mentioned this to the on duty manager and told him that the website is indeed NOT working properly and he blatantly told me it’s working fine and I will be charged the full about for being a no show. I have disputed these charges with my credit card company. However the Kimpton hotel has lost a long standing customer from here on out.

I recently stayed at the Kimpton George in DC for an extended visit, and the staff truly made the experience exceptional. The housekeeping team was fantastic — always warm, welcoming, and consistently greeted me each day. I was traveling with my two dogs, and they even took the time to compliment how well-behaved they were, which I really appreciated. The front desk team was equally impressive. John, Marcel, and Sydney were all incredibly kind and professional. Sydney especially stood out — she always acknowledged me, checked in on how my stay was going, and made it easier to be away from home. I have IHG status and stay at a lot of hotels, and this is one that genuinely makes me want to come back. Highly recommend.
