The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising the excellent service and central location, while others express concerns about dated rooms, inconsistent cleanliness, and unexpected fees. Despite positive comments about the staff and overall atmosphere, several reviewers highlight issues with room conditions and operational inefficiencies.
Decent hotel, less busy than the Westin next to the Conference Center where my associates stayed. Spacious suite showing some age with peeling wallpaper and dated furniture. Loud at night with the sounds of the atrium bar right outside the window/sliding glass doors. The thing that took another star off was the lack of understanding of how to apply a federal tax exemption certificate, used everywhere I’ve stayed on business for my not for profit company. Throughout numerous attempts, they would not accept the certificate and charged my business tax. Was in town for a conference with several associates, also with the same tax exemption certificate that their hotels had no problem applying. One of them being the Westin at the conference center. I will say that the bed and pillows were comfortable.
An impressive and memorable stay. The comfort, cleanliness, and service quality were all exceptional. The property was well organized and maintained, creating a stress-free and enjoyable experience. Everything worked perfectly, and the overall atmosphere made the stay truly pleasant.
I had a wonderful stay at the Westin Washington, D.C. City Center, and Barry and Iyana truly made the experience even better. Barry gave excellent recommendations and helped guide us in the right direction during the storm, which we really appreciated. His professionalism, friendliness, and local knowledge stood out. Iyana also went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of throughout our stay. Her kindness, attentiveness, and positive attitude made a big difference and did not go unnoticed. On top of that, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the beds were especially comfy—perfect after a long day in the city. Overall, a great stay with outstanding service. Highly recommend, and special thanks to Barry and Iyana for their outstanding hospitality!
I was very disappointed with my stay at the Westin City Center DC and expected much more from a hotel that claims to be 4-star. We booked a King Room, which was extremely basic and honestly felt more like a 2-star hotel. The sheets had multiple visible stains, which was unacceptable and made the room feel unclean. While the location is great and the staff were generally polite, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor transparency and noise issues. At the time of booking, there was no mention that the lobby was under renovation. Only after the booking was confirmed did we receive an email about it. I immediately called to cancel, but the manager assured us there would be no dust or noise during our stay. That turned out to be completely untrue. Around 7:00 AM, there was loud construction noise—hammering and what sounded like wall demolition—that made it impossible to sleep. We called the front desk, and the noise stopped for about 30 minutes, only to start up again shortly after. Overall, this stay was very frustrating. Between the poor room condition, misleading information about renovations, and early morning construction noise, this hotel does not live up to the Westin name or a 4-star rating. I would not stay here again.
I had a generally nice stay at the Westin Hotel in Washington, DC. The hotel was comfortable and well maintained, and overall the experience was pleasant. However, I was disappointed by an unexpected charge related to package deliveries. I ordered a few items online from Amazon during my stay, and I was charged around $10 for each package delivered to my room. This was not clearly communicated in advance, and the extra fees added up quickly. Aside from this issue, the stay was good, but I believe the hotel should be more transparent about package handling charges to avoid surprises for guests.
While this hotel feels a bit dated, it’s in a great location and has a truly exceptional staff. Sadly I feel that it’s greatly diminished due to the national Westin chains transition away from down bedding to what feels like a Walmart polyester equivalent…Westin used to be known for its “Heavenly Bed” now it feels like something you’d get at a 2-star hotel…clearly a cost cutting action which makes me no longer prefer to stay at Westin hotels
John, GM so sorry I missed the window for the survey, thank you for reaching out I hope this review will suffice! The Westin DC City Center has been my primary hotel for DC Travels for the last 10 years. I feel like I'm home when I stay there at this point lol. When I tell my friends I'm coming into DC they already know where they can find me! I came in town for my birthday and The Boy is Mine concert on 11/30. The guest service team suggested Kitchen + Kocktails for my birthday brunch and it was a fantastic experience. I did have two grievances with the room, one of which you all declared an emergency and apologized for via email. The other was the bedding. I hadn't pulled the sheets back before returning at the end of the night. The sheets looked terribly slept in. At this point I think the masses know to expect that the sheets are not changed with every guest, but this was obvious. The sheets were turning in color. It could just be time to get new bedding inventory, but I had to get out of my head about it in order to fall asleep. Otherwise, friendly staff, beautiful lobby, great walkability.
I recently stayed at The Westin Washington D.C. City Center, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. I had a lot of fun throughout my stay. The food was genuinely excellent—fresh, flavorful, and far better than the average hotel dining experience. My room was amazing: spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was heavenly, and the overall atmosphere made it easy to relax after a day exploring the city. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive, which made the stay even better. If you’re visiting D.C. and want a place that offers comfort, great food, and a memorable experience, I highly recommend The Westin Washington D.C. City Center. I can’t wait to come back!
The Westin DC City Center is the best hotel I have stayed at in the city. Yes, the building is dated, but the spirit of the staff is very much alive and present. Katie B., the Front Office Supervisor, is always a delight to see and talk to. She takes pride in her work and pride in her property. The same thing can be said for the F & B Staff at the hotel bar, especially for Barry, who remembers all of his guests and makes sure to make every single one feel special. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!! If you are willing to overlook some minor age related issues in the rooms for top notch service, this is the hotel for you!
I only have 1 complaint and the rest is perfection: There’s no swimming pool. There’s above average fitness facilities and not one swimming pool which, by the way, is fitness. It doesn’t need to be fancy and have lanes or a hot tub with it, but PLEASE add a swimming pool (preferably with a ramp going in and out of it since some wheelchair users I know prefer that over using pool lifts). Attached photo is an example of what a pool with a ramp might look like, it is NOT a pool at the hotel.
