I’m not sure what’s behind some of the lower reviews, but Hotel Nell was absolutely gorgeous. From the moment we walked in, the décor felt modern, chic, and edgy, creating a welcoming and upscale atmosphere. Our classic queen room felt the same! The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, and we were pleasantly surprised to receive several complimentary drink tickets. We also checked out the Treehouse Rooftop, which was amazing! The ambiance, views, and overall vibe were top-notch. The drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. A special shoutout to John, our server, who provided outstanding service and made our experience even more enjoyable. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I booked through a 3rd party(Hotwire). It stated I would get a Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton or Westin brand. This resembled neither of those. The room was not the cleanest, had stains on the bathroom floor. Outside of the room it was parking that caused biggest stir. I was charged $45 to park after I was handed a parking pass for the hotel. The desk clerk mentioned nothing about the price of parking or if it would even be a fee. I explained to the guy when I was checking out and all he said was “oh, well you’re checked out now”. It was no sense of ownership or accountability for the issue. This all came after before I was able to park I was instructed to go park in a parking garage for 3 hours(while it was free) and that they would let me know if a spot came available so I can park. All in all the experience was not the greatest to say the least. Best part of the hotel was a bar upstairs. It was pricey but the drinks were good. Safe to say I would not recommend nor would I return back for another stay.

This is perfect for a one night stay. My husband and I stayed in a queen room and it was small but overall tidy and decorated nicely. The biggest complaint is that the hotel lobby itself is impossible to find at first for out of towners. There’s limited signage…not to mention, the closest parking is a garage kind of far away unless you pay extra for parking in their parking lot (no parking pass or any sort of discount was offered). The staff is kind but we felt as though it could have been helpful to know the best way to bring our luggage in, things to do in the area, etc. Some reviews we read prior and hoped would be addressed were not, like the TV not working nor any mention of why. It was also very easy to hear everything outside like cars, honking, and people talking. The room was okay, although we kept finding long dark hairs around the room, shower, etc. We enjoyed the Treehouse restaurant and drink coupon that’s were given, although staff told us that without a reservation we’d have to sit outside or at the bar and it was pushing 90 degrees. There were seats open inside the whole time we ate and even when we left. We stumbled upon Union Market down the road which was fun and also offered lots of food, coffee, and dessert options.

I had a great experience at Hotel Nell, the staff were very warm and inviting, the atmosphere was PEAK, I felt like I could sit in the comfy lobby they have all day. The room was very cute and warm, some people will complain about the rooms being small but I honestly felt like it gave it a more comfy and homey vibe. The only “complaint” I have is there was no mini fridge which is common in hotels, but honestly it wasn’t a problem and I was just as happy without it. I came up to DC for a concert and after I got out of the concert my fiancé and I were very excited to go back to our comfortable room. I can happily say that this is the only hotel I will be choosing on my future trips to DC. Thank you Hotel Nell!

Absolutely recommend giving Hotel Nell a try if you like boutique hotels. Small rooms but very clean and comfortable overall. Rooptop Terrace restaurant and bar is a nice touch. Breakfast was good in the restaurant near the lobby and lounge area. We were able to easily walk the 1 to 1.5 miles to Union Station Amtrak, US Capitol, Supreme Court etc. while enjoying the Union Market district with lots of restaurants, shops, etc. along the way. Staff was very friendly and accommodating as we able to do an early check-in with no hassle. Would definitely stay again during another DC visit.

A truly exceptional experience. The property was clean, quiet, and very well maintained. Every interaction with the staff was positive and professional. The room offered great comfort and attention to detail, making it easy to unwind. The entire stay felt effortless and enjoyable from beginning to end.

I had high expectations for this stay, but unfortunately it turned into one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had. I booked three nights and ended up leaving after the first night because the conditions were simply not acceptable. The room did not feel clean or well maintained, and overall comfort was very poor. The space was tight, the bed was uncomfortable, and there were noticeable maintenance issues that should have been addressed long before guests arrived. Noise was another major problem. It was difficult to rest due to the lack of sound insulation and the general atmosphere around the property. When you’re traveling—whether for work or with family—being able to sleep comfortably is essential, and that just wasn’t possible here. For the price paid, including additional fees, the experience did not match the cost in any way. I made the decision to move to another hotel rather than continue the stay. I truly hope management takes steps to improve the overall cleanliness, maintenance, and guest experience, because in its current condition, I would not choose to stay here again.

I generally refrain from leaving negative reviews; however, it is necessary. How should I begin? The only positive was the front desk attendant during our stay, which we cut short from 3 days to only 1 night, and moved to a different hotel. This hotel critically requires improvements. -The beds are exceedingly small and uncomfortable, unsuitable for two occupants. -The walls are as thin as cardboard, allowing you to hear everything upstairs, downstairs, and next doors. -The televisions are defective. -The bathrooms were not properly cleaned, with old bodily fluids present. -LOUD Music playing until late hours without regulations (A hotel not appropriate for families). -AC was set to 80, could not lower it. A furnace at night. -Dirty beds.

I agree with my friend, and after spending time reading through other reviews, I felt it was necessary to share my own experience as well. I stayed in a two–twin-bed room, and the total space was approximately 120 square feet. Once both beds were in place, there was almost no room to move. The layout felt poorly planned and extremely tight, to the point where basic comfort was compromised. The beds were mounted on very basic metal frames, paired with low-quality mattresses and one thin pillow per bed. Sleeping was uncomfortable, and I woke up with stiffness and discomfort. Due to the lack of space, the mini fridge was positioned next to the bed and essentially used as a bedside table, which says a lot about the room size. The bathroom offered no relief. The shower was a very small corner unit, roughly 2x2, enclosed by a fabric curtain, giving it a temporary, budget feel. Honestly, the only real distinction from a hostel was the use of white bed linens. Another major issue was the air quality. The room was extremely dry, to the point where it felt uncomfortable to breathe, especially at night. Sleeping in such dry conditions made the stay even less pleasant. After this experience, it’s difficult to understand how this property maintains such a high rating. Based on what I encountered, the reviews do not accurately reflect the reality. I’m sharing this so other travelers can make a more informed decision.

I really wanted to love this place: chic, trendy, beautiful room in a gorgeous setting, but the noise of NY avenue absolutely was horrendous. I checked twice throughout the night to see if a window was open. I had read other reviews about the light and noise and came prepared with a mask and earplugs. While the light was find, the noise was incredibly bad. That said, I absolutely loved the hotel and want to give them another try but on the other side of the building. I will say the room was really amazing, bed was super comfortable and the details were very nice.
