The River Inn consistently receives positive reviews for its friendly and attentive staff, comfortable rooms, and convenient location near Georgetown and the National Mall. Guests particularly appreciate the hotel’s welcoming atmosphere and stunning Potomac River views, though some note a need for room refresh and outdated bathroom fixtures.
I recently stayed at The River Inn and had a very pleasant experience. The location was convenient, and the overall atmosphere felt comfortable and welcoming. My room was clean and well cared for, and I want to especially highlight the housekeeping team for doing a wonderful job. The valet staff and front desk were very guest-oriented, professional, and super helpful throughout my stay — their friendliness really made a difference. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend The River Inn to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-serviced place to stay.
Staff was so friendly, rooms were big and comfortable. Everything was clean too. They were super dog friendly, but the rooms don’t smell like dogs or anything like that. 10/10 will stay here again! Check in staff was so welcoming!
I thought this hotel was great and affordable. The rooms are spacious and the food in the little restaurant downstairs is decent but a little pricy. The building is slightly dated but that’s ok. It’s clean. Also close supermarkets and breakfast places are close. I would come back. Oh one note for staff. The fragrance machine in the lobby is awful. The strong cheap smell is overwhelming and just bad.
Because of work I’ve stayed in all the chain hotels, big and small names. The River Inn is now my favorite of them all. Much better price and many more amenities! I was surprised to get a full kitchen, standard size fridge, nice view, perfectly clean space and comfortable bed. Now, that’s half of the experience, the other half is the amazing staff that made me feel so welcomed. I met Ashlee Jean on my first day, and she was professional, kind, informative, welcoming and attentive. The next day I met Brandie, who was also so welcoming, helpful, sweet, and joyful. Also, shout out to Saif, who always assisted me with a smile and joy. On the last day of my stay, the staff was also amazing but I didn’t get their names. Oh, and the restaurant was excellent with plenty options.
This place was amazing! Ashley Jean and Brandy were so nice to me upon check-in and check out. The rooms were impeccably clean, hardwood floors gives such an elevated feeling. It was so well priced. The rooms had a very nice kitchenette and so much space for luggage. The location is great because it’s near lots of popular areas like Georgetown, foggy bottom, and George Washington university but on a residential street so it’s nice and quiet. It’s about a 5-7 minute walk to the closest metro. This is by far the best hotel I’ve stayed in over the past 5 years for the price. Note: I went in the winter and the heating system was on. It did get warm in the room at night, so pack light pajamas !
I had a wonderful stay at The River Inn. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and my top-floor suite was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully equipped with a handy kitchen. The view over the Potomac River was absolutely stunning — especially at sunset, which I got to enjoy every evening! The location was perfect, within walking distance of both Georgetown and the National Mall. The only things to note: earplugs can be helpful due to some airplane and traffic noise, and I did miss having a water kettle — as a European tea drinker, I’m not used to making tea in a microwave or coffee machine. Still, these are minor details compared to how pleasant and homely the whole experience was. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a calm, charming stay in D.C. with a touch of local warmth and spectacular views.
Stayed here this past weekend (11/07-11/09/25) and couldn't have been more pleased with the entire experience. From the start, the front desk staff were outstanding, supportive, and extremely communicative...as well as friendly and super cool. We got a suite, on the 7th floor, and the space was awesome - huge, comfortable, and tons of natural light. The views of the Potomac, Rosslyn, Georgetown, and the Kennedy Center were spectacular. The bed, linens, couch, chairs, and even the desk and kitchen nook table were all super comfy. Check-in and out were super easy, the trip to the Foggy Bottom metro is a 5 min walk, Georgetown is 10-20 depending on where you are going, Washing Harbor is about 15 if you tale the scenic route. We never ate at the on-site Italian joint and we didn't have a car, so can't comment on those. The whole experience was really nice and can't wait to come on back.
Adorable and comfortable gem of a place right next to GW University at Foggy Bottom. Large rooms, excellent location with GW University at 5min walk and Georgetown just across the bridge. Room rate is good value for money but be aware Breakfast is not included. Restaurant adjacent to the hotel serves excellent meals.
One of the best multi-day stays that I’ve had in the DC area. The staff was kind and caring and went out of their way to make my wife and I feel at home. In addition, they are very pet friendly and made my pup feel both welcome and loved. Very convenient location with just a short walk to the Metro and a very attractive and walkable neighborhood. This is now my go-to spot for trips to DC. I will be back.
Staff make an hotel, and the staff here were great. Professional and friendly. Rooms were larger than standard with a comfortable bed. I don't understand the nostalgic resistance to modern bathroom fittings - thermostatic shower valves, for example - but this is USA wide in my experience!
