Guests report mixed experiences at the Comfort Inn Downtown DC/Convention Center. While some praise the central location, friendly staff, and included breakfast, recurring concerns include room maintenance issues, inconvenient parking, and inconsistent service levels. Recent reviews highlight a decline in room quality and a lack of responsiveness from staff to guest needs.
If I could leave zero stars, I would, but unfortunately Google won’t let me go below one. This was genuinely one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. First, the room was advertised as being able to sleep four people. That was absolutely not our experience. There were only three of us, and the two beds were so small that we still could not sleep comfortably. We asked the staff for help, including whether they could provide a rollaway bed or some other solution, and they refused. Their solution was basically, “You can pay another $70 for another room.” I’m sorry, but I’m not paying for a second room because the first room didn’t match what we expected from the listing. The room itself also needed serious maintenance. The A/C unit was literally split open, the sink was broken, and overall the room just did not feel like it was being properly maintained. And the coffee… I don’t know what happened there. It tasted like someone mixed sewage water with lemonade and decided, “Yep, serve that to the guests.” Easily some of the worst hotel coffee I’ve ever had. Then there’s the parking. The parking lot is about 0.4 miles away from the hotel, which is extremely inconvenient, especially when you’re carrying luggage. Apparently checking into the hotel also comes with a complimentary cardio workout. I will give credit where it’s due: the morning front desk employee — I believe her name was Brandon, if I’m remembering correctly — was very kind, professional, and helpful. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the night staff. Our experience with the night crew was extremely unhelpful and dismissive when we were trying to find a solution to the sleeping situation. Between the tiny beds, broken equipment, inconvenient parking, lack of help at night, and coffee that deserves its own health investigation, I would not stay here again. Save your money and book somewhere else.
The hotel is blocks away from the Convention Center and walking distance to everything. The rooms are small but well appointed. The AC in our room was excellent! I had items delivered ahead of our arrival and were kept safe. Robin checked us in and she was the most amazing person. Above and beyond service, which is a rarity these days. If I still worked in the industry, I'd certainly recruit her to work for one of my properties! The hotel is very nice and needs some TLC, not quite the standard i'd expect from a Choice property, but definitely inviting to the traveller. Service was excellent all thru our stay.
We stayed for 2 nights. Location is great as it is walking distance to many sites like The White house, etc. Breakfast was pretty decent and staff was great. Our room 805 was not so great. Top floor very hot and had a burning smell which got extremely worst the next day. They were able to change our room to the first floor. No smell but still fairly warm in room. As well rooms are slightly outdated. But for 1 or 2 nights not bad.
The rooms were much nicer and updated than they appeared online which was quite a nice surprise. They also offer free breakfast. However, a fire alarm was going off in an adjacent room for over 6 hours. The staff insisted there was nothing that could be done after multiple attempts contacting the front desk until the morning maintenance came. However, after we asked for different room accommodations it was magically fixed immediately. How strange? It was good value for a vacation in DC. Just don't expect quality.
Nice staff, modest fees, included breakfast, central walkable location with plenty of dining options. While sufficient for my needs, my assigned room was small. They held my belongings after checking out for the day.Shower was warm fast and had a good flow, included bar soap, shampoo, and conditioner.Air conditioner worked and it was rather loud. While the loudness blocked out a lot of the city noise, there was an annoying higher pitch tone that I had to place a pillow over my ear to fall asleep. Breakfast was the same both days: yogurt, fresh fruit, cold cereal, muffins, baggles, toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, regular and cinnamon waffles, coffee, tea, juice. They also had cookies in the lobby in the afternoon. All day there was lemon infused ice water. I added a sweetener packet and it was lemon flavored enough to be lemonade. They have a partnership parking about 3 blocks south after the fire station that is about 50% off. I did not pay close enough attention to note the exact rates but I think it was $25 per day base, and $12 per day with voucher. Pretty good. You are allowed to park in front of the building for about 20 minutes to unload and check in. You will receive the parking voucher at check in. Be careful about leaving and returning to the parking lot: While the cap is $12 per day, each time you enter resets the clock. You will still save money with the voucher but pay more for many trips. Ask at the front desk for details. It is not a 5 star, but it is well worth your consideration. I will stay here again.
The hotel canceled my booking just 24 hours before check-in because of a credit card issue. Instead of contacting me to try a different card, they just silently canceled the reservation. Thanks for sending a notification at least, I guess. I absolutely do not recommend this place.
I originally booked a 3 night stay at this hotel for a bday trip with my sister. Sadly we had a late flight and checked in quite late. Oh how shocked we were when we reached our room.. first of all as soon as we opened the room door, we hit a large wardrobe that was blocking the door from opening fully! The room was VERY small and everything was setup so sloppily. The furniture looks worn and damaged. Our room is very busted for $200 a night !! Feels like a total rip off for a 2 star hotel. We could have gotten a 4 star hotel closer to the White House for the same price. We decided to cancel our reservation early and booked much nicer hotel DC Marriott close to the White House for 250/night. Better deal for sure
PROS: Price was good for DC. Staff was helpful. $10/day parking. CONS: Rooms smell like smoke. Parking is off-site in a garage about 3 blocks away. Garage is very frustrating because most of the parking spots are marked reserved. Attendants try to help but they don't speak english. Hotel is about 2 blocks from fire department and fire trucks are coming and going with sirens blaring all day and night. AC worked but barely. Stayed one night and had no hot water in the morning. Probably should have spent another $50/night to stay somewhere else.
location is okay-- the main street is good but the street on the side of the hotel is sketchy. I'll spare details but I did not feel safe there as a small woman staying there alone. Rarely anyone at the front desk. No working wifi-- it goes in and out every 30 seconds. Tons of light coming in from a huge gap under the door and a peep hole that did not close (that was creepy). Wasn't super clean, the floors (I was on the six floor) were... wavy? only way to describe it, like totally not flat. I wouldn't usually mention the floor, like who cares! But they were that uneven it was crazy. poor water pressure and little to no hot water. I don't recommend
I had the opportunity to stay here during a meeting this week and was very pleasant. The staff was awesome (very friendly and professional- especially the lady who checked me in and helped to get my items after the meeting). The rooms appear recently renovated, were very clean. The location is very convenient in NW DC. The rooms are a bit small (as is a renovated historic building) and parking is down the street from the hotel at 1 Franklin Square. Compared to other hotels that are very expensive, this is an economical option that you will not be disappointed.
