The JW Marriott Washington, DC consistently receives positive reviews for its prime location, close to major tourist attractions and the airport. Guests frequently praise the hotel's elegant lobby, attentive service, and comfortable rooms, particularly those with monument views. However, some reviews highlight recurring issues with dated rooms, inconsistent service, and operational shortcomings like slow check-in and WiFi problems.
This is a great location right in the middle of all the action. I think it's the closest high-end hotel to Reagan National Airport so getting to and from DCA is easy. Great housekeeping, front desk, and conference center staff. The restaurant and bar have solid and quality food options. Easy walking distance to major tourist locations and the Mall. My only complaint, which is endemic to all Marriott properties, is no Coke products. It's a Pepsi only facility.
JW Marriott Washington, DC A very solid choice for anyone visiting Washington, DC. The hotel’s central location is one of its biggest strengths — just steps away from the White House and within easy walking distance of the National Mall, monuments, and museums. It’s ideal for both sightseeing and business travel. The lobby is modern, elegant, and stylish, creating a great first impression and a comfortable space to meet or relax. Rooms are well maintained and quiet, offering a pleasant retreat after a busy day in the city. The staff deserves special recognition — consistently friendly, professional, and helpful, making guests feel welcome from check-in to departure. Service throughout the hotel is efficient and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, JW Marriott Washington, DC delivers a high standard of comfort, excellent service, and an unbeatable location. A reliable and refined option in the heart of the capital.
We had an amazing stay, and the front desk gentleman who checked us in was so nice! Our monument room was nicely appointed with a king bed. The shower was particularly good, with the handle on one side so you don’t get wet turning it on. The location was awesome- we saw a show at the National Theater and it was a very short walk. We did park our car in a nearby garage on the same block to avoid the very high valet charge. I paid around $70 for a three day parking instead of the 72 plus 18% tax per day. The location is amazing if you want to visit the Washington Monument or Smithsonians. The Capitol was about a 30 minute walk and most everything else was 15. We will absolutely be back!
As a Marriott Ambassador member, I expect the best. I've given Marriott my time and money, and having rude and incompetent reception was appalling. I booked a room for 1 night and requested a balcony. The checkin clerk stated for an additional $250 I could have a balcony room. WTH. Isnt an Ambassador given an uograde complementary? Then, I asked to look at my current room and he refused to hold my luggage, stated I had to bring it with me with the bellman. The room was small, dark and depressing. I left with not even an apology or solution. Bad bad bad customer service. Having stayed at 20 or so Marriotts in the area, this one topped it all for rude staff, unacommodating suggestions and terrible rooms. Shame on you JW.
Booking Marriott can be tough. When you book by brand, you expect certain things but know that it could be drastically different depending on the owner. This JW is fine. The lobby is nice, the rooms (if you get a monument view) have great views, the service is good. That said, the rooms are dated, relatively small, with small outdated bathrooms. They got the job done, just not at the JW standard. That said, the location is incredible. You are walkable to the mall, all the monuments, and some great restaurants. If you want an upscale feel for a cocktail, just go across to the Willard which is more of a premium feel.
Comfort, luxury, and calm all wrapped into one. The service was impeccable. Room was serene, and thoughtfully designed! Exactly what you’d want after a full day in the city. The energy of the hotel itself felt special and undeniably DC. I walked in expecting a great stay… and they delivered seamlessly.
Exceptional Hotel Experience – A Must-Stay in DC! ?Rating: ????? ?My stay at the JW Marriott Washington, DC was truly exceptional! From the moment I arrived, the service provided by the entire team—including the reception, the concierge/doormen, and the housekeeping staff—was outstanding. ?It is absolutely worth it to become an Elite Member; the perks and recognition elevate the entire experience. ?I also highly recommend the breakfast. It is the quintessential, perfect American breakfast, offering a wide variety of delicious options. ?A huge thank you to the entire hotel team for making my visit so memorable. The hotel is also perfectly located; you can easily walk everywhere and explore all the main tourist attractions nearby. ?I will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Washington, DC!
I’m surprised that this hotel is rated as well as it is. The conference I attended was well organized and the staff dedicated to that experience were great. The stay itself? Yikes. No hair dryer to be found, no fan in the bathroom, the walls are paper thin, my digital key took 5-6 swipes each time I wanted to enter my room (validated this with 3 different keys), the wifi is slower than molasses (and isn’t free unless you’re a marriott member!), the room service food is atrociously bad yet expensive, and the ordering website stopped working for two of the days I was here. The front desk staff treat you like you’re an inconvenience to them (at least the ones I interacted with), and the ‘market’ is disgustingly overpriced - I paid $6 for a cold water bottle. I would, however, like to give a special shout-out to the rest of the staff. The security and door folks in the lobby, the food and service staff at the conference, Fredy at the shoe shine, the housekeeping team - these are the people who made this stay enjoyable. Don’t ever lose them, they’re the only thing that made my stay a pleasant one. I know I may receive a generic response from the manager to my review - don’t bother. I recommend folks look for other places to stay in DC. There are plenty of other hotels that offer much nicer amenities and experiences for the same price.
We had great service here in the hotel, everyone is polite and gentle to take care of us. However, the room is very very noisy that you can hear people talking in the hallway. Also you can hear your neighbor if they talk loud in the room. Our TV has an issue and not fixed.
This is a nice hotel. You will be comfortable. They have all the basics you may need and a little more. I did not notice anything unique about it and the rooms are somewhat small. It’s clean but it feels a little outdated. Beautiful big lobby. They still have porters (doorman) which is not super common any more but it’s a nice touch. There is a gift shop on property that is also a coffee shop. They have an executive lounge on 14th floor which I didn’t get to visit because it works limited hours (I really wanted to though but somehow my availability was coinciding with their breaks). Rooms service is available. We ordered Pepsi and it came pretty quickly. Fast taxi service, helpful concierge service, helpful polite staff. My room was on the 8th floor had a view on the Washington monument so it was a plus. Fridge available in the room, good AC system. I find this hotel to be comfortable. It’s also not too far from Ronal Reagan’s airport (about 20 mins away).
