The Hyatt Place Washington DC/White House offers a convenient location near the White House and offers a comfortable stay for travelers. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room quality, service responsiveness, and amenity availability, along with some operational challenges regarding breakfast inclusions and maintenance.
I've been a Hyatt member for over 5 years and have never run into any serious issues with any of the Hyatt properties. I do think the rooms need closer inspection...bathroom door and shower door didn't close or latch properly (shower door not closing did lead to water puddle on floor), room was not set up towel/washcloth-wise for the number of guests in the room. None of this would stop me from coming back. The continental breakfast was exemplary with hot and fresh options to satisfy any palette. The valet and front desk staff are warm, welcoming and will address any needs with polite and efficient professionalism.
Excellent stay at an excellent location. Mrs. Tee at the front desk was so hospitable, welcoming and helpful. It was much appreciated after a long ride into DC. Upon arrival she warmly greeted us and checked us in with inarguably the best hotel service I’ve ever received. Definitely appreciated and can’t wait to experience a stay here again.
Great Experience at this Hotel... The Front Desk Staff was very attentive, hospitable and responsive to our needs. The Front Desk Staff ALWAYS greeted my Wife & I with a Smile & a Hello. They provided us with a early check in and the room was clean and spotless. It was Christmas time and around 27 degrees every day, so the Air Conditioning was irrelevant. Great Location as it is directly around the corner from the White House (Perfect Center View), 3 minutes from McPherson Square Metro Station, and a quick Bike Ride/Scooter ride to Georgetown! A Perfect Location!! I Very Much Enjoyed My Stay and Will Be Returning & Recommending to others visiting!! I can say the Bartender, Tanya, was a Pleasure To Be Around and Served every cocktail with a Smile & a Joke!! Super Hospitable, Very Kind, and Knows Her Stuff!! Drinks were Strong, Prices Weren't! If I weren't staying at the hotel, I would still go by the Hotel just for her service & company alone! 5? Hire!!! Only 1 Con: The only downside was the water pressure in the bathroom shower was Horribly Low and the Heat was at its highest got to about 75 degrees!
I stayed in DC for a night and as convenient as the location was, I was not too fond of this hotel. Rooms seem to be a bit outdated with a malfunctioning TV, visible dust bunnies throughout the walls, large open vent spaces which I thought was weird and our deadbolt lock did not work in our room, only being secured by the doors flip hinge. This was brought to the receptionists attention but hopefully is fixed for the next guests as this left me leaving uncomfortable/unsafe. Normally I'm not too picky with hotel stays but this was unpleasant. Good if you're looking for an in and out stay. I did feel safe in the neighborhood and staff was nice at least! *I have proof of deadbolt lock not working and willing to share for proper repair and safety of guests*
Hotel was overall very clean and bed was comfy. Mike McIntyre checked us into the hotel - He was very professional, kind, and informed us of all the things. He needs a raise!! Location was perfect walking distance from the White House, WWII Memorial, Washington Monument, many great restaurants, and the Warner theater. Definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a clean and budget friendly stay!
The front desk staff were uniformly unfriendly and unresponsive. They looked very tired. The room was clean, but the water pressure in the bathroom shower was horribly low. The water flowed so slowly that I lost body heat while showering. The room was extremely cold, the heater was broken, blowing only cold air, and the temperature control knob was broken. The window looked large, but it couldn't be opened, making ventilation impossible. One wall of the room was made entirely of glass, so you could see everything from across the room. You had to keep the shade down all day, so the view was a total bust.
The value matched perfectly for our short weekend stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and even ready before our expected check-in time. Check-out was quick and effortless, and the location was extremely convenient for all the sightseeing we wanted to do. The buffet breakfast wasn’t the best, but we’ll simply skip it next time. We’ll definitely be returning to Hyatt Place DC/White House on our next trip to DC!
Can't beat the location, but staff was so unfriendly throughout my stay. My room's heater malfunctioned and was giving out a terrible burning smell and they just told me it was normal and to turn off the heat on a night when it was 40F outside. Housekeeping also didn't clean my room very thoroughly as they left a used washcloth on the floor of my tub for two days. Definitely avoid this Hyatt, if you can, the service at other DC locations is much better.
Horrible hotel that doesn’t care about the basics. No warning on the neighbor property that plays loud music until midnight, partially notable for half of the rooms that shake from the base. Thermostats don’t work properly and amenities are dire. Edy at the front desk was particularly unhelpful, a good mix of ‘I don’t give a f about you’ and ‘I’d rather you not be here’, but he has likely been trained by others. Stay away if you want a quality hotel in DC, there are many other options.
The first room that they put us in had several problems, such as lukewarm water in the shower, A/C that wouldn’t go below 72 degrees even when set to 67, shower doors that were difficult to move, and tons of noise from K Street. But we brought this to the attention of the front desk the next morning and they moved us to a room at the back of the hotel which had none of these problems. So when you book here you may want to ask for rooms ending in 00 to 04 (e.g. 400-404) which I think are all in the rear of the hotel (call the hotel and verify). Don’t get a room facing K Street. And be sure to check the hot water in the shower, the A/C, the window shade, and anything else that’s important to you before you settle in. This is a nice hotel for a decent price in a great location, but they clearly need to do more regular maintenance checks and standardize things like the maximum temp coming out of the shower. It feels like they hired a cut rate company whenever it was renovated in the past several years, because the tile in the shower is super crooked and uneven and looks like it was installed by a kindergartner.
