The Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square consistently receives positive feedback for its excellent location, allowing guests easy access to major attractions. While praised for its luxurious ambiance, attentive service, and comfortable rooms, recurring concerns include high parking fees, ‘meh’ service compared to other Sofitel properties, and issues with room amenities like working refrigerators and comfortable beds.

Pros: -Excellent Location: Perfectly situated within walking distance to everything you want to see (the White House, museums, etc.). Highly walkable area. -Room Comforts: The AC cools the room efficiently, and the shower has great water pressure. -Surprisingly Quiet: Given the busy location, the room was remarkably well-insulated from street and traffic noise. Cons: -Annoying AC Noise: Even though it cools well, the AC unit (in our room at least) emitted a very irritating, high-pitched whistling sound every time it kicked on. -Parking Pricing & Junk Fees: Parking is an exorbitant $70/night plus tax (another $12). They also tack on a ridiculous "Urban Experience Fee." What exactly is the urban experience here? The psychotic homeless individuals right outside the hotel? - Subpar Service & Billing Errors: Service was incredibly "meh" compared to other Sofitel properties I’ve stayed at. I sent messages to the staff during my stay that went completely ignored. Upon checkout, I had to audit my bill to remove a bunch of tick-tack extra charges, including them failing to waive the breakfast charges that were supposed to be complimentary for my specific stay. - Inflexible Room Service: I tried to order a simple scoop of gelato late at night, and they refused because it wasn't specifically on the late-night menu. You don't need to charter a helicopter to Italy to just open a fridge and scoop some pre-made ice cream. - Accessibility Issue: The toilet uses a stiff push-button flush that would be very difficult for anyone dealing with arthritis.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a night to celebrate our anniversary. When I made the booking, I indicated that it was our anniversary. I booked the hotel using chase points, and chose the property because it’s supposed to be a 5 star luxury hotel. When we arrived, we weren’t greeted at the door and no one offered to help with our bags. The front desk man was very nice and when he asked if we were there for a special occasion, I again said that it was our anniversary. I was certainly not expecting anything, but since I could note it on my reservation and the front desk man asked, so I would maybe expect something small. We made our way up to our room and we were in a 3rd floor room. I wouldn’t have expected a 5 star hotels to have “bad rooms,” but this was a bad room. No natural one, one small window face to face with another building, stains on the decorative pillows on the bed, some stains on the wall, I definitely would have been grumpy if I didn’t use points for the room. Shortly after arriving, I called the front desk to ask if wine glasses could be brought up. I had to call again a half hour later and after 45 minutes, they were brought to the room. The bed was very comfortable, the bed linens were nice, but the pillows were down feather pillows which like you might as well not even have a pillow. The bathroom was very spacious with great water pressure and hot water, but the shower soap needed to be refilled along with the body lotion. We had a reservation at Opaline at 7:30 and made our way down at 7:20. We waited for the hostess for about 10 minutes and while we were waiting, another hotel patron told us we shouldn’t eat there because it wasn’t very good and the service was bad which was kind of funny. We went about our evening and checked out the following day at around 11. No one thanked us for staying, offered to make sure we had transportation, etc. So while not terrible, if you are looking for a true 5 Star hospitality experience, this is not it.

I had a wonderful experience visiting the Sofitel. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, exceptionally clean, and has a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. The Presidential Suite was stunning and truly impressive. Every detail reflected elegance and comfort. A special thank you to Dee Dee for providing outstanding customer service. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the hotel and its accommodations, answered every question with patience, and made the experience memorable. Her passion for hospitality really shines through. The food and drinks were also excellent and beautifully presented. Overall, I was very impressed with the level of service, cleanliness, and attention to detail throughout the hotel. I would highly recommend Sofitel to anyone looking for a first-class experience.

The employees are an 11 out of 10. They are amazing ambassadors for the brand. The Opaline food was consistently good and very fairly priced for the quality and quantity. The room was generously sized, clean, and in good shape. It looks like it has been recently updated. Three things kept it from being a 10. There is a “smart” cooler in the room that is plugged in, but not working. I’m guessing they tried it and abandoned it. But they didn’t replace it with a working mini-refrigerator. Thankfully, they brought one up upon request, but the first two nights were confusing and we had to throw away food. Second, and the main reason it’s an 8, the bed is absolutely horrible! We had a king bed and both sides where you and someone else would sleep were craters! We are smallish people, both under 5’6” and less than 150 lbs each, and both sides had a 4”-5” sag from the middle high points (between two people) and edge of the bed. The slopes were so steep, it was difficult to turn over and when you managed it, you’d roll back to the low spot. You also ended up sleeping in a moderately inclined position, again, due to the sag. Needless to say, the entire reason you need a hotel is to SLEEP. Every morning greeted us with sore backs and not enough sleep. Lastly, the fitness center equipment is an afterthought. Seems like it’s only there because they had to check a box. Additionally, one of the main multiuse stations was out of service the whole time we were there (eight days). A few people doing cardio will be fine, but if you are doing resistance (weight) work, no more than one person can efficiently use the facility at any given time. There were two of us and it made things uncomfortable and inefficient. The machines don’t adjust very well and the out of service piece made things worse. All they have to do to make themselves an easy 10 is to replace the bed and have a working refrigerator in the room. In the grand scheme of things, both relatively simple. Addressing the fitness center would be nice, but if you don’t use it, it won’t impact you at all. Unfortunately, you’ll never know the condition of the bed until you are in the room. It’s not like the front desk is going to be able to tell you if it sags or not.

Stayed at Sofitel for a work assignment for two weeks. Location fantastic, staff very friendly and helpful. Room was quite comfortable, AC was sometimes a little questionable at night. Main things that need addressing are availability of coffee in the morning and refreshing citrus water combinations in afternoon. For working individuals, 7am coffee is far too late, it should be available much earlier. For the citrus water in the afternoons, maybe make it available all day! It’s delicious!

The sofitel a nice location, but overall we were not impressed, considering this was advertised to us as a five star hotel. The bar was only open from 4 o’clock to 10 PM. We wanted to use our American Express dining credit and didn’t have a chance to because of the inconvenient hours of the bar. The staff was very friendly and provided us water bottles, which is always appreciated, but the room was small and didn’t offer anything special

Our stay at Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square stood out mainly thanks to its excellent location — many of Washington’s most iconic landmarks are within walking distance, which made exploring the city incredibly convenient. The hotel itself felt elegant and peaceful, and everything was kept exceptionally clean throughout our stay. Our room was always perfectly serviced and well maintained, which we truly appreciated after long days spent exploring the city. Breakfast was excellent — our favorite dishes were definitely the Eggs Benedict and the Avocado Toast. Another highlight is the hotel’s French restaurant Opaline, which deserves a separate review of its own. During the day, guests can also enjoy complimentary coffee, teas, and lemonade in the lobby and small library area, which we found to be a very thoughtful touch. The hotel also features a well-equipped fitness center, although we did miss having a sauna available. Of course, no stay is ever completely perfect. We were slightly surprised that the minibar was entirely empty, with only a QR code linking to the restaurant menu. Toiletries and tea selections were also not consistently replenished during our stay, and we personally missed having a bidet in the bathroom. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the service. A special thank you goes to Jahki at the reception, who was exceptionally friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout our entire stay. Overall, it is a beautiful and very well-located hotel in the heart of Washington DC — ideal for travelers looking for comfort, walkability, and a refined atmosphere. More on @larmarluxury.

Great location and service. They let us check in to the room super early because of our All Accor membership, which was a wonderful surprise. Nice interior design and very comfortable bathroom. The coffee machine in the room was good plus too. Our room did have a fridge but no microwave, so it may be a good idea to request ahead if you need any of them.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel during our DC trip. The room was clean, comfortable, and very quiet. The service was consistently great throughout our stay, with small touches that were appreciated like complimentary water bottles and a coffee/tea service in the morning. The restaurant in the hotel was great, we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. The location is super convenient, walking distance from the mall, museums, and monuments. Overall I would highly recommend the Sofitel for DC travels!

Good location, close to major attractions and great restaurants. Check-in was ok, although it took more than 15 minutes to valet my car, when there did not appear to be any other cars. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Was disappointed in the quality of the food from room service, which was not inexpensive. Also, it appears that someone got access to my room number and last name, and was able to charge $300 to my room from the onsite restaurant - fortunately, the staff called me to verify the charge the next morning and took care to remove it from my bill.
