This Holiday Inn Express & Suites in NoMA, Washington D.C., receives mixed reviews, with cleanliness and service being key concerns. Recent stays have highlighted inconsistent upkeep and a lack of hospitality, although some guests appreciated the Filipino maintenance staff and breakfast offerings. The hotel’s operation on a no-cash policy is a noteworthy detail for potential guests.
As a Platinum Wyndham Rewards member who typically books with points, I had high expectations for my stay. My state-hopping journey across the U.S. began in Washington, D.C., but unfortunately, this experience did not meet the standards I’ve come to expect from Wyndham. Upon arrival, I was disappointed by the lack of a warm welcome. As someone with a background in hospitality, I understand how important it is to engage with guests, provide clear check-in instructions, and make them feel at ease. However, the front desk service was minimal, and I was left standing without much guidance or interaction. I didn’t feel the usual level of hospitality I’ve come to expect. The room itself also fell short of expectations. It didn’t appear to have been thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. I found a piece of plastic stuck to the floor, and the toilet paper hadn’t been replaced, just a small amount left from the previous guest, with an extra roll provided. These small details can have a big impact on the guest experience. To make matters worse, the view from the room was less than ideal, with ongoing construction happening right behind the building. On a positive note, the Filipino maintenance staff member was very accommodating, which I appreciated. Breakfast was also a pleasant surprise and quite good. One important note for future guests: the hotel operates on a no-cash policy for transactions, including sundry items, so be prepared to use a credit card. While I was only looking for a one-night stay, and it wasn’t a complete deal-breaker, I had hoped for a higher standard of cleanliness and service. Given Wyndham’s reputation, I believe more attention to detail and hospitality is needed. I hope these issues are addressed so future guests can have a better experience.
I had my apprehensions about this place after reading the reviews. I had the two queen bedroom suite. I arrived and the location was quiet none of the folks hanging around out front i read about. The front desk was friendly and I had already completed online check from the email link I received so it was quick and smooth check in. Elevator is a tad bit small and only one is working. Also elevator may need some work seems bit old and maybe on last legs. My room was awesome and great size. Was nice and clean. Even had pretty artsy shape made on the toilet paper. Had plenty of towels. The bed was wonderful. The desk was most helpful at helping get back in after a night out stumbling back from celebrating me and my cousins birthday. Parking was plenty, cheap, and there’s cameras all around so I didn’t have to worry about my car. Overall my stay was wonderful.
Rooms are spacious. Room service wasn't good as the housekeeping did not provide the room service completely e.g. no toilet paper, trash nit cleaned in the bathroom, no coffee cups, no coffee pods left, no bathroom amenities refilled. The toilet clogged but I was able to change room. Front desk staff members are helpful. The breakfast is same each day. Eggs, bagels, sausage, muffin, bread, waffle. You won't be able to eat it after 2 days. Juice cups are so small that one will keep spilling the juice under the juice machine. Extremely poor quality cereal and Apple juice. Definitely needs an upgrade and additional variety of breakfast items. One of the two elevator don't work. So, always a long wait.
I was made to feel completely unwelcome by the front desk staff, who were unprofessional and impolite. I can see I’m not the only guest who has noticed this, which says a lot about how poorly this place is managed. As a business owner myself, I cannot understand how anyone would hire staff who make paying guests feel this way. For expensive hotel, this is a huge red flag. I will never be back!! I am hoping that someone from the management team will see this and react properly.
When you’re running a hotel, the front desk staff should set a professional and welcoming first impression. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. The person at the front desk was extremely rude and completely unhelpful when issues came up. For $200 a night, this is absolutely unacceptable. I will never return, and for the safety and reputation of this business, management should seriously reconsider who they hire to represent them.
