The Canal House of Georgetown offers a stylish and convenient stay in the heart of Georgetown, praised for its modern design, friendly staff, and excellent location. Recent reviews highlight exceptional service, a comfortable atmosphere, and a positive experience overall, particularly within the bar and lobby areas.
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The staff was friendly, professional, and always willing to help. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The location was convenient and made it easy to visit the main attractions in Washington, D.C. The overall atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming. Thank you to the entire team for the excellent service. I would gladly stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to others.
MJ makes the best cocktails. His old-fashioned are off the chart. He is so cute nice has the best smile ever I love this guy. He has the best. This is the best hotel. I love everything about the rooms. The coffee the service The location is amazing. What a great place to stay. I can’t wait to come back.
Absolutely perfect! The hotel is in a great location right next to the heart of Georgetown. The rooms are new, modern, and well priced. The staff is what truly makes this place special though. Everyone is extremely welcoming and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful. MJ at the bar deserves a special shoutout as well!
A stylish and more affordable stay in Georgetown. I was upgraded to a terrace room with a lovely view and seating area. Room was clean and stylish with luxurious thick curtains that kept out the light, and a nice bathroom. Only thing that would have made the room better is a Nespresso rather than a Keurig to match the general vibe of the hotel. However, the location (a few blocks off M street) keeps it quiet but still close to great cafes, restaurants and shops. Lastly, thank you to Tai, Vincent and Maria for your kind understanding and help with my reservation. Service in general was warm but refined, so much better than what you get at some other hotels at the same price point in DC.
I am traveling a lot to US from Europe and this is by far the best hotel I have ever been too. Really cozy and relaxing atmosphere, phenomenal service, rooms are super clean, breakfast is spot on as well. Location wise it’s also very convenient. Highly recommend. I have had truly wonderful time here.
This is a wonderful hotel. Great proximity for visiting kids at Georgetown. It is close to easy M street shopping and is a great lobby in which to work remotely. The staff is great. Very attentive but also hands off when working in common space. MJ is amazing. Best bartender in DC - try the sangria! Amazing.
I stayed at Canal House for three days during a snowstorm and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is cozy and elegant, with a lovely restaurant and charming lobby. My room was very clean and comfortable, and I enjoyed the street view and beautiful snow. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and professional, and the front desk ladies were pretty and welcoming. Zach, the bartender, was great and kept guests entertained while we were stuck inside because of the storm. Despite the weather, the entire staff worked hard to make sure everyone was comfortable. The customer service was excellent, and I would definitely stay at Canal House again.
Stayed here in a king room and overall it was a solid experience. The room itself felt a bit tight, but they really made smart use of the space with thoughtful layout and storage, which lines up with what a lot of other guests mention. Everything felt clean, modern, and intentional rather than cramped. The location is a big plus, tucked into Georgetown with easy access to the canal, shops, and restaurants, but still quieter than the main streets. Staff were friendly and professional, and the hotel has more of a boutique, understated feel than a typical chain. If you value location, design, and efficiency over a large room, this place works well.
I rarely (never) write reviews online but there is so much to like about this hotel. The rooms are clean and neatly appointed. The location is fantastic—comfortably removed just off the main drag in Georgetown. But the staff really were great and made the experience exceptional. In particular, Laura, who works the bar, was amazing. She was personable and charming and made it feel like you were back home at your local haunt. This is where I will stay from now on whenever visiting the area.
This was not a great stay. We usually stay at the Ritz or Westin close by but this was recently acquired by Marriott so we decided to give it a try. The hotel has a wonderful location in Georgetown with easy access to all of its best attractions. The property itself is lovely, beautifully decorated and staffed with polite and courteous attendants. That being said, I have spent hundreds of nights in hotel rooms and this was by far one of the smallest rooms that I have ever booked. It was microscopic. Having to constantly crawl over beds to get from one point to another in such a cramped space made me feel like I was living in a hostel. I understand this can’t be avoided in some cities, but it was far too cramped for us with our toddler. I don’t hold this against them and realize it could be a better fit for others. My disappointment came with the issue of a broken toilet. Our toilet ran extremely loudly throughout our entire four night stay. The engineers left at 10:30 so we were SOL every night. This issue was further worsened by the size of the room, the sound blasted into our child’s face because the only space the crib fit was by the bathroom door and was loud enough to fill the entire room so that no one got a good night's rest during our stay. It was like a deafening waterfall, except somehow not soothing in the slightest. The most upsetting part of this is that the issue was so severe and constant that we find it difficult to believe the hotel was not aware of this before we were placed in a room that should never have been booked in the first place. The most insulting part of this was that while we made the hotel aware of our experience they offered us no gesture to compensate. I worked in a luxury hotel for years when I was a kid, this is just not how you do things. I have never stayed at a hotel of this "quality" with rates this high, where my stay was this badly compromised and received nothing but a "we're sorry to hear that". We are customers that paid for a service, not house guests. It is not about the money, it is about the lack of accountability. I am usually hesitant to delve out low reviews. But this business is a hotel, where people come to sleep. We came and slept terribly and nothing was done about it. For these reasons, while it was a truly lovely spot with truly lovely employees, we definitely will never be returning. (Also, I have to say this... upgrade your toilet paper!! It is just disgraceful!!!)
