The Normandy Hotel receives generally positive reviews, particularly citing excellent customer service, a charming atmosphere, and a convenient location. However, recent feedback highlights significant issues with internet connectivity and temperature control, alongside some concerns regarding cleanliness and noise levels.
Love the hotel and the room. Super nice and relaxing. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for an easy stay to and a complete upper class vibe to stay here. Highly recommend!
We booked a room and were very surprised because the hotel is a 3-star hotel but the hotel was very clean, the room was for 2 adults and 2 children, the service was great and pleasant, in the morning we had breakfast which included a great selection! Thank you very much for your service, next time we would like to come back to you??
Very good hotel for it's price. Rooms are clean enough for an US hotel. Nice staff, nice lobby with coffee and tea. Rooms has iron and hair dryer, TV and working desk.
The room is hot, the heat is always running.you have to keep the window open a crack for relief. With the window open at night the sounds of cars and people partying is loud and hard to sleep so then you shut your window and it is now too hot. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The location is a couple of blocks fromy conference so that is helpful.
We visited The Normandy as part of a school trip and the experience was incredible! The building and rooms are charming, the location is ideal (close to so many great restaurants), and the standout part of our stay was the service. Staff worked to remember our names, paid careful attention to detail and saw needs ahead of time, and were truly the most attentive and caring people we encountered on our trip.
I loved my experience at this boutique hotel! I needed to work in DuPont circle area , right where I needed to be. Very safe, the lovely lady who greeted me and checked me in so fast and so kind! Thanks Marwa !! Also the wine and cheese + crackers was a nice touch. Stay away from chains and support kind locals. This hotel is top notch.
Stayed here 12-11-25 one night. Decent little nicely situated hotel if visiting the DC zoo. Rooms are nice and beds are super comfortable. Gets hot at night, could only turn temperature down to 65 no lower, and actual room temperature was 70. Sewer gas emanates from the bathroom toilet in room 305 where I was, very pungent bad smell needs plumbing addressed probably. Breakfast was mid.
The only thing that saves this review is the staff. The staff were VERY helpful and friendly throughout the ordeal I'm going to mention below: When my boyfriend and I checked in, there were no issues with our room. It was small, sure, and the curtain could not be drawn up for better lighting but we were only planning on staying for a night for our anniversary. We left our stuff there and then went out for dinner. When we got back, there was a HORRENDOUS odor coming from the bathroom, and it kept getting worse. We could only stay in there for another 10 minutes or so before alerting the front desk. She promptly switched our room to another king size due to maintenance having left for the night. Now, the second room was much nicer. It had a more spacious and nicer bathroom and balcony doors (no balcony and only one door opened with difficulty). But then we discovered the thermostat did not work. We went in December- it's freezing. We alerted the front desk again (bless her), she came up in minutes and got the heat to turn on. Unfortunately...we couldn't get it to turn off during the night. It got well into the 80's and being as tired as we were after exploring DC, we just cracked the balcony door open and dealt with it instead of calling the front desk up (again!). ADDITIONALLY, there were missing pieces of carpet that had exposed nails. As a place that boasts being pet friendly and for anyone who would bring kids, that's not safe. However, those spots were in the corners and didn't affect our experience.
I specifically booked an 11-night stay with high-speed internet, which I required for international calls and work meetings. While the hotel itself was pleasant for a 3-star property and the front desk staff were friendly, the internet speed was on average 20Mbps on any of my devices (MacBook, iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S25), far below what can reasonably be considered “high-speed.” Despite the staff relocating me to another room, the issue remained unresolved. After two days, I raised the matter with the manager and requested reasonable compensation, as the service I paid for was not provided. The manager told me that hotel cannot give any compensation and insisted that it was a “personal issue” since no other guests had complained. So, directed me to contact the hotel’s internet provider. I spent 33 minutes on the phone with the provider without resolution, and even the manager confirmed on his own device that the connection was slow. I was given another wifi to connect, but the speed remained slow. I gave up and had to spend a lot to buy add-on data (Xfinity hotspot 1 week pass was also too slow at this location). I did everything possible as a guest to resolve a problem that may have gone unreported by others simply because they had shorter stays or did not rely on high-speed internet. Regardless of how many guests were affected, the hotel failed to provide the service that was advertised and essential for my stay, nor did it offer any form of compensation for this issue that I spoke and emailed about. Forget about compensation at this point. I mostly upset that this was considered “personal issue” and I took FAR MORE STEPS as a guest to solve this than the staffs did or cared for. Also, please do not advertise high-speed internet if it isn’t provided because I would have chose to stay somewhere else and not ruin my online meetings Besides horrendous internet issue, the lobby, room, and bathroom were actually nice. Thermostat did not work, but it was alright because the weather was nice during my stay
Not what I expected from online. It’s an antique building, which I anticipated to still be charming but was a bit disappointing. The rooms are a bit tight, but the bathroom was really nice. Most unfortunately, the AC in my room did not work 3/4 of the days I stayed. 76 degrees inside… the elevator also temporarily broke down on my first night (it also had a weird smell every time I stepped in it). The staff were for the most part very friendly and kind, though. The location is right next to a bus stop but about 12 minute walk from a metro station. Not a lot of stores corners or food immediately near by– about a 10 min walk
