PlaceMakr Dupont Circle receives mixed reviews, with a significant number highlighting cleanliness concerns and issues with responsiveness and staff availability. While some guests praise the location, convenient amenities like a kitchen and washer/dryer, and friendly staff, others experienced problems with room condition, inconsistent service, and difficulty resolving issues. Recent reviews suggest improvements in amenities and staff attentiveness.
I wasn’t really thrilled with my accommodations. My room was very run down and dingy, falling apart. I wasn’t confident the space was clean. The mattress was uncomfortable and dirty and didn’t have much of protection from anything. The furniture was dirty and stained. The floor was literally coming apart. The washing machine in the room didn’t work and kept giving an error message. The only positive was the location.
I am sharing this experience to warn others, as what happened to me and my friend at this hotel was completely unacceptable and deeply distressing. We checked in around 9:00 PM. At approximately 10:00 PM, my friend went out to eat while I stayed in the room to sleep. Before leaving, she spoke with the receptionist for around 10 minutes asking for local recommendations, and was given a passcode to re-enter the hotel later that night. When she returned around 1:00 AM, the passcode she had been given did not work. Despite the fact that the receptionist was present and had spoken with her earlier that evening, the staff refused to let her in. The same receptionist that was there when my friend was going out and talking with her, even told the other receptionist that she had “never seen her before,” which was simply untrue. They refused to even talk to her, and my friend was left standing outside in the cold for nearly 30 minutes, trying to convince them that she was a registered guest. Eventually, she was allowed inside and asked to speak to a manager to complain about the situation. What happened next was even more shocking. The receptionist told the manager that she did not want us to stay at the hotel. Instead of trying to understand the situation, and realising that in fact they were totally in the wrong, the manager then just threatened my friend, saying we had to leave immediately or the police would be called - all of this while I was asleep in the room and completely unaware. At around 1:30 AM, my friend came into the room in tears and told me we were being forced to leave. As we were packing, there was a knock at the door. Five police officers arrived, with multiple police cars and sirens, and escorted us out of the hotel in the middle of the night. The police informed us that because the property was privately owned, the hotel could evict us without providing a reason. We were left shocked, humiliated, and forced to leave with no alternative accommodation, in the middle of the night, despite having done absolutely nothing wrong. The hotel later reimbursed our stay, but this does not begin to compensate for the fear, stress, humiliation, and danger of being thrown out at 1:30 AM after police were called on us for no valid reason. This was the worst hotel experience of my life, and I strongly advise others to think very carefully before staying here.
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights, and that's the most comfortable semi-extended stay you can get. It feels like an apartment with all the perks of a hotel service. Tons of storage in your room. You can cook here. You have your own dishwasher and a clothes washer! My favorite part was how absolutely quiet the fridge and AC were. I rarely can sleep without earplugs in a hotel, and here i did. Definitely would recommend and would stay here again. Clean, comfortable, modern, quiet, and you have everything you might need.
Tracy and Jaymara made me feel welcome and at home and handled my unexpected emergencies promptly and professionally. I cannot thank them enough for making me feel safe. I know that the staff here will make your stay. Rooms are great!
I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. It’s an older, character-filled building in a very safe location. Our room (M3101) was incredible super spacious with high ceilings, a great window with a beautiful view of Dupont Circle. It was basically a full suite, even equipped with a washing machine. Everything was spotless and very well maintained.? Just the elevator was a bit unusual, but honestly that made the experience even more interesting and fun for us.? The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived.?The reception team and everyone we interacted with went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Overall, one of the nicest hotel stays I’ve had. Highly recommend!???
Perfect place for an extended stay in DC! Great location close to restaurants, pharmacy, grocery store, coffee shops, etc. Secure, clean rooms with well-equipped kitchen, plenty of space and excess storage. Steps away from Metro stop. Friendly staff who were helpful in every way. Quiet except for the occasional siren. Very reasonable pricing. Would definitely recommend!
I’ll start by saying that the location is amazing: right across the street from DuPont Circle and walking distance to a lot of sightseeing. And the building itself is nice although we didn’t check it out much. Everything else is a rip-off. We booked through Airbnb which showed pictures of a nice and bright room, but when we checked in we were put in a “C” room which means courtyard, aka basement. The rooms are done in the stereotypical HGTV way with the LVP floors, cheap cabinets, and clunky furniture. Our windows overlooked brick walls and garbage thrown down from the sidewalk above. The service is nearly non-existent, which is interesting because there are signs in the room saying to call/email/text anytime for help. At one point we needed more laundry detergent pods, so I texted and never got a reply. (The rooms don’t have phones.) So I called the number on the fridge and it was a non-working number. I found another number on Google and called that one, and the person at the front desk told me to come to the front desk get what I needed. Not the world’s biggest problem, but for a $1000+ stay you’d think housekeeping could just drop items at the room? The front desk was empty half the time and when someone was at it, their service was hit or miss. We were always able to walk right into the building at any time, but at one point when I was waiting in the lobby for food at night, a guest was trying to get in and couldn’t. I let the woman at the front desk know and she didn’t get up from the desk and yelled at the woman to punch in her code to open the door, which the woman had difficulty figuring out how to do. The woman at the desk then explained to me that it’s for security purposes that she can’t let people in, as if I was trying to call her out on not doing her job. Overall, I wish we would’ve requested a better room although I think it would’ve been the same as the one we had, just a better view.
Had a weekend in DC for a conference and stayed at the DuPont Circle location. Every aspect of the experience was perfect. Cleanliness, safety, pleasant staff, smooth check in and check out, beautiful amenities, gorgeous building! Highly recommend it. Will definitely return!
This is the loveliest one bedroom apartment we have rented on Airbnb. It’s in an historic building, built in 1903. Gorgeous finishes. Our unit had the huge balcony facing the park. The amenities were perfect. We will stay here whenever we need a place in DC. And the location on DuPont Circle has it all.
I stayed here about 14-16 months ago and loved it mostly also because The manager back then Rebeca was the best. Took care of us, very professional and hardworker. The hotel was in the process of remodeling and it was ok because every hotel needs it. I mentioned Rebeca I will come back to Dupont every time I come to DC so I was excited to come back to the remodeled rooms and yes they are lovely, they did needed it but new management was not what I expected. I never saw them nor were never available apart from Rebeca that was always around and always greeting her guest. There is no one after certain hour which feels unsafe, and can never reach anyone via the Tx, they almost never reply back. So disappointing.
